[How-To] Update to DI18 manually

Edit, I got the stock Amazon MP3 apk from a thread over at XDA, installed, and still get validation errors with the update attempt... can anyone that's been through this before having to put back stock apps please help? Thx

Does anyone have a copy of the original amazon mp3 file? After the last update, it's one of the files I deleted not realizing Sprint considered it necessary bloatware... I literally have everything else on the phone, but when I try to update and it does the system check, it sees Amazon missing... incredibly, I can download the file from marketplace no problem, but must be an updated version, because the update install still fails... Of course my titanium backup has everything else covered, but this one file is crossed out and does not appear to have been backed up before it was erased... I'd really like to avoid having to do a full factory install again to do this update... can somebody please help with advice on how to get amazon back to stock and installed? If I download Amazon Mp3 off the market, is there somewhere I need to move the program file to have the system thinks it is stock vs a download?

Thanks Andrew. Been a Pre user since its launch. Loved the Palm forums, and glad to see the same ingenuity is taking place here.

Can anyone fill me in as to how to test my dl and ul speeds?

I dont know how to restart the phone to bring up the special boot menu. I hold camera button all the way down and then vol. down and hold power till it turns on only to find that it boots normally. I also tried holing the cam and vol and just tapping power button. I dont get it. Someone please be more descriptive on this.

The only things I removed are asphalt demo and sprint nascar and still no update. Im really getting fed up with having to keep bloatware on my phone in order to update. If you removed some crappy useless sprint bloatware or preinstalled crapware make sure you not only install it but also copy the apk back into /system/app or else it wont update. Just installing the bloatware will not return your phone to update-able status sadly. I guess its time to put the apk's for the only 2 that are still removed back on and see if an apk discrepancy is what is holding me back.

Well I reinstalled the apk's and put them back into /system/app and I still dont have an update. So at this point Im at a loss, unless for some reason the DC/Baltimore metro area isnt getting the update yet. I guess its time for yet another manual update.

Having the same issue... I removed Amazon MP3 apk and no go on update... trying to avoid full flash back to stock at any cost... how do I move the apk to system/app? Root Manager? Sorry, but have not had to do this before... typically I just install to phone or card and don't worry about it... have not had to install and then move a file within the internal system... any help for a newb would be greatly appreciated... these updates are ridiculous with the mandatory bloatware... almost worth just waiting a few days for a custom ROM with the DI18 update and just reinstalling apps...

1. Install SDK on computer
2. Place .apk in tools folder
3. Fire up Command Prompt
4. CD to tools folder of SDK (cd c:\android-sdk-windows\tools)
5. adb shell remount rw
6. adb push NAME_OF_APK.apk /system/app/
7. Repeat as necessary

So, I'm not rooted (all bloatware in place), not connected to a power source, files in root of sd, named download.zip, everything as it should be and i get error code 7. even downloaded the file more than once.

I bought my Epic a week ago and my build nunber is SPH-D700 ECLAIR.DI18 already. I am assuming that this means I don't need this update????

Thanks for all the good info, I was able to glean through this thread, and several XDA threads. Using Odin I was able to manually update. Thanks!!

Haven't been able to find the DG27 or DI07 (Both Previous toDI18) Updates as download anywhere. Guess I'm taking a ride to the sprint store.

I'm really new to this. Do these files work in the same way as the zip files? ie: copy them to the root of the sd card, boot, run the update?
