HTC 10 vs. Samsung Galaxy S7

I have had wireless charging for three years. Meh. I am one of the "don't really care". Also heat is the enemy of battery life so if you don't recycle phones like underwear its something to think about.

For me hooking up a quick charger (possible heat issue within itself; we will see) and getting 50% in 30 minutes is ok by me. But thats me and my .02.

I think the newer wireless chargers handle heat decently (I'm using the one Samsung gave away with the S7), although I do think the older ones kind of sucked (I had an old square Samsung one for my Note 4, and I think it and quick charge ruined the battery).

I'm a little more paranoid about battery heat now, but I also can upgrade my phone every year, so I'm okay with it.

I think the issue with the 10 not being "better" than the S7 actually has nothing to do with what you or I think about the phone (it seems great), but more about the overall public perception of HTC and their phones. At this point Samsung has the vast majority of the Android mindshare among non-Android nerds (the average iOS or Android user who just wants the hot new phone), and so combined with Samsung's massive ad campaigns, nothing short of "better" will sway people to HTC's camp. And given how badly they've been doing the last couple years, they really need people to join their camp.

I hope the 10 really does put them in the upswing, but I worry that it'll get lost in the S7's dust.

HTC can be successful, but they can't make the same mistakes they've been making. At this point, you can't skimp on the audio if you're HTC so that'll always be on the cost sheet. LCD displays with subpar viewing angles and sunlight performance don't help so opening up the wallet to improve that is a must. They're on the right track with their camera and camera software so I think improvements there will happen. Their build quality never seems to suffer anymore, but finding a way to keep the excellence they've had while making it different is key. M7-10 have all looked basically the same.

A good way to separate yourself is to go big on battery life. 3000 mah on a 9mm phone when you claim 2 days of usage is just...dumb. Everything else they do is great, but it's hard to choose the 10 if you're a normal consumer when phones like the S7 have wireless charging, IP ratings, Samsung Pay, etc. So I guess you either go big on the display/camera/performance/battery and add in things like the headphones (and don't skip out on the US with that) or you undercut them price-wise.

Either way, this is so much better of a year for them because the 10 isn't going to be dismissed immediately like the M9 was. If they can sell enough of these to gain some momentum, next year could be the year they can really make some noise.

They are both great phones. But there are too many people using iPhones and Galaxy S. HTC 10 is a great alternative.

The choice between the S7 and 10 is definitely an interesting one. The 10 looks way better and it does have those awesome audio credentials but I'd miss wireless charging and water resistance is a good perk. But that glass back is horrid...and HTC's Sense is the better pick I think. It's a tough choice for sure.
I agree on most of those. I would like waterproof-ness, but my M8 wasn't waterproof and survived several submersions so I don't know how much I need full waterproofing.
The back glass was not a winner for me either and I didn't like the look or feel in person. Strange because I loved the S7 in pics. Neither did I like the GIU. Sense FTW.
Wireless I don't want because I wouldn't put docks around my house.
Audio, huge plus for me.
The one hold-out for me was the cam and although the reviews were mixed in the first couple days of announcement as everyone rushed to review. It seems that the reviews are shifting in the other direction now though. I found 2 new reviews in the last day that score it as having a better cam.

Problem is, I haven't been able to use it to see if it lives up to expectation. In fact, it's not even about S7 vs 10 anymore as I would keep my M8 before going S7. I should wait to see if the 10 gives me enough reasons to move everything over to a new phone (a process which I hate).

big fan of htc, had m8 and m7 before... but s7 its really nice

the things i wanted updated:
-camera
-battery life

all other things were fine on my m8 (had 6.01 after all)

havent look back yet

Do hope HTC does well with the 10 and their other phones.

I jumped at the opportunity of an S7E before the HTC 10 official announcement. I probably would pick the S7E today anyway but it is good news that the 10 is a great phone. Had the M8 and it was so-so, lead me to turn my back on the M9.

And that my friend is exactly why it is great to have HTC back in the game. To make it a tough choice. AC just posted a HTC 10 v iPhone 6 comparison and they pour glowing praise on the HTC 10 and state that it is up there with Sammy and Apple. So many people complaining that it's not an Apple or Sammy killer because it is not BETTER than those phones in certain areas..only on par! Don't understand where these people are coming from to be honest. It will get harder and harder to have one phone that is just head and shoulders above another flagship phone. I really don't care if the HTC camera doesn't blow the Sammy camera out the ball park! It's right up their with it though. It's better in certain areas (low light) and on par in other areas. Sure the HTC camera has some minor issues but I believe they will be addressed in future updates, so it can only get better :)

For me at least, what is great is that this phone should put HTC back into the game. There are several good to great reviews coming out and that's what they needed, at least to start. How well it actually sells is another matter altogether. I just hope it sells well enough that we see a HTC 11 :)

HTC did a great job with HTC 10. Yes it cannot be head and shoulder above iPhone and Galaxy server. But if we look into HTC, they were struggling for last 3-4 years, despite having great phones like HTC One M8 & M9. M10 is their last ditch effort to stay in the competition. If it sells well, its successors definitely will provide huge competition to Sammy in Android Market. Lets wait for the actual release and review to see what his great gadget brings. I own an iPhone 6S plus but I am tempted by this device, and in future can think of using this gadget as a secondary device

I was a big fan of the M7 mainly because of the quality all metal construction. Up to that time, Samsung was putting out phones that had a lot of plastic and that just didn't seem very high quality. I switched to the Galaxy S6 last year after Samsung improved their construction with metal frame and glass build, and I've been loving it. I even like the lite Touchwiz interface. But at this point I would probably upgrade to an S7 over the HTC 10 because the S7 seems to have more features which I've grown to like (Samsung Pay, wireless charging, heart rate monitor, IR blaster, great rear camera etc). Still, I'll be checking out the HTC 10 when it arrives at my local store to see I can be swayed!

I have the S7 and love it. My fiance has the m8. It has been her first Android phone in years after owning a 4s, 5, and 5s. She is pondering switching to the 10, switch to the S7edge, or just keep her m8. Honestly if I were her, id keep the m8 until it fell apart. Marshmallow on the m8 has basically transformed it. Phenomenal battery life and all the benefits of Android 6. She considers the s7edge her option because it's closest in physical size to her m8, to my surprise.

HTC really needs to advertise the crap out of this phone. And i find this is where they have always lacked. They really can't match the Samsung marketing machine but they need to do better. I really think the m8 and m9 would have sold better if they advertised it more/better. I still haven't seen a single ad for the 10 outside of these tech sites. And honestly if it weren't for me, I doubt my fiance would have even known the 10 was coming out. Meanwhile Samsung has been advertising the crap out of the S7 line a month before mwc. I genuinely like HTC and really root for them. They finally have a phone that's making people notice. Now get to selling it.

This to a 'T'. While I am considering a S7e...I am one that is "enough already, I get it. You have a new phone and you think its awesome" in regard to over the head and saturation advertising. That being said HTC could do quite a bit more to promote it.

Apple and Samsung have a lot of funds that they use for Advertising and marketing their products. Their have a gigantic marketing engine. On the other hand HTCs revenue has been declining for last 2-3 years. 10 is their last hope to climb the ladder

This is good comparison review. She's one of my favorite reviewer. Seems camera and battery life are getting mixed between two phones depending on reviewer though differences are not any significant. One thing I noticed here is S7 screen looks quite brighter (both at manual max).

For what it's worth, the S7 doesn't have an IR blaster, unfortunately. It's one of the few things I miss from my Note 4. Too bad, too, because I used to use my phone as a remote all the time.

According to phonearena size compare, the HTC 10 is almost exactly the same size as the M8. The S7 Edge is slightly larger.

I think that's the biggest reason it's tough for me to recommend the 10 over the S7. The Edge isn't much bigger than the 10 at all. In fact, it's about the same width, it's thinner, and it's only marginally taller. In-hand, I would imagine the Edge is easier to hold given the curves/thinness. So even though it's relatively the same size, it boasts a larger battery that absolutely trumps the battery life on the 10 and a larger display. That's going to be the difference for a lot of people.

True. I have the edge. But holding it can be a pain at times with those edges! I don't have big hands at all but find that my hands wrap around to the edges that causes the phone to do things I really didn't want it to do, or other taps are not responsive because part of my hand is already on the edge.

On AT&T, their recent update yesterday seems to have helped with that. T-Mobile got the same update not too long ago, too. It's hard not to make that happen, though.
