HOWTO: WiFi Tethering - Working!

I have it installed, and I can see the connection from my laptop, and connect to it, but the first time it said I had no internet, then I restarted and it shows in my network and sharing center that I have internet, but I can't actually load any webpages.

Are there some security settings I need to set up in the tethering software, or something I need to set in my laptop? It never prompted for a wep/wpa key or anything along those lines.

EDIT: Never mind, I uninstalled it, then reinstalled, and didn't touch any settings or anything, and was able to connect first shot, and had internet. I then changed the settings so I could set some security, and it too worked fine. Now everything is as it should be.

I just got this working after about 30 minutes of trying. For anyone that isn't able to get this working, open this thread on your phone and use the link the op posted for the wireless tether app. The one in the market doesn't work on my epic. Only takes a minute to get this working (longer if not rooted) if you download the apk from the link directly onto your phone.

Has anyone experienced problems with secure sites when using this app? It seems to work like a champ for regular http sites, but I've had issues accessing secure sites via the connected client. This was one of the complaints I had with similar BT/USB tethering software like PDANet, because they required the purchase of a paid version to access any secure sites. I haven't seen anything on this one that would indicate similar "restrictions" - but also haven't had luck with secure sites.

Have not been able to tether my laptop to the phone. My XP laptop can't connect to it at all. My Vista laptop can connect to it but then can't seem to get an ip address from the phone. However, my ipod touch seems to connect just fine. It gets an ip address and everything works fine.

Any ideas why one works and the other doesn't.

Is there a way to hide the SSID? I want to run this at work but don't want it to be public.

I don't think you can hide it, but you can put a password on it through the settings.

Found a solution to make it work.

For everybody who's been having problems getting tethering to work, try this. I finally got this wifi tether to work on my windows vista laptop. Previously my laptop could see the ad-hoc network and connect to it, but it would never obtain an ip address. Thus I could never get on the internet. I had to go into the tcp/ip setting of my wifi adapter and uncheck ipv6. Once I did that my laptop was able to obtain an ip and I was finally up and running.

Hope this helps.
