HTC Incredible - Gingerbread OTA - Current Issues

Here's my list of issues:
1 - the weather app keeps defaulting to Ohio instead of my actual location of Hudson, OH. If I open Maps, it will give me the right weather, but as soon as I close it, it defaults back to OH

2 - Email notifications. Prior to Gingerbread, I always had a little bubble on my email icon that showed how many unread emails I currently have. Now it only shows how many new emails I have. If it says 4 and I only open and read 1 of them, I expect the bubble to say 3 - instead the bubble just goes away because none of them are "new".

3 - All new notifications (at the top left) are in greyscale. Yesterday my Gmail gave me a red M, today it's grey...

4 - Why can't my phone seem to remember the time? Every time I unlock it, it's flips forward from 1 hour and two minutes ago. EVERY SINGLE TIME!!! This is getting annoying.

If anyone has suggested solutions to the above, I'd be willing to try them.

#3 is the same with Gingerbread on the Inc2 -- it's just the way HTC (or, Google?) designed it.

#4 is the same with Gingerbread on the Inc2 -- it's just the way HTC designed their home clock widget. I suppose HTC figured people would like to see the flip each time they returned to the home screen. I suggest you try Fancy Widgets or Beautiful Widgets if you want the home screen clocks with all the extra info, but not the flip.

One of the enhancements in Gingerbread was a skewing toward darker theming to help save battery life - darker colors use less power then lighter/brighter colors on the screen,

The Flip is the Flip. I've seen this in all the Sense based GB ROM's.

As far as your location goes, try clearing cache in any location apps like Maps, Nav, any HTC location apps, etc.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the ideas -

I've actually figured out the location issue is because at work we have a signal repeater - anywhere outside that repeater it shows the correct location, on the repeater it only shows Ohio.

Now, any thoughts on the "unread" bubble on my email icon?

My phone rocked before the update. Now...its a dud. These are my issues.

1) Constantly says Low Storage. But when it takes me to the app to correct my storage issues, I actually have tons of storage left. All my apps are on my SD card, and it says I have 597MB free for internal storage, and 258 MB free for RAM.
2) My google calendar is no longer putting events in to my calendar. I put one it, press save and its gone. It doesn't show up in my online google cal either.
3) My gmail is no longer notifying me of my emails. And when I go into Gmail app, there is only old emails in there...no new ones.
4) I can no longer receive text messages. It was on and off for a few days, but now I get nothing. And when I send a text, it says it is processing for at least one min.
5) After making a call, or sometimes after using an app and closing it out, it reverts to the white screen with the HTC logo on it, and then says loading for about 30 secs. I can't use it until its done loading.

All of this makes my phone un-usable. I need it for texting, email and the calander. :'(

Im afraid that if I take it in to Verizon, they will just suggest resetting my phone to the orig settings and I DON'T want that. I have had my phone for long enuf now that I don't want to loose my apps and what is saved in my apps.

Does anyone know if I can just uninstall this gingerbread virus? My phone was perfect before this. Never an issue. Now its a worthless piece of junk!

Try clearing your cache, delete some messages, and clear your call log. Does your Google account not sync at all?

Others in these threads have said that resetting the phone after the GB update helped. If push comes to shove, you ought to be willing to try resetting the phone. If you can't accept the fact that sometimes technology has to be wiped and reloaded, you ought to step away from tech and take up knitting or something. hehe

[edit] Verizon certainly did frack us with this GB update. Really annoys me that VZW screwed this up so badly.

I agree with Tbolt - you may have to do a reset. This post has steps to make the reset as painless as possible:

The same thing happened during the Froyo Update - Most users has no problem, but some had to do a reset to get everything working smoothly.

FWIW - My Wife's DInc needed a reset after the update and it is running better than it ever did.

No, I tried that right off the bat. Nada.

And Google account says its synced, but not everything is coming thru.

You all may be right. I may need to do a factory reset. But Im just so mad that my phone was virtually perfect before this update and now its practically un-useable. Ugh. Ill do what I have to do, I was just hoping there was a better way to fix this issue without losing all my settings/.info/apps.

Let us know how it goes after the reset.

The reset corrected everything except my text messages. So I had to call Verizon and since they couldn't fix it, they sent me a new phone. :D So, now I have a new phone. Could have been worse!

Actually, be grateful. There is speculation that the update was pulled because of all the issues it was causing. There is no proof, but there has not been any new posters saying they got the update recently. Plus, if you go to Verizon's forums, one of the moderators agreed that the update is giving some people issues.

Plus, without exception it thinks you have a 4.3 inch screen and the Market thinks you are an Evo on Spring. Let then fix it and they will begin pushing it out.

I was having the same problem with my phone telling me that I had low storage issue when in fact I did not, as well as gtalk not working and gmail not pushing to phone. I did a factory reset yesterday and this seems to have solved that problem.

I have not received a text message since before and after the factory reset though. Called VZW today, and they said that HTC notified them last week that there is a known issue with the 2.3.4 gingerbread update and they were working on a solution and are not pushing the update to more phones at this time.

VZW solution for me since I am not under warranty is to require me to purchase a new phone - with an upgrade of course! I told them I do not want to spend more money, or get a crap phone for free and use my upgrade, I just want my phone to work. The rep is calling HTC today to see when the fix will be ready and she is supposed to call me back today after 5.

I am looking for a way to unsintall the gingerbread update and I am not having any luck...does anyone know if this is possible?

Found the fix for the text message issue on another forum:

"I called HTC support and got a fix for the text messaging problem! Go to settings/ then applications and check the box to receive from unknown sources, then go to dl3.htc.com/misc/inc8049.apk when you hit enter its gonna download a thing called hot fix, and after a couple mins your texts should all flood in!"

This worked! Thanks Verizon but I will pass on the $300 phone for now!

I just got off the phone with Verizon Tech Support about my wife's Dinc having major battery issues, texting not sending or receiving sporadically and other problems since updating the 2.3.4 OTA. Went through tier 1 then tier 2 and told them all the problems with the phone. Also mentioned I did a battery pull,SD card pull & format and finally a factory reset. Told them that did not fix the issues. Now they are sending out a Incredible 2(certified like new) as a replacement via USPS. If anyone that can't deal with the OTA issues that actually received it call Verizon now and they will send out the Dinc2. They said that under normal circumstances they would sent out the exact phone but since the phone is old enough they do not have any more in stock and their policy is to replace it with a comparable devise which happens to be the Incredible 2! Hope this is yet another comfirmation that they are sending out Dinc2's as replacements.:D

Several days ago, following the update, aside from a few little things, speech-to-text in message app stopped working, PowerAmp music player locked up with whatever song it happened to be on last, and the battery overheated and dropped charge precipitously. I wiped PowerAmp from my phone and tried WinAmp. Had a similar experience.

But now, days later, things have come back to some semblance of normalcy, and I can't say why or how. Speech-to-text is functioning again, battery usage is once again good (bought bigger battery early), and battery no longer [dangerously] heating up. Using Double Twist for music app. No desire to re-try PowerAmp right now. No other functional issues.. I've got my rock-solid Inc back! And it seems to even be a little faster.

My father and I have had our DINCs since initial release April 2010. I called Verizon to explain all the issues that we have had since the Gingerbread update and that I have factory reset both phones twice, formatted sd card, internal phone storage, etc and they said they are sending me 2 Incredible 2's as replacements as well. I had to ask for a supervisor after they said my phones were out of warranty and just expressed my disgust and he put me on hold for 5 to 10min and boom.
