How to root a zv9 op V?

I updated my op V to zv9 by mistake, a big one! And now, the update wiped out my root/CWM. I have to start from scratch. Nothing will work without root. And the root for zv9 is quite intimidating, I cannot make the usb driver of OP V work on my winPC laptop, "device not found". And revert back to zv5 is what I prefer, if it is doable. I read sammys write up on revert to zv5, also quite involved. What is my option? Currently it is running the boring stock ROM 2.2.2 ; the op V I know has a million custom ROMs.
