How To: Remove Bloatware Bookmarks in your Browser on your Droid X!
  • Download the attached file below and extract the defaults.xml file
  • Open up Root Explorer and copy or move the file
  • Go to system--->etc--->motorola--->com.android.browser and hit the R/W button up top
  • Paste the modified defaults.xml file here, overwrite the current defaults.xml in there
  • Reboot the phone
  • BAM! You can now delete the Verizon Bookmark

or if you want to just edit the defaults.xml file yourself go to the file listed in the folder above and open it in a text editor,
find int name=”preloaded_bookmark” value=”2″/ and change the value to 0

When finished, it should look like:
int name=”preloaded_bookmark” value=”0″/

props go to WJD Designs

Re: [How To] Remove Bloatware Bookmarks in your Browser on your D

avlfive...ab the bloatware...i have the droid X...i need to know that this isn't an outdated version or the wrong kernal...i dnt need a bricked phone...again. And rooting seems impossible bc none of them work on the Gingerbread update. And taking the phone to Froyo, rooting, thn bk to Gingerbread isn't reliable either. Help please?

Enrique, which update are you running? Are the last digits .621?

Edit:

Assuming you are running .621, there is a thread over at RootzWiki that may help you obtain root so you can freeze the bloat on your phone:

http://rootzwiki.com/topic/19318-important-information-regarding-621-system-update/

It's more complicated that some of the previous root methods, but it should get you where you need to go. Proceed with caution.
