HTC Nexus Marlin Specs

nexus 6P is my first phablet and it's just way too big to hold. It's too angular and the bezels are too much. So I don't mind downsizing to a 5.5 inch. The Note phones are best phablets for holdability. I'm not sure if I'll get another Nexus. I'm eyeing the Note 7. I'll just keep my 6P to play around with Nougat when it does come in a consumer version.

No way am I surprised; I'll just have to get used to a much slower updating schedule. A 5.5" display is a deal breaker for me. As is, I'm willing to bet, the "new and improved" Boomsound.

Re: Phone size. Everybody I know, personally, save one individual, when I've asked about the size of their 5.7" or larger phones, replied with something like "No, it's not too big," in a tone of voice that sounded like "but I wish it was smaller." Other than that one person, nobody has ever replied "It's great! I love it!" Much less "I wish it was bigger!" There was one colleague who insisted he loved his gigantic Note something-or-other. But, as soon as his contract was fulfilled, he went with something much smaller, next time around.

I can understand how those of you that use your devices as media entertainment centers want large displays and walloping stereo sound, but many people, perhaps most, mainly want a mobile communications device that can also display/play media, rather than a marginally pocket-sized home theater system

I'm, admittedly, biased. For me, 5.5" is the very top end. I can even appreciate the advantages. But I prefer smaller. Thus, and assuming these rumors are more-or-less accurate, I'll probably go with the Marlin's little brother: The Sailfish.

It is most likely the codename. It most likely won't be used to ID the phone. Google has always used fish creature names.

Certainly not a reason to upgrade. No mention of wireless charging or OIS, the only upgrade is the CPU. The real bummer is the speaker, its a huge downgrade from the 6P, what was HTC thinking? I'll wait for the 2017 Nexus before I upgrade.

Just because these rumored specs don't mention OIS doesn't mean it won't have it. Wait until the official reveal before busting out the pitchforks.

Both these new Nexus phones look promising based on the rumors. Two different screen sizes is the way to go, if the manufacturer can swing it. Look at the 2015 Nexus, the iPhone, the Galaxy S7, Sony's line-up; the list of companies ditching the one-size-fits-all model is rapidly expanding.

No, but the actual name better be the Nexus 5 Plus for the sake of accuracy. Or, of course, the Nexus 6 Minus. But that seems less likely.

You could be right, but I hope not. I too am a Nexus 6 user and I don't want anything smaller. If this is the case, it's 'hello Note series' for me when I'm finally ready to replace the ol' N6.

I don't think you will be disappointed with Note 7. Samsung touchwize came along way. I used to be a Note guy until Nexus 6. Now I have 6p and 5x. I would go back to note 7 if I was not on project fi. Also, galaxy s7 is a thing of beauty. But who am I kidding. I love pure android and that's whay i'm a Nexus!

I'm hoping this is the larger of the two devices, and that the rumored 5" "sailfish" has a footprint around the size of the LG G2. I was hoping the 5X was around that size, but once I held it in my hand, I was immediately disappointed. Performance was also not up to speed, compared to the Nexus 5. The only compliment I could give the phone was the camera. I took some great shots with that phone. Also, I was glad google adjusted the DPI, so it had the appearance of 2K resolution. You could definitely see more on the screen on the 5X, compared to the Nexus 5, despite having the same resolution.

I thought the 6P was to big, returned it and got a MXPE. Interestingly the same size screen but smaller over all physical footprint. So lost nothing IMO, but gained an easier to hold device with a bit better sounding speakers. I think a 5.5 screen size sounds good to me. My MXP needs to break or stop working somehow before I'd ditch it for anything else tho. HTC doing speakers after their effort with the 10 leaves me leery of any HTC nexus device. Good. quality sounding speakers are high on my priority list for any new device. the 6P spoiled me then the MXP spoiled me rotten.
Furthermore HTC update frequency are a pretty big question mark for those that salivate over every monthly security patch.

Google will be in charge of releasing the updates, not HTC.

I too love pure Android, and I dread straying from a Nexus device. I'm honestly not sure what I'll do when the Nexus 6 packs it in. Long live my Nexus 6!

A Nexus by HTC is still a Nexus, thus there is no need to worry about HTC's update history.

I think the specs are fine and it's shaping up to look like a great phone.

It might have the same speaker setup the HTC 10 has with a bottom firing speaker and one through the earpiece.

Interested to see what it looks like and what new features Android Nought has.

Yeah I'm so excited to see this phone in action. Hopefully soon we get more. I would love to know which processor is put in too.
