Ok, I'm getting a little frustrated. Here's what I've done so far (using LJ's instructions and OE1's tips):
-Downloaded HTC Sync, did not open/run, and latest RUU (Sept 20 2010 for radio 2.15.00.07.28)
-Ran the s-on tool from unrevoked (I used unrevoked3, not forever, but I was trying everything)
-Power off > bootloader > hboot > run RUU (I've tried both hboot and fastboot)
I've done this literally 25 times. I've tried a few different USB ports in the machine. I can't get past the 170 USB error. Can anyone tell me if I'm doing something wrong or missing a step? I can't figure it out!!
I just found a post that saved my sanity. Here are the instructions:
1) Download the s-on tool (.zip file) from the Unrevoked site, move it to the root of the SD card, boot into recovery, select it and install it.
2) Download the RUU zip file, not the .exe (best spot I found was the link from orangeeater1's post on page 32 of this discussion). I used the signed .zip for radio 2.15.00.11.19.
3) Move that .zip to the root of the SD.
4) Open Astro (or whatever file manager you use), find the .zip and rename it "PC36IMG", and do not make the .zip.zip mistake.
5) Reboot into the bootloader and let the phone do it's magic. It should find your file, run it and ask if you want to apply the update. You do.
Mine ran, rebooted, ran some more and then asked me to reboot. When I did, voila!! There is the Evo I remembered, in all of it's stock glory, updated to 2.2.
I'm considering trying to re-root the phone to get my free wifi hotspot back, but my experience with ROMs was mixed. I found that my battery life was terrible with Cyanogenmod 7 RC2 and only decent with RC1. RC2 also told me my SD card was broken, and I reformatted it like an idiot, loosing my sock recovery which got me into this mess in the forst place. I went back to CM6, but it was just like you would expect a downgrade to be: not really as cool.
Next I went to Warm TwoPointTwo. It was cool and closer to my OG Evo, but battery life was still terrible.
This was a real education and I don't feel nearly as noob-ish as I used to, but I'm glad to be home again. I love Android!!
at 75% i get the error 110 unable to open file "file open error"
Can somebody help?
