HTC First & BlueBuds X

My new HTC First connects with my car stereo just fine but can't pair with my BlueBuds X headphones. Any ideas? My old S4 always paired quickly.

If you don't mind, maybe it'd be helpful to describe what the problem was and how you solved it. What might seem silly may be a significant problem for someone else.
