Htc Inspire sideload update!!!!

I found this on the HTC forum and it worked for me. Good luck.

Go to Applications, All Applications, Customization Settings Provider, and click the Clear Data button. Then hit back, and go to Settings, and click the Clear Data button on that page. The place I read these instructions says it will wipe custom ringtones and the like, but I didn't lose anything that I know of!

If you don't like the outcome, just reset to factory defaults and start again.

This also breaks mms. You will not be able to send or receive any mms.

I'm still trying to figure out how (according to AT&T) the update pushed out to my phone on 7/19 (SIX days ago) and it's still not show up in my phone.

forever is something of an understatement. :P

Ive been trying regularly since june 10th. and STILL no update. ive pretty much given up. ive been fed so much crap from tech support and customer support that im seriously considering just telling them to stick it come september when my contract is up. If they cant get the simplest things right - and an update THEY tout and offered - then is there any question as to the state of the network and service?

It'll be interesting to see how much of a fubar this whole gingerbread thing is next month. Cant wait to see the circus side show thats gonna turn into.

For some it does. It didn't on mine.

I'be seen you post this previously. You are the only fortunate one out of many I have seen post where it didn't break mms. So the bottom line is, in all likelyhood it probably will break mms and each time this procedure is posted, there should be a warning with it, especially when the only fix is a hard reset.

Well folks, after about a month and a half, I have received my update. The issue apparently is, and I quote, "The conversion from Android 2.2 to 2.3 was causing the issue.". I also asked her when Gingerbread is coming out, especially since my wife has it on her Atrix now and rubs it in my face. The rep said, "Any day now". I've heard August, so sounds almost right.

There could be some validity to that statement. I too FINALLY have the update after trying since June 10th. Maybe that whole froyo to gingerbread thing was the trick. Regardless, it's finally done. Let's hope the forthcoming gingerbread update is a smoother/faster operation.

So you're saying you called and it worked? Or did they push a 2.3 update to you first?

I believe ttl is suggesting that the att network has been clogged with gingerbread updates going out to atrix customers. This sounds to me like a bad excuse by att. The 2.3 update is retrieved by the customer over wifi while the 3rd party push is sent by att to the device purely over the network radio.

Perhaps att is suggesting that all the smart employees have been busy working on the gingerbread update. I find that a little more plausible.

I dont have the gingerbread update yet.
Ive been calling, online tech chatting, store rep beating and just about everything else i could think of just to get the 3rd party app update. Didnt call or anything yesterday. just went to the applications option in settings to delete a free app id tried and saw that it had just "shown up". no pop up, no notification from ATT, no nothing. "unknown source" was just there. i kinda raised an eyebrow and wondered about it a bit, but figured its there, why argue at this point.

But i too had read that possibly there was something in the pipeline of updates that was causing these random glitches of some inspire owners getting it and others been driven to the brink of insanity. That possibly ATT has had to do some sort of "update pipeline house cleaning" for lack of a better way to state it, in order to get ready for the gingerbread update. And thus by cleaning things up a bit, other inspire owners having problems with the 3rd party app update now suddenly are able to "miraculously" get the update without issue.

but in the last couple of months, ive heard just about every excuse in the book, some new ones and some that i cant honestly believe they tossed out there and expect any rational half way normal individual to believe. Its my hope that theyve learned something from this simple update and that the gingerbread update from att will go smoother as a result. the froyo wifi update that i got from htc went off without a hitch a while back. I hope those htc guys are holding the att guys hands and making sure they get it right the 1st time.

could also be some truth to the atrix update push as well and the amount/volume of data traffic its causing right now. Maybe thats why 1 device this month and another next month. Im not sure how att handles directing the update traffic. But it would seem odd that the 3rd party app update being a push to the device and the gingerbread update being a wifi download, that those to updates would be handled on ATT's end in the same traffic manner. But since im no mobile data traffic expert, its just pure conjecture on my part.

i think that this could quite possibly be the most rational and concise explanation to the whole situation regarding the 3rd party app update. :P:P:P

I myself have given up on this. After either chatting or talking several times a week for the last several weeks Ive decided that I just may never get this.

I tried installing the Amazon App Store last night, told me it was blocked.

You have probably done this but from the Home Screen hit Menu, then hit Settings, then hit Applications. On that screen do you now have an option titled Unknown Sources? If so, check the box and you will now be able to go to Amazon.com and follow their directions to have the Amazon App Store application sent to your phone.

I check that screen about 3 times a day at this point waiting for that option to show up.

just finished chatting with online tech and informed me that the 3rd party app will be packaged with 2.3, and I will not receive the app until the 2.3 update

Wouldnt be surprised.

After reading this thread, I called 611 last night for my cousin's phone and after about 40 minutes had the update pushed to the phone. I talked to three agents, the first two had not heard of the PMC dept. The third guy I talked to said he was in the Tech Support department and that I didn't need to speak to the PMC dept. He was able to push it to the phone for me in two parts. This took him about 10 minutes. I had to power the phone off/on and then suddenly the Unknown Sources checkbox appeared. Best of luck to everyone!
