[How To] One-Click Root Your Droid X [Official 2.2 OTA]

The only thing i can find to unroot is the abd way on 2.1. Is there a link to unroot for 2.2???

Ok, I'm dumb. Ran the processes, put everything in tools for SDK, clicked doroot batch file and it ran fine. At the end it says I am rooted with zero errors, cool! Problem is barnaacle and all my other root only programs don't work, and I can't find anything related to superuser permissions on my phone. Am I missing a step? Was I supposed to load anything to the SDcard that I didn't? I have done a battery pull or 2 and still nothing. I know I'm missing something, just don't know what. Any help is greatly appreciated!
Josh...were you rooted on 2.1?

Yes I was, using the easy root one click app. I used their unroot before upgrading to 2.2 official though, if that helps.

I did this and got a failed message, however I still had the SuperUser icon on my apps screen. When I tried to open SetCPU it said Root Access Not Detected SetCPU could not obtain root access.

EDIT:
Tried again and I got the message:
Rooting failed.
ERROR 6: Failed to give proper permissions system files.

REALLY? You rooted (if you did your research knowing that there isnt a full unroot) and now you wiggin' out to unroot?

How about you ask nicely and join the discussion, instead of just wiggin' out. Calm down, I know it sucks to bug your phone, but tomorrow's sun will still rise and your needs will be met.

Did you see the last post after that? There is a work around, I have no idea if it works (Using D1 unroot technique).

I am not rooting until there is an unroot and custom ROM/Kernel. I have rooted before just for tethering and autostarts. The phone is fine now without autostarts running and I didnt use tethering as much as I thought I would.

I was rooted on 2.1 droid x using one click root. did not unroot prior to update to 2.2. I actually lost root priveleges but still had su app. When I tried to root on 2.2 it would go through the process, but still no priveleges. I used rsd lite to to rewrite system files, then DOroot. Worked great. I might add that I used the the 2.2 sbf and a new version of rsd lite. Hope this helps. I did wipe the device before installing doroot.

How exactly did you do this? It irritates me that I have the SU app, with no privelages.

Yeah I tried driod 2 method at it said it was unroot but can still use tether and movefiles. Is there a way I can restore phone to unroot. I did factory restart but still rooted. Thanks again

Downloaded new RSD Lite and 2.2 sbf from this link...
http://forum.androidcentral.com/motorola-x-roms-hacks/36317-tbh-announces-droid-x-2-2-system-sbf-rsdlite-4-8-a.html#post359431

My sbf file had to be in my documents to work.

After that I was stock 2.2 with no su icon. Rooted using Darkonions' root method, then rebooted into recovery, cleared cache, and all was well. I did have to download a beta of wireless tether, I used pre9, and it works fine. You can find it on developers website.

I have learned so much from everyone on here. I had my x bricked in 2.1 and found plenty of info here to get it back. I deleted something I should not have using root explorer. Don't remove anything you don't know what is. Lots of thanks to everyone. I hope I can help some people too.

Factory restores and wipe only hit information that is written to the phone, rooting changes the system at the core and unlocks the door to apps that needed the key. This is why wiping the phone wont remove the root, its a core change, not just information in a database.

The only way to unroot is to have a process to lock the door or to flash the original OS (which would have a block to root access in it) on your phone. This is why updating to FroYo unroots your phone, it flashes over your core change.

Cool will try thanks

Dont forget to use the "Thanks" button, if you truly want to thank someone. It will change that posters 'Thanked by' count so they can show they are a productive person in society (it also creates a warm fuzzy feeling in their tummy ).
