Htc Inspire sideload update!!!!

And after my fifth or sixth chat with a rep...I get this;
"The system is still pending. I am going to send your information off to a group that is handling the phones that are not receiving the update. I am sorry but I am not able to say how long it will take for them to find the problem and correct it."

It then occured to me that every time I've talked to a rep I've done it in my office where I only get 1 or 2 bars of service at most. So, I ask if that might be a factor....I then get this;

It could. The download is being sent over the air so that could be problem.

Try to find an area that gets more signal bars in the office and try leaving it on for 24 hours and keeping the Wi-Fi turned off for the 24 hours to see if that helps.

I swear, at this rate I half expect them to tell me to stand on a step ladder, wrap my right arm in tin foil, hold the phone in my left, hold my right arm over my head, keep the wi-fi off and stay in this position for 24 hours and MAYBE the update will show up.

Frustrating.

I just contacted ATT through the online chat AND performed the "check in" quoted above. Not sure if it was just a good rep or the conjunction of the two. This particular rep asked for my IMEI number right away as well.

That makes sense. From what I have read, the push via xpath seems to rely on knowing a more precise network nodepath.

so...

Today I called about the "status" since I was last told I'm on the "list" of devices not getting the update and that I should be seeing it by end of week. They told me I'm still on that list, but there is no date that they can give me that they expect me to get the update.

I also did the "check in" process, and although I do get a "check in successful" message, when I try to do the update I get a "Server Not Available" message after a few minutes of trying....

same exact thing here too, ac. No ETR, no info and no help.

is that server now, or has it ever been, available?

I mean...does it even exist??

It sure as hell seems like it doesnt

i guess im in my tuesday beatdown mode today. ive yet to get the update still(been tryins dince june 10th-see above posts). even after talking to data support.
we'll see how it goes today.

*edit* - well, went about as expected. no joy. she did say the inspire was 1 of the hardest phones to push this particular update to. Ya think??
now i get to call someone completely new. some deal called the "PMC Group". supposedly, they can tell why OTA updates arent making it to my phone. so we're off into the vast unknown that is ATT customer service (if 1 can actually call it that) on a quest for this mythical PMC Group.
Sounds like some covert ninja att black ops group. hope i dont piss em off and they clandestinely brick my phone.
Of course, at this point, that may just be a blessing in disguise.
further updates as they pop up today.

one rep who told me that installing non-Android-market apps would "void my warranty"

This is what I was told as well, he also said that there is a high risk for your phone to get viruses etc, so I see their point of view as well? Some one please correct me if I am wrong?

I think they will you this with the idea that you are an idiot and know nothing about anything, atleast thats what I felt when I went. I went for an unrelated issue and asked about the update and whether I could get the update to install non-market apps and she said "well i think the only way to do that is to do something that is called "Rooting" your phone, but doing so will void your warranty" Obviously I acted I like I had no idea what she was talking about. She went on to say "Give me a second while I look to see if I can find what you are talking about" she proceeds to get on Android Forums and says "this is where I get most of my information and no I dont see anything about your issue" what I should have done was point her to this exact thread but I did not feel like getting mad and arguing so I didnt and left with no update.

July 19, 2011 and this update got released how long ago? And I still dont have it.

(I went to one of those service stores where they fix em, give you refurbs etc and all that)

Well just chatted with them again.... seems Im still on the spreadsheet with no eta for a fix....

Sent from my Inspire 4G using Tapatalk

Holy cow! I just got the update! There was no text message or anything. I just checked it and it was there. I barely had any service at all. It was like one bar of H+. I hope the updates start pouring through for the rest of you!!!

Well I went the web chat route and the agent knew exactly what I was talking about and just took about 3 or 4 minutes and then told me it would be sent within 24 to 48 hours. I will keep everyone updated as to when or if I receive it.

I believe I have some info on getting the update. I got the update today but had to call back when I got home to get the update pushed onto my wife's phone. Here is what you need to have done. The rep has to chat with an ASR rep and they need to do an OTA Activation and you do a soft reset on the phone (pull the battery) once we did that and I rebooted the phone there had the update. No waiting 24 hours or callbacks. Give it a try and let me know if it works for you. Hope I was able to help some of you at least.

Definitely worth a try, but just for clarity, a battery pull is totally acceptable, a hard reset is not. I'm assuming you did not do a factory reset and lose all your data.

I did a battery pull at the request of the chat tech on my second round and the push still didn't show until about 24 hours after.

I edited my post. Sorry I was a little sleepy. It was indeed a soft reset (battery pull) and not a hard reset (factory reset) but the key was them doing an OTA Activation on the phone. They did that while I had the battery pulled. I am guessing that something went wrong when these phones were initially activated.

I started a chat with a rep and out of the box...without even verifying my account...I get this message;

"You will at this point need to speak with the Manufacturer of the Device because the push has been completed"

so while on the chat I check the last page of this thread and find this info about the soft reset. I pull the battery, while it's pulled I ask the rep if the "OTA Acitvation has been done already" she says yes.

Once the battery is back in and the phone is up I check settings>applications and STILL no update. The rep says the push on their end was completed on 7/19 (?!)

When I do the check for updates in the settings menu it says all software is up to date

So why the hell am I not getting it? And, will contacting HTC help anything at all??

Help.

Honestly it should just come in the GB update.

It should, but now that you said that, it occurs to me that there is the distinct possibility that the gingerbread update from att could put all users (unrooted) back to blocked 3rd party status.

You would think that att would have the sense to include the android third party apps in any future updates as you mentioned, especially given the volume of work they have generated for themselves not including it in the first place.

Now I just need to figure out if I should go ahead with rooting and load some form of GB rom before the official ota update arrives. Whose gonna be my daddy? XDA devs or AT&T?

I just received the update and it was instant! I needed the Business Management Department or something like that. They pushed and I restarted! Done!

I found this on the HTC forum and it worked for me. Good luck.

Go to Applications, All Applications, Customization Settings Provider, and click the Clear Data button. Then hit back, and go to Settings, and click the Clear Data button on that page. The place I read these instructions says it will wipe custom ringtones and the like, but I didn't lose anything that I know of!

If you don't like the outcome, just reset to factory defaults and start again.
