[How-To] Manual Rooting of LS670ZVH/ZVJ (+ links to root ZVD/ZV9)

Re: [How-To] Rooting LS670ZVH

After the step install.bat I get "device not found".
Did you:
1) enable usb debugging on your phone
2) install the LG USB drivers (this should have already been done if you have rooted a previous version)
3) plug in your USB cable to your computer

Re: [How-To] Rooting LS670ZVH

I have successfully completed step #5 but I am having a problem with Step #6

I ran the Install.bat and the files are successfully transferred, but when I attempt to reboot into recovery it does not work.

I've tried using the "adb reboot recovery" cmd and using the home+vol down+pwr button. In either case, the LG logo appears and then goes away but the recovery screen does not appear.

At first I thought this was the "blank screen" problem, which I successfully dealt with already this morning. But when I attempt to run the Android Screencast is gives an error indicating the device is not connected.

UPDATE: it was the blank screen problem. I rebooted to the phone, launched screencast, then was able to see the recovery screen on my PC

If I cycle the battery I can reboot back into normal phone functions, but cannot get to the recovery screen.

any advice?

Sometimes "adb reboot recovery" doesn't work.

You cannot run screencast initially from recovery. You need to run it from android first, then reboot. If this isn't possible, you can try the rest of the install "blind". I provided pictures so you can visualize what you are doing. There aren't that many things you need to do, so it shouldn't be that bad, even doing it blindly. You just need to press [Vol Dwn] and [Menu] and you are done with the blind portion of Step #6.

Re: [How-To] Rooting LS670ZVH

Thanks for the help, sfhub. I didn't even think about trying to use the recovery blind.

I was able to complete all the steps and everything is working perfect. Thanks for the great guide and information.

This is my first root and now I'm all like... duh, :-! ok now I have a rooted phone. Now what? LOL

There is a "What's next" section in the guide. There will likely be more things you can do going forward, it is early on in the release cycle of ZVH. We had a lot more options with ZVD.

Re: [How-To] Rooting LS670ZVH

This is a placeholder post for how to do factory reset from within stock Recovery

You /data will be RESET after doing this.

Remove USB cable (if necessary)

Power down phone (or remove/reinsert battery if you are stuck at Android logo)

Simultaneously press and hold [Power][Vol Dwn][Home] buttons until Recovery shows up
(you might get a blank screen if you are on V9 recovery and have the new LCD, this is expected)

After booting to recovery (pictures provided below if you are doing this blind)
- press [Vol Dwn] TWICE to highlight "wipe data/factory reset" [pic]
- press [Menu] to select
- press [Vol Dwn] SEVEN times to highlight "Yes -- delete all user data" [pic]
- press [Menu] to select

Plug USB cable back in (if necessary)

Re: [How-To] Rooting LS670ZVH

Can I stop at step 5 if I just want a unrooted (ready for repair) phone?

Thanks

Re: [How-To] Rooting LS670ZVH

uh oh... somehow missed the Android Screencast note. Now stuck with a blank screen and no clue what should be displayed.

I have a sneaky feeling this won't end well.

Phone was rooted (ZVD). Xionia custom recovery. I was attempting the ZF9 recovery and I'm stuck somewhere between step 3 and step 4.

"adb devices" shows the device in recovery

"adb reboot" works

"adb reboot recovery" works

"adb shell" gives this error:
adb shell "exec '/system/bin/sh' failed: No such file or directory

Any ideas are welcome.

If you are saying you want it to look stock because you are returning it, then yes, you can just stop at step 5. I would actually complete step 5 to erase your data before returning the phone, but that is up to you.

Step 3 is supposed to be performed from within Android. During step #2 you would have been in android. Then you continue to step #3. Only once you complete step #3 do you boot to recovery. I think you are trying to do Step #3 from within Recovery.

You can do android screencast for steps 4 & 6 so you can see the screen, but really there is very little interaction you need to do and you might as well do it blind. I provided pictures so you could visualize what is on the screen.

I'm 99% sure I did step 3 correctly, from within Android... I was fine until the reboot recovery step. When it rebooted it went blank and so far when I try to follow the "blind" procedure, I'm not sure if it is working. I've tried using the vol down button, then the menu button. I then waited 2-3 minutes (to clear the 75 second step) and pressed menu again to start the 3-5 minute step... waited 20 min and there was no reboot. Tried the whole thing again and still no reboot. That's where I am now.

I wouldn't worry a whole lot at this point. You haven't done anything that is irreversible as far as I can tell. You can still boot into Recovery so most things can be repaired. Now just don't go off and try really random things to move forward or you can make it much worse.

What I mean is you only get this error:
"adb shell" gives this error:
adb shell "exec '/system/bin/sh' failed: No such file or directory
If you are doing "adb shell" from within Recovery.

Can you boot into Android and do a

busybox md5sum /sdcard/update.zip

if that doesn't work try

/system/bin/busybox md5sum /sdcard/update.zip

and compare it to the md5 of the ZVH update.zip in the first post

Need to verify if you did Step #1 correctly.

Re: [How-To] Rooting LS670ZVH

Looks like I might finally get the display back. It didn't go blank after the LG screen... it has been on the Sprint screen for a couple minutes, so getting all the way into Android may be the next hurdle but hopefully I'll at least be able to see the recovery menu if I have to go that route. I do have Screencast up and running, so that's a positive sign.

Re: [How-To] Rooting LS670ZVH

I'm back on track.... step 4 completed and I'm back into the phone system with the update.

Still not sure what went wrong, but it looks like it's working ok now.

Re: [How-To] Rooting LS670ZVH

Hey guys

We have 3 lg670's in the house, all are rooted and ruining grom.
I was able to flash back to stock recovery, and then the new LS670ZVH update,
and root my phone, but my sons phone does not communicate with the pc,
its like the usb part died, it will charge, but usb debugging, or sd drive will not show up
via the usb cable.

Is there a way to flash stock recovery, flash the update, root, and flash custom recovery all with out the PC, just via sd card ?

Thanks

Re: [How-To] Rooting LS670ZVH

Every step in the ZVH rooting thread can be done without PC except the rage exploit, which needs to be done with adb.

Re: [How-To] Rooting LS670ZVH

sfhub

can you toss a dog a bone.

how can I flash stock recovery from the sd card via my custom recovery,
do I need a flashable recovery zip file,
or ?

i'm kinda lost, been looking for files and links
but I find nothing.
