HTC Inspire 4g root help

Hello,

I recently purchased the HTC Inspire 4g and wanted to root it. I downloaded the ace-hack kit and followed the steps in the manual to root. My Android version 2.3.5, htc sense 3.0, Software number 3.20.502.52 710RD. While running the cmd it states that my phone version needs to be downgraded in order for it to work. How do I root such a device? Thanks in advance.

Oh, I did try the downgrade. But after everything it says that it failed. I read somewhere about unlocking the bootloader. What does really allow me to do?
