[HOW-TO] Restore Nook Color to rooted stock

well I have successfully made a brick out of my NC. I flashed nookie froyo to internal memory. then loaded the gapps through adb, saw them extract, did an adb reboot, the nc went off but never came back on. now i got nothing, no power on whatsoever.

Which restore method should I use?

Have you tried charging it?

I'm currently experimenting with restoring various systems by using a "rootpack" bootable sd card that I made. It's working quite well.

1 card has the bootable, and then I unmount it swap cards and mount it.

This page is pretty awesome so far:
Monster RootPack Manual

It had charge when I started but I did plug it in and try to boot with the a/c connected and still nothing.

My pc does not see it when I connect via usb.

Something got messed up with your boot partition. It almost certainly isn't bricked. You'll want to start by burning a nookie froyo bootable SD card, if you don't have one already. Then follow the directions in the restore to stock thread (probably using adb).

Updated OP with the easiest way yet. Those of you with problems, this one looks very solid and only requires burning an SD image with an added zip file.

thanks Will, you da man!. The bootable SD got me going with Nookie Froyo. I think I am gong to restore to root stock now then try flashing froyo to internal memory again. Glutton for punishment here.

Using the new zip recovery way I cant seem to copy the restore image to my SD. I can't access the unallocated portion after I burn the boot image. I have been trying the Partition Manager but can't seem to create a partition that my PC will recognize.

I used 2 microSD cards. 1 to boot to and format and initiate and 1 to have all the zip files of the various builds. Once booted, I would unmount the sd card and swap them, then mount the sd then back out to install .zip file from card. I kept doing this until I got a setup that I liked. It was easy to just put a bunch of the zip files on a sd card and try them just by swapping the cards back and forth for booting. (I thought about partitioning a sd card so I could have the first drive as the boot drive and maybe be able to navigate to the other partition without swapping cards, but didn't want to bother.)

Yeah, Timmy's method sounds good - I couldn't create another partition either. Can you just drop it in the same partition as clockwork though? I think I read someone say that worked.

timmyjoe 42 - thanks for the help. I am giving your method a try. I have downloaded both the full recovery zip and the nookie froyo zip and in both cases when I install from SD on CWR I get bad file errors. Where are you getting your zip files from?

I have been trying to restore stock for a day now and no method seems to work. I have an error message that I can't read.
Now i'm trying the clockworkmod method and when I try to load the 1.0.1 stock restore I get a message saying I need more space even though it's a 16gb card. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Frank

OK- i put it on two different sd cards. I booted into cwm and formated the system and data. But when I put the card in with the zip file it says can't open sdcard/update.zip. I tried recopying and even renaming to update.zip and still get installation aborted message.
Any ideas.
Thanks,
Frank

when you put the card witht he zip file try unmounting it (if it auto mounted) then mount it. Then select something like select zip from sd, not update.zip. It should then show you the zip file and you can select it.

I've been getting various files from these forums:

(When you burn the image file to the microSD card, it converts the card to a bootable disk and re-writes the disk file size. This is why you can't put the .zip files on it also.)

Before you unmount the sd card with CWR, Go to mounts and storage, format data, then format system. In the same menu then unmount the sd car, swap cards, then mount the card. Then go back and install the zip file you want from the sdcard (not the update.zip menu option). Flash the one you want. Then select reboot from the menu (I think it's 1 or 2 back)

To maneuver through the menus:
Volume up and down moves the "cursor"
The "n" button is the select/ execute
The power button is to go back or "up" in the menu structure

This was a lifesaver for me.. I had the update to 1.1 (not rooted) and thought I would be stuck till a new way to convert my nook would come out but, using this I was able to revert to 1.01 factory (confirmed in system info).

I had only one sd card so first burned the clockwork image to it and following the directions step by step, format the system then data.

At that point, I had to remove the care and format it before dropping the stock restore 1.0.1. zip onto the card. Reinserted the card and chose install zip from SD card and it installed everything.

When I hit reboot it at first came up with just a black screen but I powered it off then back on and it went thru the boot process and presented me with a new registration process as if I just took it from the box. Now I have the 1.0.1 version and I can now go ahead and root/install to internal memory.:)

Thanks for this...

When trying to do this restore I have an issue. I'm using a 2 gig sd card but after I burn the CWM_128mb.img to the card it says I don't have enough room to copy the nook-complete-restore.zip file to it. The image reformats my card down to 128mb? Help

(read the entire thread)
You will need to use 2 sd cards. 1 with the image, and 1 with the zip. Unmount the image sd after you format the data and system, swap cards, mount sd, install zip from sd card.

You can do it with one card. Install the CWM image on the card, boot the NC into Clockwork Recovery with the card. Take the card out, format it and place the nook-complete-restore.zip on the card. Put it back into the NC and flash it.
