How to remove camera shutter sound?

If you want to remove it completely, try this app. It worked on all my previous phones.

Thanks this worked great on my (unfortunately recently 4.3 updated) GS3 that previously had no way to turn off - other than volume, which was a pain when I wanted to snap a quick silent shot of the kids.

Can't believe there are laws that require a phone to make a sound when snapping a picture! Aren't those the same countries/provinces that have surveillance cameras everywhere and you assume that you're being video'd/photo'd anyway 24/7? And back in the day, regular cameras kept improving the shutter sound to get as silent as possible, now we have the reverse with cameras that make no natural shutter sound!

For verizon, the shutter sound is tied to the ringer volume. If you mute the ringer, the camera sound will be muted too.

Yeah, for those who think it is so easy, it is not. My LG Optimus G (Sprint) has NO option to disable it. It sounds, loudly, in ALL volume settings (including vibrate only, and full silent), sounds even with headphones plugged in, and while finger over the speaker muffles it well, it is still pretty damned loud. The only option in camera app is to change the sound, but not to disable it. Short of rooting it, that is. I also just tried Enforced Stream Silencer, no effect, again in any volume mode. But, it does seem that using other apps works. I am now trying Silent Camera, which has good reviews, but also is crashing like crazy (when trying different shooting modes) and requires full phone reboot after.

OMG This again! There is a HUGE thread already for this, at like 13 pages long. Please search before posting the SAME thing over!

TEST Y300 HUAWEI
Using Root explorer Raiz

SYSTEM
MEDIA
AUDIO
UI

rename the files and the sound camera off
You can rename the video sound files too

There's a patched samsung camera apk at xda, buy apparently you need a deodexed rom for it to work:

[HOW TO] Remove camera sounds. ROOT REQUIRED

[MOD][UPDATE FOR MEA] Camera no sounds (root required) - uploaded

There's also the CameraMute that mutes your phone at the precise moment of taking the picture, but only selected devices are compatible:

[APP] Camera Mute Version 1.5 (11-19-13) - Mute your camera shutter without

The method of renaming ogg files under /system/media/audio/ui doesn't work anymore because the sound files are included in the apk itself.

If the phone is rooted... goto root > system > media > ui
Under ui , rename the files shutter.ogg to anything eg shutter_no.ogg
do the same for camera...
Reboot....
Voila!!!! No camera sounds...

Enjoy!

I have a slightly earlier model (S2 - rooted), and the camera shutter sound consists of a beep followed by a loud click. I followed the steps above, and the click is gone--great! But the beep is still there; how do I get rid of that?

This single beep sound also happens when touching the screen to focus on a particular object in the frame, but I can't find any .ogg files in the /ui folder that seem to take care of this.

For anyone thinking of doing this, please remember that it's actually illegal in some places to take a picture without some sort of shutter sound (and you can be arrested for it). Check your local laws before turning it off.

How to remove camera shutter sound? Thanks! :)

I hit my volume down arrow it showed ringtone turned down so I hit the arrow to the right to open more volume controlled. D turned everything down , it was the only method that worked even silent cling the phone didn't help
