Re: [How-To] Manual Rooting of LS670ZVH/ZVJ (+ links to root ZVD/

Long time flasher, first time poster here.
I seem to have... no recovery? Here's my story.
I started out running HydroROM Beta 2 w/ the latest GingerKernel and Xionia recovery. I then started in the automated zvj update / root thread, and got through step A (Install ZVJ recovery / reboot recovery)
The first time I ran it it had a screen full of "out of memory" errors, so I reran step A this time successfully (or so it claimed).
After the script restarted my phone into recovery it stopped at the LG logo. I unplugged USB and removed battery and tried to go into recovery manually, and got a blank screen. Since then I've tried installing both zvj and zvh recovery through the method posted in this thread, and the older method using adb posted in the Revert to Stock thread, both with no results. If I use "reboot recovery" through adb, it goes straight into HydroROM (which mercifully still works with no problems). Same results if I use the power controls in HydroROM to restart into recovery.

I'm sorry if this has been solved already, I wasn't able to find anything on it, but I could have missed it amongst the 65 pages of reading and unrelated search results :(

So the rooting method for zvj is the same as zvh? All i have to do is flash zvj update zip instead, right?

It is the same as the "initial ZVH" rooting method.

Later on we were able to directly root ZVH without reverting. That is what is in the Auto Root sticky.

Also I automated the manual procedure in this thread

http://forums.androidcentral.com/lg...9-how-automated-rooting-ls670zvd-zvh-zvj.html

The automated method is less typing and less prone to user errors, but both will work.

Re: [How-To] Manual Rooting of LS670ZVH/ZVJ (+ links to root ZVD/

sorry for being such a noob, but currently have difficulty finding a root upgrade for ZVJ. I currently have ZVD.

I downgraded to ZVD, and I used Gingerbreak 1.20 to root. It works great, with the exception that I can't find a recovery for ZVD, and everytime I try to install a Custom ROM, it hangs on the black screen "after the LG". Its kinda pissing me off....How to do this??

Could you follow the directions in this thread:

http://forums.androidcentral.com/lg...9-how-automated-rooting-ls670zvd-zvh-zvj.html

Before you start, choose Option H in the main menu to enable scroll buffer.

Then choose Option B to install root for ZVJ.

Please pay special attention to step A. If there is anything that remotely looks like an error, please cut/paste the log so we can see what is going wrong.

Make sure it is in the top-level directory of the sdcard.

Make sure Step #3 install-vh.sh was successfully completed (and thus you are running stock recovery)

Sometimes people have multiple update.zip files on their sdcard and they confused which one is which. Compare the file sizes for the update.zip to make sure it is the right one.

It shouldn't make a difference because it is a FAT32 filesystem, but try renaming Update.zip to be update.zip (lowercase U)

I checked and it still didnt work.
it says this.
Android system recovery <3e>
I'll go to apply sdcard:update.zip
But it will say:
Finding update package...
opening undate package...
Verifying update package...
E:failed to open /sdcard/update.zip (no such file or directory)
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted.
Not sure what i did wrong. My phone is ZVD right now, and i put the file (as update.zip) in where my download, data,LOST.DIR, DCIM is. Am i suppose to put it somewhere elas? As far as i can tell i got the install-vh.sh right. :(

How did you put the update.zip file on your /sdcard?

If you did it in windows drag and drop, make sure it doesn't have a funky name like update.zip.zip which might show up as update.zip on windows due to file extension hiding.

Actually boot into Android, start an adb shell from command line on windows, then type
ls -l /sdcard

post the output (you can remove whatever you don't want to show, I only care about files named update.*)

Re: [How-To] Manual Rooting of LS670ZVH/ZVJ (+ links to root ZVD/

This is probably obvious, but since this method was originally intended as a ZVH root, is there a ZVJ recovery that should be used in step 3 instead of the ZVH recovery? I don't remember needing to flash anything when I rooted ZVD, and "reboot to recovery" seems like something slightly beyond my beginner's grasp of this stuff. (i.e. more ways for me to screw it up.)

And just to confirm -- Has anyone tried this using terminal with a Mac? No difference?

Thanks in advance...

Recovery doesnt matter, so ZVH stock recovery is fine. You will want to replace with xionia anyways to run custom roms. Not really sure on the mac issue though.

It shouldn't matter what os your running, you just won't be able to run the executable file seeing how thats for Windows. so you'll have to manually copy (or adb push) the folder '000zvhroot' (i think?) from the 'Copy2SD' folder. Just make sure you put on the root of your sdcard (not in any folders). Do the same for the update.zip files (Make sure its update.zip not update.zip.zip). You'll probably need to swap them, first one is 90+ mb the second 20+ mb.

**CORRECTION**

I think you can run the 'install' you'll need to put "./" (or something like that) in front.

Actually, I'd like to run the stock rom for now. Looks like the automatic rooting method does use the ZVJ recovery. Would that be recommended in this case? (I'll have to find a PC, I think...)
