HTC Nexus Marlin Specs

Thanks. Good to know. I tend to be an app junkie which no doubt influences the slowening issue. But not having to do a FDR after an update is a plus!

Oh it gets better.. The new nexus phones will have seamless updates.. There will be a separate partition that gets updated in the background. All you'll need to do is reboot. the phone will switch partitions and the phone will be updated.

I remember reading something about that. So is this both a hardware and an Nougat feature? I'm not sure I understand how that update process differs from the present process.

Edit: Ah, I see now:

Edit 2: I wonder if this will extend the upgradability of the new Nexus phones past what Google recently published? (security patches for 3 years and major OTAs for 2 years from release).

Idk what to do now. Was going to get the new Nexus Marlin but if Google releases their actual Google branded phone in December, I might as well go for that instead. Makes more sense right?

What Google branded phone?

What Google branded phone?
Google is making their own branded phone like Apple does with iPhone. They will still have a 3rd party make it but it will be pure Google , not with any company like HTC or whatever.

If that's the rumor based on Sundar's comments a couple months ago, I thought that one was completely made up by taking some comments out of context and adding some unverifiable wishful thinking. Is there a new rumor or is that the same one?

Gotcha. I just saw the post about it and made me think. Appreciate the info.

No change in the battery capacity for one, and when looking at a phone like the Axon 7, a bottom firing speaker after 2 straight years of dual front stereo speakers is disappointing.

assuming the audio quality via headphones will be much improved ... personally i use my earbuds or Bluetooth speaker, so front facing speakers aren't all that important ... other than that the specs are as good as anybody could expect. maybe not a huge upgrade from the 6p, but phones are reaching a plateau, and at least a lot of people I know, aren't going new phones every year, so this is more for people with the Nexus 6, or even 5, or any other 2-3 year old phone.

Then it's settled, get an HTC 10. I mean, what's the issue. You like HTC's speakers, software and output, then go get it. I am not disappointed that my Silverado doesn't have a v8 Hemi. If I wanted a Hemi, I would have gotten a Ram.

I don't understand the disappointment with people over this phone. It's not 5.7", it's not a 4000 mAh battery, and it doesn't have an SD card. They make those phones, go get them.

I had a N6. It was a huge ugly brick of a phone, I was sick of it after 3 months. This one is a liitle too big, I prefer the size of the N5. I am willing to trade that size for this battery, ram, storage and camera. It's a trade off of what you want as opposed to not want.

You want HTC's speaker system to play your phone out loud the three times a year you are showing coworkers videos. So, go get the HTC 10. I have my Beats on my ears for travel, my Beats earbuds for the gym. Cell phone speakers are pitiful, always will be, and really, if you want sound that bad, get bluetooth speakers. Are you trying to DJ a party with your cellphone speakers?

could do without all the sarcasm, but I agree with your point. people are ungodly picky these days, when in actuality, there's pretty much a phone available for everyone.

just list what's important, and be happy with whatever phone checks off your top 5 ... don't worry about the bottom 2. and I don't blame anyone for preferring decent audio, but to expect superior sound coming from a tiny phone speaker seems odd to me. I'm only interested in the DAC/headphone output.

Maybe it's already been said and I missed it, but what's the hangup with bezels? I have a Nexus 6p and S7 edge. The 6p seems to have fairly large bezels in comparison, but neither phone bothers me at all.

I also had an M8 that people complained about the bezels, but they never bothered me at all.

On the reverse, I had a G4 for a while that had much smaller bezels. I didn't actually notice a difference in daily use. Sure, I get the aesthetics, but functionally is there much of a difference?

I understand people not liking bezel width, like Nexus 6, but other than aesthetics, bezel height doesn't interfere with a phones ergonomics IMO.

Not one bit of sarcasm was used. I meant every word.

Frankly I am all for it. Basically you are giving me an HTC 10 with 5.5 inch Amoled display, Vanilla Android, and hopefully better camera than the 10. (Nexus 6P camera is better than the 10 right now, I have both.) Sounds like this is going to be the phone the 10 should have been, and I for one would love it.

I have a nexus 6p and i love the size but i always say i think 5.5 would be perfect size at least for me so I'm definitely all in

Anyone else a little surprised that we've got announced phones (and one unpacking today from Samsung) with Nougat onboard...and pretty much nothing about Nexus? Is the issue possibly HTC being behind?

Really want to upgrade my 5x and get my wife rolled over to Nexus and Fi. I've been on Fi for 3 months and love it. The 6p is a great phone but just a shade too large for my preference so I've been living with some occasional performance lags with the 5x.

The V20 was announced with a September release date with 7.0 on it; zero Samsung phones have announced when they'll get an update. Nexus is rumored to announce this month, which would be very early in their cycle. The last three Nexus cycles were all released in October or November.

It's highly likely that you can add the Note 7 to that tomorrow. Is the OS cycle a bit earlier than it was for KK and MM given that the V20 claims it will be available with Nougat in September? Just seems with 7.0 out in the wild in Sept that the timing would sync up a little more closely is all.

Wouldn't be too soon, for me. I'm looking to upgrade my Moto G, 1st. Gen to either something that has VoLTE and Band 12 on TMO, or something on Project Fi, and I'd like to do that before going on vacation soon after the U.S. Labour Day holiday.

I'm ready to go for the Marlin, but would like to see more specs to see if it has Qi wireless charging. I currently have the Droid Turbo and have a great Qi charger on my desk at work that is a perfect stand for my phone. I've read through all the threads and sites with leaked specs and didn't see anything about it.

I'm doubting it's going to have Qi charging again. Just something tells me it's not.
