[How-To] Rooting LS670ZVD with GingerBreak (no reverting and OTA works too!)

Re: [How-To] Rooting LS670ZVD with GingerBreak (no reverting and

sorry for being stupid...ill tell you all what ive done so far, so you can tell me how ive messed up.

i dld the mac osx gingerbreak/snap/whatever it actually is

unzipped it and threw it in /users/daniel/gingersnap

opened terminal and changed directories to gingersnap

no problem

went to the next step, typed
adb shell

bc i assumed that step:

adb shell
rm -r /data/local/tmp
mkdir /data/local/tmp
exit

was supposed to be done a line at a time, not all at once....received

Daniel-Schmidts-Computer:/users/daniel/gingersnap Daniel$ adb shell
-bash: adb: command not found

remember: that is literally ALL i have done. the above is the Only steps i have taken besides plugging my phone into my mac, enabling usb debugging, and turning off and then on my phone. im sorry in advance for the glaring errors, but id really appreciate someone's help, as it would probably only take you 30 seconds.

i assume i cant just open the ginger app in the osx gui w my phone connected? i have to go through the cmd steps...why else would they be there if i could just connect my phone, enable usb debugging, reboot, and open the app.

Thanks and hi everybody!

Daniel

Yes you can just open the Gingersnap application with your phone connected and you don't have to go through the manual steps in this thread. The manual steps are here for those who want to learn how the process works, but you may use Gingersnap by itself if you wish.

If you want to use the manual steps outlined in the first post of this thread, you will need the Android SDK set up on your Mac, hence the bash errors.

Re: [How-To] Rooting LS670ZVD with GingerBreak (no reverting and

so after i open the app and it in theory roots my phone, my next step should be getting
xionia? and a rom? and backing up the phone?

is there anything else that would be a VERY VERY good idea to do?

any thoughts as to which rom is the most stable/best?

any thoughts as to how on earth i get those items actually ONTO my phone?

im definitely going to render my phone unusuable at the rate of knowledge i have.

again, i thank you kindly for your help

Ok, I am having problems keeping my root and I have followed your guide to the exact.
[!] dance forever my only one
# id
id
uid=2000(shell) gid=2000(shell) groups=1003(graphics),1004(input),1007(log),1009
(mount),1011(adb),1015(sdcard_rw),3001(net_bt_admin),3002(net_bt),3003(inet)
#

I am concerned that I get a root prompt but my UID/GID are still shell, either way I can still do everything a root can. I then follow your guide the rest of the way (excluding the nan backup and recovery rom part) and when I reboot or even close my CMD prompt I lose the root all together. Is there something I missing?

and when I use the terminal emulator I get Permission Denied when I type "su" ;/

Re: [How-To] Rooting LS670ZVD with GingerBreak (no reverting and

Why am I having trouble getting adb shell to load? I get to adb shell but get "error: device not found".

I have another lg that is rooted that I can adb to just fine on the same computer.

Both devices are
Android version 2.2.2
SW version LS670ZVD
one has Build Number Reborn rom v2.2.2. the other is zvd.41b2924e

Any advice?
Thanks,
Mike

Check your USB debugging settings in Settings->Applications->Development.

I'm not totally sure what your issue is. I think you ARE rooted. When you execute "su" your screen MUST be on and not at the lock screen. You will need to accept the Superuser prompts.

My phone is older and it detected that Froyo was installed ... I think I have finally got it rooted completely! Your tutorial worked except the Superuser.apk (atleast for me) I had to download it directly from the market place and install it after rooting w/o reboot. Yes, it's working now and I thank you, I can rejoice now! :)

Re: [How-To] Rooting LS670ZVD with GingerBreak (no reverting and

I used the Gingerbreak app apk on 4shared directly on the phone which worked great. How do I do a nandroid backup and flash a custom ROM from there? None of the command prompts worked, do I need the android SDK or something. Sorry I am a bit noobish here.

You need to flash a custom recovery, than you will have the option to do nandroid backups and/or flash a rom from the recovery menu.

Personally I use and recommend Xionia Custom Recovery a quick forum search or scrolling through the reference sticky by KSmithInNY should find it for you.

There is also a link to both available recovery images in the first post of this thread.

Re: [How-To] Rooting LS670ZVD with GingerBreak (no reverting and

How long should the Gingerbreak exploit take? I've powered off & reconnected several times even changed cables. I keep hanging up at...... vold: 0065 GOT start: 0x000142a8 GOT end: 0x000142e8 for 30 minutes + at a time. I've been at it now for several hours, restarting the phone disconnecting, reconnecting. BTW....This isn't my first rodeo. All my drivers are installed, adb works fine. ADB shell reveals the $, but this damn exploit won't work.

***EDIT*** Nevermind......My dumbass son took his sd card out. Put his sd card back in and rooted.......Now off to kick his ass for wasting my afternoon.

You do need the SDK manager ADB and Java. My biggest worry was not downloading that before I rooted, I am a bit ocd when it comes to doing stuff in order, but it's fine to download them after you root. There are a lot of great guides out there and everyone on this forum is really nice. This is a complete how to and what is for SDK and ADB - [READ FIRST] [REF] Dictionary for n00b - What is.../What does ...mean? (2011/01/17) - xda-developers. You just have to remember to read read read and then read one more time lol. My add makes that the hardest step for me lol. I hoped that helped at least a little!!!

Re: [How-To] Rooting LS670ZVD with GingerBreak (no reverting and

I tried your guide to rooting my phone but got stopped at the part were you run gingerbreak as your op is a year old almost i guessing there has been a software update to stop this the message was gingerbreak: permission denied

There has not been a software update. It still works, you just probably skipped the step where you change the permissions (chmod).

Does any one have time to walk me thru the steps to root my optimus s

Re: [How-To] Rooting LS670ZVD with GingerBreak (no reverting and

thanks drew for posting back I don't think I forgot, but I don't think I did it right guess that's obvious anyway about 4 last night I woke up (when I can't do something I want to do I cant rest that's how I got decent with computers) and went over the op and seen gingersnap I thought humm worth a try if it screws it up I'll just throw it against the wall or drown it I've got insurance on it. It worked like a charm it is now rooted if you made this program thank you if it was someone else then please let me know so that I may thank them properly. to the poster above me maybe if you want you could try gingersnap it's real easy just remember to the drivers for your phone google ls670 drivers and find the result with lg in it then download and install. after that put your phone in debugg mode by going to app management -development-usb debugg plug in phone let drivers load (this my take a few seconds as it's a composite device) start gingersnap click root device wait, get nervous as it reboots phone, breath a big sigh when the boot screen appears and your done

Re: [How-To] Rooting LS670ZVD with GingerBreak (no reverting and

is there anyone i can mail my phone too, to unbrick it, i know how to flash the custom roms and stuff, but i can't unbrick it. i've tried it a couple of times, but i don't want to bother it anymore. I have since moved on the HTC TP2, and that phone had me up til 3 am two nights in a row, so I'd like a break from fixing phones. I'm in Texas and can pay through Paypal if needed, thanks. I knew not to the privacy settings wipe, but didn't realize it until after it was done.
