As it should. What did you do or who did you tweet to get it fixed? Them not wanting to fix it is normal for the lens until they realize they have a problem. Samsung S5 is the same with the cracked lens but haven't heard of them repairing at no cost yet.

You wouldn't believe me if I told you.. don't harass him with your phones until I get my phone back though!

Let's just say.. he's on Twitter, he works for HTC and he is a 'Hoops fan' Do the research.. lol

Just spoke with Verizon and they won't cover it because they are claiming damage. If I want it replaced then I have to pay the $100 deductable for my insurance. Screw HTC. I am just tossing this piece of garbage in a drawer and forgetting about it. Consider it a $600 lesson to never deal with this joke of a company.

I'd rather you throw it into an envelope and mail it to me. That would show them!

Been checking this thread regularly the last couple of weeks. Just got my M8 last week and one of the first things I did was just put a piece of clear tape over the two cameras on the back of the phone until I figure out a more permanent solution to protect them. Which camera covers are people experiencing scratching with? Has anyone had any issues with the front-facing camera?

I'm not sure how widespread this problem is but I'm pretty shocked that it sounds like nobody (HTC, cell phone carriers) is taking responsibility for the poor design and there haven't been any announcements on how they'll remedy the problem for customers. My M8 is meeting my expectations so far but clearly one of the points of argument about the phone is the camera compared to other manufacturers--if HTC just sweeps this camera lens cover scratch issue under the rug and does not address this, this will truly be black eye for the company.

I would purchase a lens cover now...

Slickwraps is the one i purchased and I'm just waiting for it to arrive...

I currently have cut up one of my un-used screen protectors to cover the lens for now..

I experienced this scratched coating issue and had to remove it with alcohol and a paper towel.

So is there any offical call by htc,about the scratches? I have the tiny scratches on my lens too and I have a otter box commuter on my phone and I put my phone in a pouch in my pocket. To say I baby my phone is an understatement..

I'm going to communicate with HTC in the morning.

My back facing camera is currently unusable due to the scratches on the lens. The picture quality is horrible and blurry. I didn't throw this phone every which way. I'm extremely anal about keeping my phone as pristine as possible.

I'm sorry but this has me pissed.

My lens has no scratches but I get tired of wiping prints off of it every time I go to take a pic. Let us know if these are as fingerprint resistant as they claim. Thanks.

Mine is grey. Also, from what I understand, there were different materials used in the beginning of production. The guy I spoke with on the phone from 'special projects' said he gets different answers on the lens cover material from HTC. Apparently some are a plastic material and some are actually glass. He could not expand on that though. Hopefully my new cover is glass..

Hahahha the G2 had the same issue AHAHA. That would be an oleophobic coating or similar material, intended to repel dirt and finger oils. Very often just like on eyeglasses a stay-clean coating is easily scratched...and a scratch resistant material is easily smudged...

It does? I have the G2 in my hand right now and don't see anything like that....

That makes sense. I really haven't taken care of mine, have dropped it a couple times without a case, always wipe it with the corner of my shirt, and it hasn't scratched. Yet, people doing everything right are getting scuffs and cracks.

He gave me three options (for which all are free of charge, phone covered under warranty)...

1) Send the phone in for repairs (leaves me phone-less)
2) Send the phone in, receive a brand spankin' new one...NOT a refurbished one...get charged $20 for shipping (leaves me phone-less)
3) HTC sends a brand spankin' new phone to my house, places hold for cost of phone on my credit card, get charged $30 for shipping (hey...I'm not phone-less!)

I'm thinking option 3.

I'm just glad this is covered. I learned my lesson!

He gave me three options (for which all are free of charge, phone covered under warranty)...

1) Send the phone in for repairs (leaves me phone-less)
2) Send the phone in, receive a brand spankin' new one...NOT a refurbished one...get charged $20 for shipping (leaves me phone-less)
3) HTC sends a brand spankin' new phone to my house, places hold for cost of phone on my credit card, get charged $30 for shipping (hey...I'm not phone-less!)

I'm thinking option 3.

I'm just glad this is covered. I learned my lesson!

Option 3 is by far the only reasonable option. Lol

These are the exact options offered on the HTC Advantage plan. I suspect if you use it to get a new phone due to your lens cover issue, you will no longer be protected if your screen gets broken in the first six months. I'm going to live with the lens until the end of my six months just in case my screen gets broken, then have it replaced.

The thing I like about the iPhone is the physical Apple store. Just take the phone and exchange it. It even works with third party extended warranty like Squaretrade. My 5 had a bad battery that developed beyond the one year apple warranty. Took it to the store, I paid $260ish for a brand new phone and got reimbursed by ST. No wait, no harm, no foul.

Did you use your HTC Advantage coverage? Or are they doing this free and acknowledging they have a problem?
