HTC One (M8) camera discussion

Wait what???? The article is just as relevant today as it ever was. Why don't you actually read it.

I did, it's irrelevant to this discussion. Heck there wasn't even an iPhone in 2007 and Bush was still president.

Wow this is really getting old, if the camera on your phone is important to you and as many of you have said that the camera on this phone is not good enough for you, why are you still here? Fine we get it the camera on this phone is not good enough for you. This thread is a camera discussion for the M8 where people "who own this phone or planning on owning this phone" can come and seek advice about how the camera and maybe what settings to use not come read several pages of arguments about how the camera is not good enough so I don't want the phone. Again if you have no interest in getting the phone then why are you still on this forum.

I thought the iPhone first came out in 2007. Oh no, I've entered some type of perverse parallel universe where the timeline is off. :-(

Lol the article is from February 07. Admittedly I didn't check the exact release date of the iPhone but figured i had the math on my side.

Hmmm, you do realize the argument don't you? The article addresses the question of the number of pixels effect on image quality. It's PRECISELY what we are discussing. Sheesh.

As I've already discovered, you're wasting your time trying to educate him on the subject of digital photography. Besides, if someone has hours to waste by attacking phones, it's probably not someone you want to interact with anyway.

Probably right. It's just incredible the way people will reject information out of hand to protect their preconceived notions.

I think the easy answer to all the back and forth bickering is " Don't Take the Bait.... "

Ignore, report, move on... They will go away eventually or the Moderator team will clean it up.

Just my 2 cents, we went through this same thing last year with some of the same people...

But what do I know, I just volunteer here :p

I think we are all hear just to clarify facts, at least I am. The truth is a lot of people will come in here and see all these posts about how bad the camera is and it simply isn't true. I'm hoping that someone on the fence will get the correct information and not something mislead by a number.

You're probably right though, I should just ignore them

Thanks for the post and I'll reply with "I hope so."
It's so discouraging to post here with all the ankle-biting that goes on. I haven't experienced that in any other forum but there's a lot of it here. I had no idea people were so aggressive about phones. Thanks again for keeping an eye on it.

I get what your saying, but we've had 110% solid sourced proof in the past right from the horses mouth like Samsung or HTC, etc.. still you have those that insist they know better so as much as anyone tries to get the right answer there will always be someone that comes along and knocks the discussion off path.

Its a shame but as I said best to do is ignore, report and move on with the discussion and myself or the Mod team will come along and clean things up best we can.

Carry on!

It's just hard for me to wrap my mind around all the hate for a phone camera. I own the M7 and love the camera experience. I took some pics of my daughter and her friend at a concert this past weekend (it was dark) and they turned out great. Now I checked out the M8 and and I'm digging the refocus/blur background.

I think the M8 has a really nice camera loaded with features. Can't imagine anyone calling it poor or crummy.

If I may hazard a slightly informed guess, I'd say the the M8 was the most hyped phone in recent memory. The camera was probably THE biggest source of speculation. When it was revealed on 3/25 and that it was essentially the same rear module with a gimmicky "duo" camera thrown in, there was a lot of disappointment since many folks were hoping for an improvement over the M7 in the camera department, particularly in the area of detail and image quality. Virtually ever review that came out after the embargo broke, including Phil's, noted the lack of improvement, which I think has led to the current feeding frenzy. When something gets that much hype and doesnt live up to it, slagging is bound to happen.
