you can set the default tab by yourself. You can rearrange them all. just long pressone of the tabs.
Now that I've had mine for a few days, here's my take (compared to my last phone, Moto Droid Turbo):
Just to set things up - I use Nova Prime, I have a clear tpu case on it with a screen protector.
Build is sleek and clean. Love everything about the design, including the buttons (the phone is going to have a bezel at the bottom regardless, so why not use that space rather than on-screen buttons? just my 2 cents)
Screen is MUCH brighter, and is set at about medium with Auto-brightness checked. Had zero issues seeing the screen in direct sunlight with polarized glasses one. I was a passenger and was holding the phone using Navigation. I purposely held it in the sunlight to see if it mattered, and tried both portrait and landscape without issues. Not sure why there's so much negativity about it, as I saw it clearly.
Super, duper fast. Hit a button, boom, it responds.
Camera takes nice pics, when it decides it wants to focus. Not sure why this is a problem, but my old Moto did this on occasion too.
Battery life is ok. Maybe I am used to the Turbo's much larger battery, but since it's new, I will have to give it more time to settle in to really judge.
Fingerprint sensor is lightning fast and awesome to have.
Not a fan of the blinking LED. I much prefer the Moto display of notifications, but I guess I will get used to it. (not interested in their Ice case)
I added different apps to the Sense Home dock for quick access to things like SMS, Camera and flashlight, since the motion activated features from Moto are now gone.
My biggest complaint is the phone's inability to recognize I am driving and read my incoming texts out loud. I know there are some apps available, but so far, I have tried a few and they just simply aren't as good as what Moto has.

I like Google's Dialer/Phone app. It is a separate app from the People/Contacts app.

what are you talking about. I still have m9 and make side by side comparison and the 10 sounds far better and louder.

Oh, the new keyboard has themes. It's just that they're TouchPal themes that you download from the Google Play Store. Speaking of, was anyone else kinda blown away that that's the keyboard HTC decided to ship with?

I was surprised. Given how closely they've stayed to stock Android, the Google keyboard seems a more logical choice.

How is the battery life overall at this point? I've read varying reports which makes me skittish.
This is not an easy question to answer, unless you find someone who uses the same apps as you, and uses the phone the same as you use it. Maybe I use it all day for navigation, so I'll tell you battery life sucks. Maybe you play games on it all day, and think battery life is fair. Maybe someone else rarely looks at their phone while they're at work, so the battery lasts all day. Really, this is an impossible thing to answer as everyone will have a different opinion. Coming from the huge battery on my Droid Turbo, I would say this is ok...so far. But I've only had it for a dew days and I am adjusting settings, loading and updating apps, discovering new things, etc. It will probably get better, but I won't know for maybe another week. Even then, I'm betting you can't find another person in this forum that matches your app list and usage pattern to tell you what you will experience.
I am seeing an improvement over my M8. I can't give you hard and fast numbers yet though. Subjectively, its better.
I don't need specifics. I know ymmv from mine. I am a moderate user mainly looking at the web, texting, light on videos and some gaming and looking at news, some navigation and Bluetooth with music. Again, pretty moderate usage.
One of the other things l like about the phone is the size. A little bigger than my old M8 but not insanely sized for giants. I would have been happy even if it was the same size as the M7 with the level of quality it has shown so far. In terms of size the M7 was perfect for me. Just perfect. One of the apps I miss is the old Data monitor on the M8, which allowed me to set data warnings, etc. I wish I could find that particular app again, I liked it on my old AT&T M8. I DO NOT miss all the other bloatware though. Especially no Carrier IQ on this phone.
Can anyone compare it to an S7, N6P or iPhone 6s? I've had or have those phones.
I just wish i could go to "grid view" on the recent app button. They only allow "card view". Checked with htc support and they think marshmallow doesn't support "grid view"
