How to Voodoo ***Updated 27 Mar 2011***KERNEL BUILT FROM SOURCE/SOUND/UNDERVOLTED

Not out of the woods yet it appears. I am having issue with bluetooth posted in the kernels themes roms thread.

But VooDoo is on and working GREAT! :D

I have the second kernel on my phone but I flashed the ROM / Kernel one last.

Good idea I'll flash the other kernel he posted.

Can't get lagfix to take. What the heck?

I've never had issues with voodoo before, but I flashed the full stock dl01 odin from 2.6v, then flashed full 2.8nv in odin. Went in and installed the voodoo kernel, and then tried to enable lagfix before rebooting. No lady android. I even tried downloading the full 2.8v and installing it. I can't get lagfix to take.

It shows enabled when I go back in to check the settings, but quadrant scores are sub 1000's. So disappointing. Any thoughts?

I remember reading something about this at XDA and Adrynalyne has also noted the EB16 kernel is not allowing lag fix to be enabled. To get around this people at XDA were installing the 2.8 voodoo ROM with the EB01 kernel, enabling lag fix then, rebooting, you should hear lady droid voice. Boot back to recovery and flash the EB16 kernel and lag fix should stay enabled. No need to go into advanced menu and enable it again. I think the info was in Adrynalyne's old huge superclean thread that is now closed. You can go to XDA and check the last 4 or 5 pages of that thread to verify if you want.

I was using the E: error blah blah blah one, and thought that may have been it, so I flashed the cw all from xda - it's the one that doesn't give those errors (new red, I believe) in odin.

Anyway - I hope that's all it is - just a kernel issue. Landshark - does the EB01 that Adryn put up, have the built in dummy wifi tether. If so, are kernels ok to just flash over top of each other without a removal process?

Thanks, guys. Yeah - I know how lagfix works - I'm just frustrated not having it do what it's supposed to.

Sorry I forgot to also answer these questions in my last post. No, the EB01 does not include dummy tethering, but read my last post for the solution. Kernels are ok to flash over each other without a removal process.

Flashed eb16_2 for voodoo. Still the same.

Suicide, did you see Adrynalyne's and my response to this same problem over in DXC's ODIN thread? Adrynalyne has said bluetooth will not work with the EB16 kernel. He said to flash the EB01 kernel, but then you will not have the dummy tethering of the EB16 kernel if that is important to you. Looks like for now you will have to make a choice as to which is more important, wifi tethering with EB16 kernel or bluetooth with EB01 kernel.

sorry i must have missed this post. adrynalyne has alternative kernels that should fix this. they are in post one of the superclean thread.

I had probably read it. With the amount of information I have been absorbing this past week however I think that it might have gotten squeezed down my spine. :D

OK maybe you guys can give me a better understanding of EB01 and EB16.

I thought EB16 Kernel was a merge of the EB01 Kernel and some other non samsung kernel? This is why I always went with EB16 as I wanted the other functionality that was merged into it.

So you are telling me that the only difference between EB01 and EB16 is wifi tethering (which I don't do) and Bluetooth?

You are correct that the EB16 kernel is a merging of two. Adrynalyne explains it in the FAQ section he added to his OP in this thread. EB16 is actually a Froyo build for the Samsung Mesmerize for US Cellular. Both the Fascinate and Mesmerize have the model number of SCH-I500. Adrynalyne has found from testing what members were telling him that the EB16 kernel breaks bluetooth ability, but it supplies the possible wifi tethering ability. So if you don't do wifi tethering and want Bluetooth, you should flash through CWM the EB01 kernel Adrynaline has in the first post in this thread.

as far as the kernel, yeah that the only differance. most of the hybrid stuff is in the rom not the kernel.

OK I flashed EB01 and yes bluetooth is now working. Here is why I have confusion. From Adrynalyne's post:

Q: Is superclean based on EB01?

A: Not entirely. Since 2.6, it has been a mixture. EA15, and EB16 are test roms meant for USCC. In many ways, they are superior, but we cannot use them directly. So I parted them out.

Most apps were EB16. This includes the bluetooth functions. All hardware, touchwiz, maps, and obex framework is from EB16. The rest of the framework is from EB01. The car dock application is from EA15.
Many of the audio libs are from EB16, as well as some audio configurations kept in /system/etc.

I took this to mean that bluetooth was part of EB16. I guess after this exercise I read it more clearly to state that the bluetooth function was part of EB16 so he parted those apps into his superclean ROM?

I see how that could be confusing. You just have to read the forums as much as I do and catch the posts where Adrynalyne addresses different issues.

To be honest I am getting the hang of this better. I just started researching last week. Last week I was on stock bloated verizon phone :)

I have read the posts that describe what a kernel rom modem etc are more than once. Until I run into issues however I won't get a fully deep understanding of them such as this issue here.

This just made me understand some additional differences between a ROM and a Kernel that I was fuzzy on before.

Thanks gunnermike53 and Landshark for helping me out. I'll get more knowledge and a better understanding as time goes on.

You're welcome Suicide. Things will become clearer the more you read and try things out on your phone. And hey, maybe you can be like me. One month from complete dummy who couldn't get his phone rooted without DroidXcon holding my hand, to partial dummy who does his best to help as many people as he can here. It's all about paying it forward to repay the help you received.

You know it. I have already tried out a bunch of things and resolved a good amount on my own from reading these forums. At some point all the information however can become confusing. It will take some time.

I even bricked this bad boy and was able to bring it back reading gunnermik53's posts here on the first page.

Don't Panic - was good first step :)

hey killyourself, if you wanna good laugh, go read mine and sharksters older posts.

I'm not sure if Brettdcosta got voodoo figured out, but you were all on the right track. I had the same issue with 2.8 lag fix not taking. I flashed the EBO1 voodoo kernel and then enabled the lag fix. After I did that I was able to flash the EB16 kernel and it took just fine. Everything is running great and I have seen improved battery life.

Good for you. Glad to hear another success story.

That CWM is one messed up puppy IMO as I was able to get EB16 to work per my lengthy post... :-\

We needs a new CWM :D

However the breaking of bluetooth in EB16 is what had me go to EB01.
