HTC One (M8) camera discussion

Well isn't this a lively debate. I'm entertained.

Don't feed the fire lol. There's enough of this (edited by Moderator) in the m8 section as it is

Sure, with a chromecast ($35) or HTC media link ($100) it works great. I have a chromecast and I highly recommend it

I can send photos from the gallery directly to my LG TV (DNLA I guess.)
Ok it seems to disconnect randomly on occasions and the TV sometimes prompts to reconnect but it works without any extra hardware.

Maybe the question to ask is this: compared to the iPhone 5s camera, how does the M8 camera fare?

Not sure if that is even a question to ask or why it is even a topic of discussion. If you are an avid Android user why compare anything with a iPhone because it is not like a avid Android user will switch to a iPhone especially not switch for the camera.

I have a serious problem with lights in my pics...not sure if this is expected or of there is something I can do to fix it. Whether it's a lamp, ceiling light or a street light, it adds a lot of blur, no clarity whatsoever and makes the pics look terrible. Anything I can do to improve it?

Make sure you have everything set to default. Go through all the settings and make sure nothing is randomly adjusted. Then make sure you wipe off the camera lens with a soft or microfiber cloth, smudges won't help anything.

Give that a try, if it doesn't work post back up here and we'll see what else we can do

Yea I knew you could do that, you just have to have a tv with DLNA. I personally have a dumb tv so for me, the $35 chromecast works flawlessly

Thanks Skyway! The camera is set to default and just wiped the lens again. I will take some photos tonight and see if that helps. Thanks again

It's certainly cheaper than buying a new TV ;)

Your welcome! I would also try using HDR mode, even at night it can work very well.

If you are an OS agnostic then why not compare the M8's camera to that of the iPhone 5s?

Most ordinary folks do not care about the OS, they simply want a camera that works properly under all conditions with the minimal amount of fuss.

Besides, there are numerous websites that have compared the 5s, M8, and S5 cameras. These are the top flagships and they should be compared.

So I ask again, how does the M8 camera compare to that of the iPhone 5s?

Another thing to try is to tap on a part of the screen that is in medium light before you snap the picture.

I understand what you are saying, I'm just pointing out that if you are an avid Android user you really don't care about the iPhone comparison because that Android user has no intention of switching. To answer your question several OS agnostics as you put it have mentioned through some of these threads that the M8 camera is just as good as the iPhone 5S. Better in some situations, less in others but overall just as good.

Thanks guys! By chance would another camera app help? I think I purchased one a long time ago.

It's a deal breaker for me...phone is nice in all other areas but this camera is just horrible. I was hoping it would be "good enough" but every pic I have taken is over exposed and any light is blown out regardless of any setting I choose. Bummer, it was a nice phone otherwise.

Here is the thing. Would you rather the lights not be blown and the shadows show no detail? If so, adjust exposure down to achieve that. After doing that, you could use snapseed to pull up the shadows a bit.

How do you think other phones would take those pics? Most would probably expose the lights better, but lose all foreground detail. This is what people don't understand, if you take that shot with an iphone or sg5 it you won't do better, just different.

Those photos were pretty bad. Your phone might just be defective. I took night shots and similar light situations and they turned out pretty good. You can see all the photos I have taken with my M8 here: https://flic.kr/s/aHsjWWKCTP

Great photo album! Seriously, if I need any photos better than what you have posted in your Flickr album, I'll use a camera. Thanks for sharing! I have only taken one picture with my M8 and that was so I could show a co-worker the UFocus feature.

You have some very good pictures... where is that anyway?
some outside pictures didn't have a vivid color, they didn't look that good. overall the camera did a good job.
