[Howto] Get to ED01 (Official Froyo) Quickly

Thanks so much for you help! You and all on this forum are so great to respond and help us novices.

I think I'm about ready to jump... :p

Hey sharky, how is your battery in ec01

Don't have a clue. Have to keep tearing apart my setup to build the ODIN packages or recreate someone's steps for troubleshooting. After I get done with the ODIN packages I am going to follow Adryalyne's steps to get to official ED01 to get the ED01 radio, then go to community rom. When I was using the EC01 radio for about 2 weeks, it was pretty good. Had no problem making it through a full day unless I really got into some heavy usage.

I went from EC01 straight to the community rom. I wasn't too happy with the radio so i thought i would go back to dl09 and work my way back up getting the official ed01 to get the modem. However now i am on dl09 and i cant boot into recovery. I flashed cwm using odin and it still wont let me flash into recovery. Any advice on what i should do?

What do you mean by you are not able to flash into recovery? What are you doing and what is happening when you do it?

so is this process how u get the OTA ED01 update before u reroot ? im already on the COM ROM but gps is pretty off and im hearing good about the ED01 so figured go all the way back and get the ED01 OTA just making sure

Brain fart...please ignore that ridiculously stupid post...i was pressing the up volume button but not the down one...once again...please disregard...its been a long day

Flashed the DLO9 via ODIN succesfully..Rebooted to phone..Put EA28.zip on sd-card and booted to recovery..IN.BLUE RECOVERY....only options: Reboot, apply from sdcard: update.zip...wipe cahe..wipe data.. I select apply from sdcard:update.zip..and it aborts every time.. I have read in this thread that others had the same problem, but never found an answer aside from OTA to ED01..

I have redownloaded the EA28 update.zip once, and repeated process (except for flashing DL09 via ODIN) ..

Should I have booted directly to recovery from the DL09 ODIN, and applied the update.zip?

What am I missing?

Thanks in advance

did you rename the file EA28.zip? If so, that is your problem... it needs to stay on your SD as update.zip or the command prompt will not recognize it

Negative..it's update.zip..thinking about just OTA'ing it to Froyo then rooting, flashing Kang Bang...on top..then I'll have the ED01 radio.. wanted to give it a try..

What option are you clicking in recovery?

So.. I jumped.. here's my experience.

I downloaded the EA28 and ED01 update.zip files ... and since they both needed to be on the SC card I renamed them EA28-update.zip & ED01-update.zip.

I did the ODIN to DL09 - went smooth.

Then I rebooted and brought up my device - checked the about device and confirmed I was at DL09. Then used the 'My Files' app to browse the SD card - renamed EA28-update.zip to update.zip.

Powered down - then booted into the stock (blue) recovery and down volume to update from sd card update.zip. That was very quick.

Rebooted the device again - went to about device and confirmed I had EA28 - used 'My File' app to rename update.zip back to EA28-update.zip and then renamed ED01-update.zip to update.zip.

Powered down - booted into blue recovery - did the update.zip option. Took a bit longer (larger file).

Reboot the device and confirmed I was on DL01:
Hardware version I500.04
Firmware version: 2.2.1
Baseband version: S:1500.04 V.ED01
Kernel version: 2.6.32.9
Build number: SCH-I1500.ED01

I've ended up doing this twice (I tried the community ROM and went back).

It's worked excellent both times.

So.. next ... I tried the community ROM and just didn't like the theme. - Just personal preference - the devs have all done a GREAT JOB!

I'm thinking of staying on the Stock (Official) ED01 version on this thread for now.

a couple of questions?

Can I flash a voodoo kernel over this Official version?

Can I flash a theme over this Official version?

or.. do I need to flash a custom ROM first?

Thanks bros, but i've given up with this method at this point.. There must be something wrong with the download or some way I am transferring the .zip to the sdcard..I am 42% the way through OTA Froyo...I then plan to flash imnuts stock ED01 ROM and KERNEL ODIN package, (leaves radio alone, which is why I'm doing this anyway).. Flash CWM via ODIN.. then put kangbang on my sdcard and flash it.. woof..

Im pretty sure you dont even need to odin imnuts package just go straight to comm rom....I could be wrong on this but just seems like an extra step, what is your reasoning for doing that?

I was going to do that to restablish Root..wasn't sure if you can run Clockwork red without root user....but I guess you can.. so thinking about it I'll just flash up my way on up to KANG BANG (this is a way better name imho, and I don't like that people call it comm romm.. boring.. KANG BANG!)

Thanks for the insight Big J

You may be able to flash a voodoo kernel, but you will not be able to flash a theme. You must have a deodexed ROM to run a theme.

Do you have a link for the 'imnuts stock ED01 ROM and KERNEL ODIN package'.

Thanks

It's another thread right here in the Rooting, ROMs, and Hacks section. Just look for it. It may have been pushed to page 2 but it is definitely here in the first two pages.
