[How-To] Root LG Optimus T

it doesnt like spaces. everything I type must be like this."d:/android/tools/adb push rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin/data/local/tmp/rageagainstthecage" in the post there is a space right afeter "...arm5.bin /..."

Thats your problem. You need the " " ....... without the space you're just continuing the file path and theres no file path in android named "rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin/data/local/tmp/rageagainstthecage"

Now why you cant put a space is an entirely different issue but removing the space is why it's telling you the directory doesn't exist, it doesn't.

its when i put a space that it tells me directory doesnt exist.

Makes no sense at all. not that I'm doubting you, just saying I've spent my share of time in CMD in my days and it should be the opposite. No space means your continuing a file path, in your case a file path that doesnt exist, in which case it would say " directory doesnt exist" ...

space is whats telling it this is the end of the path, after the space is where i need to push said file specified in first part of command line. ::shurgs::

So to break down a command line in people talk it would go like this ....

ADB (this is my tool) push (this is what i should do) path/path/file (this is what I'm looking to push) "space" path/path/file (this is where I'm looking to push too)

I think you should copy your permit post and paste as iamlilysdad said. much easier for us to assist as right now were making assumptions.

already figured it out. you aren't getting into adb before you're trying to push files. go into d: and click on android-sdk, then look for the green android. double click to open it. copy the path that appears on the top of the window. then go to command and type cd (the path you just copied)

then it should display something like

d:/android-sdk/wherever it is/tools/

then you can adb push

Did i get all that right ksmith? i'm trying. :)

Good job. Yep.

For example when I open a command prompt to do adb stuff the first thing I have to do is point it to the tools path of the sdk. for me it looks like this:

cd c:/android-sdk/android-sdk-windows/tools

then when i press enter that path shows up so that i'm now running commands from that path. that's where adb lives.

You got it! that's where you should be. just remember sometimes it can take more than one try to get the #

and when you get to the last step where right before step 5 you might get a ton of file doesn't exist errors. if you do just continue to follow the directions

In the task manager in the pc i see the adb processing. should i kill it or just leave it after each try?

I have to go to class now. I will try again later tonight. thank you for all the help and patience. I will bother you all later tonight a bit more till i get this.

when you open the sdk manager you mean just double click and thats it. leave it alone dont do anything else? i dont download anything with it?

Nope you don't need to download any of the stuff in sdk manager thats for if you would like to build stuff from source or apps.
