[Howto] Get to ED01 (Official Froyo) Quickly

I'm having trouble with the DL09 download. It randomly stops at different intervals and says it has completed (28Mb and 126Mb downloaded). Are there any other alternate downloads?

Edit: Is this the same DL09 as posted in the OP?

Ya i had that same issue as well, perhaps too many people downloading it at that time. It took me 3 tries till it followed through completely without any interruptions. Droidxcon's "How To Return to Stock for Froyo Update" only provides the DI01.tar package, its an earlier version than DL09.

Either DI01 or DL09 will work perfectly fine in order to return to complete stock and upgrade to Froyo via the OTA update. So if you are having trouble downloading one or the other don't be afraid to try each download. It won't matter either way as either of those stock builds allow you to OTA the update. :)

That's what I figured but wasn't sure.

To be safe, (if you haven't already gone through the motions and have Froyo already) be sure to backup at least your contacts, because flashing back to DI01 or DL09 will wipe everything, apps and all. I personally don't care to backup my apps or much else as I just redownload them from the market which takes hardly any time.

I have stuff I want backed up...I am however running into a problem flashing EA28 after going to DI01. I get the following error "assert failed: file_getprop("/system/build.prop", "ro.build.fingerprint") == "verizon/sch-I500/schI500:2.1-update1/eclair/DL09:user/release-keys" || file_getprop("/system/build.prop", "ro.build.fingerprint") == "verizon/sch-I500/schI500:2.1-update1/eclair/EA28:user/release-keys"

E: error in /sdcard/update.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted

Any ideas?

its because that update will only update you from DL09 to EA28 , either wait till you recieve OTA or flash up to DL09 since you are clean from DI01

Ok. I didn't know if I could go to EA28 from DI01. I was having trouble downloading DL09.

This works like a charm. After I got the ED01 update, I flashed DroidxCon's CWM-ALL through ODIN and then flashed Adryn's Debloated/Deodexed ED01. Wonderful. Everything seems as good as usual. Now I only need an updated 6 Locksreen with reboot options and accurate battery and I am set. But I can wait

Just flash a theme if you want the 6 lockscreen and accurate battery etc.
I used the newest honeycomb and it everything is there but others may have different results

also just a FYI for some when doing Adry's steps don't rename the update downloads for EA28 or ED01 b/c when you boot into recovery. Just keep them as update.zip, do the update, log back into phone and move second download to SD card and apply that update.
I tried a few shortcuts and ran into a few problems but got it all worked out.
Just a FYI for anyone else with similar issue

Well, things got a bit more interesting for me. Last night after I declared success, I started seeing some strange little glitches ... Gmail crashed, wallpapers wouldn't show up, and then almost all of my shortcuts disappeared from Launcher Pro. I rebooted to see if that would help, and discovered that I was locked out of my own phone: it wouldn't accept my password. (It's theoretically possible that I mistyped it twice when setting it, but how likely is that?)

I think maybe my problem was that I indiscriminately restored EVERYTHING (all apps and system data) through Titanium Backup. I'm guessing some of my system settings from SC2.9.2 weren't 100% compatible with ED01.

So this morning I went through the process again (DI01, OTA, root), and now I'm being much more selective in what I restore from backup and what I reinstall fresh. I don't think I'll try that "restore everything" option again ... it's probably not a good idea when changing ROMs.

Oh, and I tried freezing Bing with Titanium Backup. It worked, but not in the way I was hoping; it made the Search key completely nonfunctional (I was hoping it would end up defaulting to Google). I guess I'll wait for a better method, because I prefer having a functional Search key -- even if it goes to Bing!

Correct....I stated that in my first post. The EA28 update.zip file will not run with the stock recovery in DL09. I did try it with clockwork recovery also...just to see...it errored out with that loaded also.

** UPDATE** - After spending the majority of the day yesterday messing around with my Fascinate...none of the ways posted worked for my Fascinate. I tried going back to DI01 and OTA....OTA failed everytime with an IP error of some sort. I tried OTA from the DL09 package from Adrynalyne...OTA did not work and neither did the update.zip method from the SD card. I believe that some of these fascinates (mine included) just aren't going to take any updates OTA or with update.zip files from the SD card. So...I reverted to the stock EB01 build and flashed the modem to EC01...seems to work well...as the EC01 modem appears to be better than the EB01 modem. (at least for me).

Anyhow...with that said...I'm going to wait it out for these fine gentleman like DroidXCon, Adrynalyne and other super-troopers who help us love our Android phones work it out and come up with a full stock ED01 ODIN package. That seems to be the only sure-fire way to get code onto my phone for some reason.

Anyone else having similar issues to me...I recommend the same...revert to an odin version that works for you...and wait it out. :)

Thanks to everyone for their efforts...you guys rock! :)

I am running the second version of the rom, the DEBINGED version and IT IS GONE! And the search key works beautifully. Although, the same issue persists in doing voice commands from EB01. I say call my wife's name and it does a google search. I also "Freeze" apps with Bloat Freezer. The best app for freezing and a lot cheaper than Titanium Backup.

Will the themes work with ED01? MOst of them are based off of EB01 or even EC01.

I'm pretty positive that themes will work with ED01.

Since the EC01 is the same build as ED01, even though the name doesn't prove it. And most, if not all, EB01 themes worked with EC01.

Most the themes should work. I have tested and confirmed for another member that the EB01 accurate battery mod (modified framework-res.apk) does work on ED01. Most other mods should work as well since there aren't any major differences from EB01/EC01. The only issue I can report on right now is that CWM Recovery doesn't stick on the official build. You can get into it with the 3 button boot directly after you flash in Odin, but once you boot the system, trying to go back to recovery (both manual power down and 3 button and adb reboot recovery command) takes you back to the stock recovery. It does stick with the deodexed ED01 ROM though.

What's the consensus? Do the OTA or wait it out for a rom? I have the time to mess around, if needed.
