How to Root

You can re-establish root but doing the same process as before. You don't need to push anything though.

I installed the Verizon update this afternoon.

I was then able to load a 64-bit driver from zedomax.com and for whatever reason, it worked. (I didn't write down the steps but I believe I had to physically install a specific driver before the rest would work.)

At any rate, once I got the drivers installed, I followed the steps at the first of this thread and everything worked like a charm. Added lag-fix next and now I'll look into the tether capability.

Wish I knew why I had driver problems in the first place.

When I did the one click method before, it took 3 times for it to complete. Try again.

Dirrk,
I just want to say you are the man. I used this to root from my PC but still followed what you were doing. I'm a n00b with some computer skills and able to follow directions and troubleshoot well and I found it pretty easy if you don't get overly frustrated.

Once I downloaded the driver, which took a while, i ran the .zip and part1 didn't work so I did part 2. It worked. Then I ran the One Click Lag Fix from the market and had to use V1+ for that to work.

I still don't know how to remove(change the file name, rather) of the vz stuff like navigator and bing and all that(debloat). Does it do it auto? I could use a little help on that or a link to a post that specifically deals with just that.

I used the link for the wireless tether and snapped the code with my barcode scanner app and it installed perfectly. It fired right up and I tried it out on my netbook and it worked perfect! This is my first real smartphone so I am a little overly excited, so sorry about that.

I am loving this phone(SF) and thanks again for the good info. It is greatly appreciated.

You guys are awesome.....it took a few times to get WinXP to correctly get the drivers and then I worked perfectly. I just got Titanium backup to make sure its rooted and we got a green light. Thanks for all the info.

I had similar issue before I figured out it was just windows....open up device manager in Windows...right click properties, Hardware etc
Nothing will work until your device shows up without any yellow errors.
You may have to reinstall drivers and restart WinXP system
before they show right. Then click file in fascinate folder and continue Dirks instructions.
Hope this helps someone else.

durring part one it reads
"sh: can't open /sdcard/com.sh"
"I will now restart your device"

I checked that usb was mounted and that sdcard was secure in phone.

any ideas?

Is there a way to remove all the verizon BS?

like VZnav and cityid? There are Vz apps i would like to remove offhand as well. I figured there has to be a way to browse the actual fascinate.

Thanks Dirk :)

I had the same thing happen to me, but before hitting enter for the restart, I waited about a minute, then hit enter and it worked, so wait about a minute or two before hitting enter to restart the phone.

Check the files in your SD card, delete anything having to do with the root, so such, busy box etc. I didn't mount my SD card and it worked. Also delete com.sh, and run it again, I watched my phones screen and it lagged a little while I was waiting to hit enter after waiting two minutes.

Hey guys had my fascin. rooted before the update...I did update and it was successful. ...how can I tell for sure I lost my root? I still have all my icons and files that go along with the root........

checked SD for com.sh and busy box, I could not find any files related to root. Still no luck. Thank you for the post.

I have tried this about 5 times now. twice su, superuser.apk, busybox, and com.sh have appeared in the phone's file window on my pc after the phone restarts. I've tried redoing the procedure with them there and after deleting, no dice. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

how do i check my computer to see if i need the 32 bit or 64 bit driver?

nevermind, i got it!

i did everything the guide says and all i get is a window that pops up and says "daemon not started, starting daemon, daemon started"

then it says press any button.......

so i do

and then it says "error device not connected" or error device not found......

i have installed the x64 windows drivers (running Windows 7 x64)

i enabled USB debugging and stay awake just as pictured in the guide and rebooted, more than once, verified settings are correct

tried different USB ports, phone beeps and indeed stays alive while connected and is charging

so ALL i needed was the x64 drivers installed and the fascinate.zip folders right? i didnt have to install the SDK or anything else first right?
well hell....let this be a warning guys, i was using the USB cable from my LG enV Touch/LG Ally which is a standard micro USB cable that works with any other device i have ever used that uses micro USB....except the Sammy Fascinate, went and got the cable out of the box that came with the phone and it works now. whats interesting is the phone would charge fine off of the standard micro USB cable, but it wont work for data

so may want to add that to the tutorial, to make sure users are using the cable that came with the phone, not one that looks the same
