I am getting the following error right before the window closes after clicking START_ROOT... What does this mean?

any tips for getting the wireless tether to work? I installed the pre9 apk. My computer can find the network, but fails to connect. I am running win7 if that makes a diff

I am getting the following error right before the window closes after clicking START_ROOT... What does this mean?

I just tried on mine (downloaded fresh .zip file from thread #1) and it got past the pushes just fine and proceeded onto the Restarting of phone..

Code:
*
Press any key to continue . . .
*
* Pushing the files to your phone
* rage.bin, busybox, Superuser.apk, su, com.sh
294 KB/s (0 bytes in 1867568.006s)
82 KB/s (0 bytes in 26264.000s)
188 KB/s (0 bytes in 196521.001s)
16 KB/s (0 bytes in 5392.000s)
5 KB/s (0 bytes in 281.000s)
* Restarting your phone to ensure the exploit will work
* When your phone comes back on please unlock it if it is locked and then
* wait

The problem you're seeing is in the PMSLEEP.bat file.. but, I can't figure out why the find command would be failing for you and not for me... (also, not sure if that find command is being executed on the phone or in my pc...)

Actually.. Open up a DOS-window (command-prompt) and type "find" and hit enter... do you get:
Code:
FIND: Parameter format not correct
or
Code:
'find' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.

Could be that your PC does not have the "find" command available to it.

I am getting the latter: 'find' is not recognized as an internal or external command....

How do I remedy this?

I'd search google for your OS Version and "install find command".. It may be something as simple as a Windows add-on that's simply not enabled...

also, could just be your Windows PATH not quite right .. I can't remember what it's supposed to be, or how to check it.. but, just like anything, Windows Command-line needs to know "where" to find the "find.exe" command in order for it to be successful within the command prompt...

I found the "find.exe" in my C:\Windows\system32 folder. Go there and see if you have a "find.exe". if you do, you can copy that file over to the "FascinateRoot" folder (the same folder where the START_ROOT.bat is located).. this should allow the .batch file to find the "find" command and continue on.

If you do not have a find.exe under system32, then it sounds like something happened to it.

I'm not sure of what the best method is to obtain it... I could probably post my copy on the forum..

I tried using the 1-click root method on my Windows 7 notebook. Like some others on this thread, it got past the push and then shot through the rest of the script in a couple of seconds. I figured that PMSLEEP does not work on my machine, so I inserted three lines of code near the top of PMSLEEP.bat to make it old school :

@ECHO OFF
:: Use local environment
SETLOCAL

:: Check if a timeout period is specified
IF [%1]==[] GOTO Syntax

:: Added these three lines right here -
echo wait for %1 seconds before hitting key to resume
pause
goto End

When you run the START_ROOT script with the edited PMSLEEP it will tell you to wait some number of seconds before hitting a key. So each time you get that message you just wait X seconds before hitting enter. This fixed it up. Not pretty, but it works.

Did a factory reset, then wanted to remove superuser and all root software etc so I can return phone. Can't seem to get rid of the superuser.apk and icon.

Tried to unroot with adb by removing the files and was successful with busybox and SU, but failed on superuser.apk and exited, leaving me with no root, but still the superuser icon.

Now I'm trying to re-root, so that I can delete the icon and my phone freezes and the one click root says "device not found" right after the "testing exploit" screen, then tells me to hit any key to continue.

Device is frozen and I have to battery pull after.

Edit- Word for word:

Successfully exploited, installing permanent root files and deleting temporary files

error device not found (5 times)

restarting your phone

error device not found

complete

phone is frozen

HELP PLEASE!

Edit 2- Apparently it is freezing during the "Wait 3 minutes part" or so I just found out.

Ok I have the Droid X(rooted) but my sister just got the Fascinate and Im rooting it for her tomorrow. My only question is about the Samsung Drivers. Once i have downloaded them do i just click on the setup.exe file and install that? Is it that easy to get the drivers or am i missing something?

Also I dont know if the Fascinate has different USB connection modes like the X but if it does what mode do i need to be in to root? Examples... PC Mode, Mass Storage, Charge Only? I do know i need USB Debugging ON

Ok 1 more question. Do i need to extract the root.zip folder to lets say the Desktop or can i just click "start root" from inside winzip and it will still work?

Thanks for the help guys

So my phone seemed to have the update installed around 4:30 this morning (I'm assuming I saw a light in a half asleep state and tried to shut it off and clicked install instead of cancel). Anyway, I noticed I lost root access, so I ran dirrk's EZ Root v0.2 and I keep getting the following error.

I tried to run it a few times, but I either get the above error or it says Restarting and about to exploit your device and then just sits there past the 5 minutes mark.

I really want to root, especially if it would make my phone have more battery life. That's really what I would be doing it for. The phone is already plenty fast for me, but if rooting improves performance, I'm all for doing it. I've read a little up on it and I am still really scared to try it and quite frankly still pretty unsure of how to even do it. Plus, there were a million ROMs and themes out there and it's all kind of overwhelming. Is anyone really patient with some time on their hands that wants to either message me on here or email me lindsclayton@gmail.com/GTalk about this? I'd really like to do it but I'd need it explained to me in a lot more detail. I'm a quick learner but I definitely need to make sure I do it perfectly because I've had 7 UNrooted phones break on me and I don't want the Fascinate to break, especially because if it's rooted I can't return it in that condition. Aside from my question about anyone being available to help/talk, are rooted phones REALLY accident prone? Because despite it improving my performance, it's not worth it if it has a lot of issues.

Sorry this was long-winded.

i dont know what happened

i accidentally updated to the new software for my fascinate it completely took off my root and when i try to re root it it gives error device not found.

PLEASE HELP

Can ANYONE ANSWER MY QUESTIONS?

I have the same exact problem....:confused:

Same Problem, I just got my Fascinate today *sadface*... I really want/need to root it. And I can't get ADB to work for the life of me.

Same here. Im flashing back to stock and trying again but I get the same error above. After it exploits it shows as not connected and the rest of the app fails.

Same problem as above. Runs through everything restarts my phone and suddenly flashes errors. Doesn't root. What's going on???

These kind of comments are why I'm glad I didn't try to root yet. But like I said, if anyone is ever kind enough to really thoroughly explain everything, I'd try it. But no way I would attempt it right now.

why will this not work i downloaded drivers installed them plugged in my phone did the usb debugging thing then downloaded and unzipped the fascinate root. then ran the start_root and it does nothing what gives?
