How-To repair your bootloader after using the 2.1 RUU

Alright we are all good, everything seems to be working, booted up just fine and I entered in all my account info again, and all is well. Thanks again gbhil, could not have done it without you man!!

EDIT: And all my apps are in the market again, excellent!

You're more than welcome man.

And thank you! You're willingness to fight through it gives us a pretty bulletproof option that should work for everyone now.

Oh and by the way gbhil, the .img file that you have up on the first page in the tutorial is actually named recovery-RA-heroc-v152.img instead of recovery-RA-heroc-v1.5.2.img. Just a heads up that people may get confused.

gracias. Will change it now

EDIT
Just re-dl'd it to be sure. Here it comes up as 1.5.2.img . Maybe that was the whole problem? Somehow it got changed on your computer?

Hey gbhil. Thanks for the info here. I was a bonehead who chose option 1 when updating to Sprint RUU 2.1 I was able to use yer method to get Fresh 1.1 on my phone. However, I am trying to use the 1.56 RUU and I keep getting an error. It says error 140 Bootloader. Is my phone bricked?

If your phone boots, its not bricked. I think the error you don't want with the RUU is 110.

HMM...

Any ideas on why the RUU 1.56 won't load then?

Sprint RUU fails with Error 140: Bootloader Version Error. I get that every time

You can't ever use an RUU with a lower version of hboot. You can flash a new recovery image using these instructions, and with that you can flash any version of the system, the radio, bootloader, etc. But you can't roll back hboot.

But don't worry. I have 2 Hero's here that I used the RUU on for testing, and can package up anything needed for flashing. In theory we could even flash back to 100% stock (minus hboot) and an unrooted system..but then you would be stuck there forever.

I see... So hopefully Sprint doesn't use an old Hboot when the official 2.1 comes out...

You and me both lol.

But even if they do, nothing to worry about. I like to switch things around and play with new phones, but I still see myself using the Hero until I can't buy a new one any longer. It just fits me well.

I'll be around to rip apart RUU's and make them usable for a while ;)

Hey Gbhil, One last question fro you on this..

If sprint uses the hboot from the latest RUU leak for the official 2.1 release, then wouldnt we be fine updating?

Im currently using one of damageless' roms. So theoretically, Couldn't I use the test RUU and then try and get the official update?

Yep. Chances are you WILL be able to use the official update..I honestly don't see HTC or Sprint using an older version of hboot.

Be warned though - using an official RUU/Update vs. a leaked Test RUU will take away the ability to root your phone forever. Nobody is going to put effort into rooting a year old phone that's already been rooted once.

cool man..

I guess my only concern is this damn sound loss issue with the 2.1 roms. I keep getting cut off during phone calls

i was wondering how exactly do i go by returning my htc hero to stock. i think i did the repair right but now im lost. help please!!
