HTC One (M8): Camera Lens Issue

Re: HTC One (M8): Camera lens cover issue

BTW.. Scratched it off with a fingernail and an alcohol soaked napkin. Just wanted to make that clear before we have people attempting this with a razor or something crazy like that.

Re: HTC One (M8): Camera lens cover issue

If it is a coating of some kind I wonder if it was only supposed to be there during the manufacturing process of the lens glass and a batch didn't get cleaned or something. You would think that more people would have issue if the coating is supposed to be there post assembly.

Hahahha the G2 had the same issue AHAHA. That would be an oleophobic coating or similar material, intended to repel dirt and finger oils. Very often just like on eyeglasses a stay-clean coating is easily scratched...and a scratch resistant material is easily smudged...

hmm, i might have even mentioned this earlier too but i had given a fairly good rub with some eyeglass cleaner and a microfibre cloth and it seemed to clear up the center. Got a replacement coming now so i don't want to mess with it but chances are that might be a solution. I just wonder if its something that is supposed to be there / or not supposed to be there?

Re: HTC One (M8): Camera lens cover issue

Well, for the minor coating on the camera lens, I got quoted 140.00 bucks to make repairs. I told them to take a hike and send it back. I will try the nail polish/alcohol thing first and see if I can fix it myself.

It really is sad the state of electronic satisfaction: You buy a 700 dollar phone and have to pay 140 bucks less than three weeks later. No thanks.

Re: HTC One (M8): Camera lens cover issue

I personally used a q-tip / alcohol / napkin thing.....

It took the cheap coating right off and the lens looks brand new...

So, it's clear that the scratching was the coating, not the lens....

Now to order a small lens protector....

That is on a lot of screens and shouldn't Wear off so easily, so it's still a defect

I've had a few issues with the email client -- but mainly my gripe is that it just seems to require too many taps. I too would love a imap client -- one that supports IDLE!

Does it matter what kind of toothpaste?

Oh I would agree there. I was just amused that they made such a rookie oversight. At least it's easy enough to fix, but afterward they'll need to clean the cover more often...

I just got the same exact quote.. $140 (case damage not covered by warranty), need to replace battery cover for repair.. I don't think so.. gonna have to take this higher. They are insane if they think I am paying for something that is clearly a manufacturing issue.

It is clearly an issue with a cheap coating of the lens....

It makes the camera un-useable, period.... So, let us know if you make any headway.

I again removed the coating and placed a cut out piece of screen protector on it until I can get a proper lens cover.

Re: HTC One (M8): Camera lens cover issue

I just spent ten minutes with alcohol and a q-tip and it accomplished absolutely nothing other than giving me MORE scratches. It didn't affect the ones that were already present. I wish I could just get rid of this phone now. But nobody will buy it in this condition.

Re: HTC One (M8): Camera lens cover issue

Just spoke with Verizon and they won't cover it because they are claiming damage. If I want it replaced then I have to pay the $100 deductable for my insurance. Screw HTC. I am just tossing this piece of garbage in a drawer and forgetting about it. Consider it a $600 lesson to never deal with this joke of a company.

I took a q-tip... soaked it in alcohol.... applied to the lens and then used my fingernail and scratched lightly on the center of the lens working my was out. Then used a microfiber towel to wipe away and buff.... Then applied another dab of alcohol to the lens and used a paper towel.... then buffed with a microfiber again... took me about 10 minutes to get it all removed, but now it looks brand new... I then cut a small circle out of a un-used screen protector and placed over the lens for now.... I am awaiting a lens protector that I ordered online...

Funny thing is... I still have my HTC Rezound and my original HTC Incredible..... I used both of them for over 2 years each and the lenses are perfect on both... So, it is very clear that the film they used on some of the lens is clearly defective...

The $100 deductible is cheaper than $140 repair. Then SELL the freshly returned phone. Then buy ANYTHING ELSE. Profit? Okay no you still take a loss but if I spent $600 with the intention of regretting it, mark my words thst money would not be for *phones*.

Doesn't work because they blacklist the old phone

The post you quoted was referring to the new phone. That's why they said "fresh" lol
