How's the update?

So far so good EXCEPT for data issue. I think it's worse with 5 or 6 airplane mode/battery pulls today to get data back. First data loss was within 20 minutes of installing the update (and yes, after a battery pull)

Edit: And I had a black screen of death earlier today as well after the update. Guess it's time to push for a new phone.

I did the update today and still have the 4G/3G data problem. I called Verizon this evening and they are sending me a new phone. Its sort of a pain in the @ss, but hopefully this will work. I have read that others, like me, who bought the phone on day one are more prone to havong hardware problems.

Got the update. Tried installing but keep getting the "installation failed" message after reboot. Defrosted all apps and even did a factory reset. Still getting the same error. What the hell am I missing here?

I'm in the same boat as you.

I downloaded the update this morning and have had the data drop out a couple times already. I will give it a few days to see if it gets better. Funny thing is last week when verizon had the 4g outage and then came back online it seemed like I had less data drops since then.

3g to 4g handoff is alot better. But I am having for the first time ever random reboots, I froze 2 tethering apps as I am leaning towrds them being the issue, but if they are not the issue it must be the update. I work in a fringe 4g area and I am no better at getting 4g now as then I was before the update.

updated this morning. still having data issues, had to either use airplane mode and/reboot 3 times.

still got black screen.

the camera, however, is phenomenal.

I have a Day 1 phone with the update but I'm still getting the headphone wine. Is anyone else having this problem? That's my only complaint about the update. Everything else seems to work great now - 3g/4g handoff & connectivity, scrolling speed, battery life, camera all are improvements. I'm debating calling VZW and having them send me a phone with the latest HW version. I listen to A LOT of music on phone.

Here goes my update attempt... I was rooted and had Ti backup freeze many apps but I defrosted everything an unrooted -- So it should be perfect right? I'll let you know the outcome momentarily.

I'm afraid to do the update. there are TONS of negative comments about the update, at the Moto site. I have a phone that works great and don't want to chance that the update will screw it up. However, I get nagged every few hours by the phone, to do the update. GRRR!!!!

Seems to be fine! Camera is much faster.
I am attempting to root it now - I cannot stand all the stupid apps Verizon loads.

I can't find a way to root it now - R3L3AS3DRoot claims to work but it doesn't on my Bionic.
Just a minor annoyance if the phone works better, I chose this instead of the Nexus because of the SD card option. I was beginning to think I made a horrible mistake but maybe not...we will see.

I can't tell you directly how to do it, but I know you can rename the update file with root explorer if you are rooted. The phone will ignore it after that. I believe you just add .bak to the end of the file.

Just out of curiosity, do the folks who are still having problems post-update have early hardware revs of the phone (launch phones)? Based on what I'm seeing in the forums across several sites, it seems like the people still having problems are the ones who bought their phone on launch day or very close. People who bought their phones recently are not having the issues these people are still having post-update.

I picked my phone up on Day 1 of release. Since the update, I've not had anything but 3G, despite being in a pretty strong 4G area. New phone is arriving tomorrow. My girlfriend picked her phone up 4 or 5 days later, but seems to be having the same issue.

I wonder about this.

I bought mine on launch day and I've rarely experienced many problems with my phone. It locked/rebooted when connected to HDMI and sometimes the screen went momentarily black while playing fruit ninja but other than that, not too many problems.

How many people who are having problems now had problems before?

Makes me honestly wonder if we simply have a number of phones that have manufacturing defects (read: lemon) that would only manifest in certain situations that a typical post-production sweep would not detect?
