How to Voodoo ***Updated 27 Mar 2011***KERNEL BUILT FROM SOURCE/SOUND/UNDERVOLTED

Suicide, did you see Adrynalyne's and my response to this same problem over in DXC's ODIN thread? Adrynalyne has said bluetooth will not work with the EB16 kernel. He said to flash the EB01 kernel, but then you will not have the dummy tethering of the EB16 kernel if that is important to you. Looks like for now you will have to make a choice as to which is more important, wifi tethering with EB16 kernel or bluetooth with EB01 kernel.

If I flashed SC 2.8 voodoo, which includes the EB16 kernel, and then updated the radio to EB01 in Oden, did the radio update include the EB01 kernel? Reason I ask it that my Bluetooth works, but I assumed that I was still using the EB16 kernel from the SC Rom.

im not sure i understand

I think I understand but I don't know the answer.

He is saying he flashed the SC2.8 which has the ROM and Kernel included in the .zip. This includes the EB16 Kernel.

He then went and flashed the EB01.modem.

Question is does the EB01.modem file include the EB01 Kernel as his bluetooth is working.

He is thinking as I would that he has the following setup

SC2.8 ROM
EB16 Kernel
EB01.modem

He is asking however by flashing the EB01.modem is his setup actually:

SC2.8 ROM
EB01 Kernel
EB01.modem

See?

got ya. no, the radio is just the radio.

Thanks for rewriting my question to add more clarity.

I thought that the radio was just the radio and did not include a kernel. Now to figure out why my bluetooth works and if my tether is "protected" by the EB16 kernel. I may reflash the EB16 kernel to see if bt breaks.

I also did my first jump into voodoo doing this. Got the lady, and now I ask, what did you do to my phone to make it so much more responsive?

My 2.8nv wEB16 was quick, but this 2.8v with EB01 Kernel is really fast. Wireless Tethering (for now) and bluetooth I don't use, so I'm in good shape.

why are you curious about your bluetooth? there shouldnt be a problem with bluetooth.

Thanks for the informative post Mike. I just downloaded all the voodoo SC 2.8 stuff, and I'm about to take the plunge. I figure I already bricked it once, why not try again!

Also to expand on this a bit. The superclean ROM is still based off of an EB01 build, so it already includes the EB01 modem (radio). No need to flash the modem. For an outstanding explanation of a lot of this give Sheepdog Elite's outstanding thread here:

Many people were reporting, and Adrynalyne confirmed the EB16 kernel was breaking bluetooth functionality. So he suggested flashing the EB01 kernel which was not causing any problem with bluetooth. Now I am seeing some of the same people who reported the bluetooth not working posting that bluetooth is now for some unknown reason working with the EB16 kernel.

I started my quest to voodoo by going back to stock DI01. Rooted the phone, flashed CWD red, and flashed back up to SC 2.8 with a quick stop at SC 2.6 because 2.8 would not convert to voodoo for me. I noticed that the baseband was still on DI01 after SC 2.8 was on board, so I flashed the EB01 modem.

I would agree that the SC ROM is EB01 based and should come with the modem, but for some reason my experience was different. I am also one of the folks who is on the EB16 kernel and bt is working ok.

And by the way, thanks for helping out on the forum, you have helped me out a few times in the past.

glad you got it working. if you have questions just ask.

I don't have it working yet. Right now I am running SC 2.8nv, and I have all the files in place to switch to 2.8v on my SD card including the EB01 kernel in case the pre-packaged kernel won't enable lagfix like I've read. In your experience, do I need to wipe data if I am switching to Voodoo?

no. you shouldnt have to. if you deleted anything from the nv2.8 you will have to again. but thats about it.

Yeah, sorry. My bad. I was trying to do too many things at once and misspoke. Sc 2.8 includes the kernel, not the modem. If you were already running a sc version of 2.0 or higher you should already have the EB01 modem. If you are upgrading to any EB01voodoo build including the sc versions from DI01, DJ05, DL09, DL30, or EA28, you will need to flash the EB01 modem.

Lady Android has spoken... the EB16 kernel didn't want to enable lagfix, so I flashed the EB01 instead. Quadrant before Voodoo was 953, running it now, just came back at 1437!

Very simple to follow using Gunner's How-To. Phone seems snappier than before, I'll give it a day and see.

To elaborate on this I had flashed SuperClean 2.8 Voodoo and had the EB16 Kernel. My bluetooth was not working. Thanks to Landshark / GunnerMike53 who pointed me to a missed post about bluetooth being broken in EB16. Because of this I flashed EB01 Voodoo Kernel ONLY from Adrynalyne's thread and BAM my bluetooth worked.

Then I saw people posting stating they were using EB16 and bluetooth worked for them. At this point I went to CWM Recovery and re-flashed the Superclean 2.8 Voodoo version I originally flashed as it includes the ROM and EB16 Kernel. After reboot my bluetooth was still working.

To me it seems like EB16 Bluetooth is broken however if you flash the EB01 Kernel then the Superclean 2.8 Voodoo to overwrite that Kernel whatever makes bluetooth work in EB01 does not get overwritten.

I could be wrong but that is my thoughts

Good thoughts regardless of right or wrong.

EB16 did not let me enable lagfix, so I had no choice but to use the EB01 kernel. I have read that I should be able to flash the EB16 kernel now and have it work with no issues. It seems to me like one kernel may jump start the other??

Now my question, can I flash SC2.9 over SC2.8 and just re-enable lagfix after the flash and before the re-boot?

Thanks to you all, the Voodoo experience has been quite painless!

i posted this in the superclean forum, but was told it may in fact be a voodoo issue and not an issue with the rom. since i upgraded from sc 2.6v to sc 2.8v and now to sc 2.9v, i have a constant vibrating issue (like when a program crashes). it happened on 2.8 and it's now continuing with 2.9. i also have half the programs working and half crashing. does anyone have any idea why the vibrating is happening and what i can do to stop it? thanks!
