My wife just got the Note 5 and I was blown away at the sound reproduction, much better than my beloved HTC m8 but then it is two years old! Being a sound nut I have been looking at which android phone I should get next and have also been impressed with the reviews and reports of LG V10 and LG G5 DAC add-on. In a perfect world I will probably get the M10, as but as an audiophile if it lags behind the LG and others sound wise then I will sadly consider other brands. I feel that HTC shouldn't get complacent with regard to sound as this is one area along with sense software that given them positive marketing. I can't wait for them to 'one up' Samsung and LG with regard to sound reproduction. Let the battle begin! What do others think would you consider other brands if they fail to take the lead with regard to quality of audio?

I don't want to buy a G5 and then spend another 80 bucks or so for ideal sound. As much as I enjoy great sound, I don't know if it would be as much of a deal breaker as a bad camera.

I have never had front facing speakers or boom sound. I am very curious. However I am also 1/2 deaf so not sure its awesomeness will not be lost on me. LOL!

My HTC BoomBass is ready to go. I'm curious why folks think that they're both front facing on the M10. The HTC twitter pic made it look like the 'top' speaker is the standard BoomSound speaker, however the bottom speaker looked to be a grill type that I would think would be next to the charging port on the bottom edge. (That was my take away from the photo.)

Again stereo speakers was/is another thing that made HTC stand out from the crowd. If they get rid of it then, then for me the m10 will have make up for that in quality of headphone sound reproduction. All the M10 leaks I have seen so far actually look kinda boring too me... unless the M10 does something amazing as an audiophile I'm leaning towards the g5, although I would admittedly miss the simplicity of sense software but feel all of the launchers are becoming pretty samey these days...

G5 is getting a lot of mixed reviews and the DAC add on might not even be available in north America because of FCC issues? I remember when the HTC M8 was released most of the reviews were favourable and it was the best phone you could buy for a good few months....G5 apparently had some quality build issues and battery is average...tis a shame...I think I'll wait for HTC 10 before making my mind up...

As much as I enjoyed the front speakers on my m8 I wouldn't trade my v10 even though it's speaker pales by comparison and it's through my head phones and ear buds that the sound is better than anything else available, to go back to the sound quality or picture quality on it.

The camera is simply amazing too... That being said, I am still rooting for HTC to outdo everyone else.. I don't think that they will.. but I am hopeful...

I find it funny that everyone is worried about the sound when the recorded music is recorded like crap then compressed to more crap then equalized to even more crap. Serious audiophiles should have another stand alone music player.

I am more interested in how loud and clear it is. I couldn't believe how much louder the 6P is vs the M9. It is quiet in comparison. The IP68 on the M10 makes me think the overall volume will be dull. The M9 was already not as loud as the M8. Let's see if the 10 is at least as loud as the 6P.

It's not about how loud the speakers are at all. What you listed doesn't even matter to anyone who listens to music or watches shows on a phone. It's about clarity and overall sound quality in general. Who wants speakers that are too loud, crackling, and you can't understand the song or words from a movie being spoken? As I stated before its not about how loud the speakers are on a phone. If you need speakers that loud you need to either get a soundbar for your phone or buy a hearing aide.

If you actually read the very first line. I said loud and CLEAR. I actually don't need the volume and clarity for music or shows. I never watch shows on my phone and I rarely listen to music over the loud speaker. I do however own a home with a garage and a backyard and I like setting the phone down nearby and listen to podcasts as I do work around the house. I also use it as my speakerphone in my car and GPS navigation. I could also set the M8 on my bathroom counter and hear it in the shower. The M9 isn't loud enough.

IP68 Muted the S7 a bit per the Sammy users that had S6's. Its a trade off...however I do need my speaker clarity and volume too. I to a lot of speaker phone work helping customers at 3am. :-/

And I agree with GPS. When I travel for work my phone is my GPS. Muffled would be bad. But not sure how you would get IP68 without some degradation of sound.... ?

Now that we know the details, it appears that speaker sound will probably be good.

Headphone sound will hopefully continue to be great. If they can match the output level of iPhone with improved performance they'll have a winner on their hands. I have the S7e and the audio quality is great, but I wish it could go a bit louder sometimes and was able to drive some higher end headphones the same way the iPhone can.

I'm holding on to my V10 until my 10 arrives so I can compare sound quality with my V Moda m100s side by side.

hello there... by any chance has anyone tried/tested the htc 10 with both the v-moda crossfade wireless and the sennheiser momentum wireless?

i am interested in that comparison... thanks!

I'm using PowerAmp with Boomsound off and my personal audio profile on and it sounds amazing. And PA plays all of my lossless Apple files so I didn't have to convert any to flac.

The 10's headphone audio is pretty neutral. You don't need to pick a specific headphone to compensate, just go with one you like the sonic signature of. So far, all my headphones and earphones have sounded great on the 10.

I auditioned the HTC 10 and S7 in store using my Westone 2 IEMs in a moderately noisy store. Note: I was using "HD" YouTube streams since I wasn't able to load my own FLACs.

The HTC had a much richer sound in the same way the S7 has a much richer screen.
For example, the S7 seems to saturate the colors of the screen such that they are "better" than real.
Similarly, the HTC 10 sound has a very nice, rich sound (and ability to customize the sound profiles) which seems to bring out both bass and treble without going for that V shaped profile. Mids were still clean and vocals were not suppressed at all.

To be honest, there is a lot of slitting hairs comparing these phones though. The S7 camera is better because the software simply takes better pictures without effort. The sound on the HTC 10 is better through the whole range. My opinion on the screens is that the S7 is more "fun" even compared to the HTC (even in vivid mode), but it isn't something you'd notice if not comparing directly.
