The HTC One M8 has a hard time with white and yellow in outdoor lighting. This yellow is too overexposed

The M8 takes great shots indoors and does with with close up and macro shots. However, photos outdoors I get mixed results. A lot of the times, whites, yellows and other bright colors get too overexposed.

You can view all the photos I have taken with the MTC One M8 here: https://flic.kr/s/aHsjWWKCTP

Have u tried using HDR mode for this kind of situation?
Outdoor scene seems to have a mixed bag results

Out for a spring walk here in Southern Saskatchewan, Canada...Snow is almost gone! Here are a few unedited shots from the M8...

You should try out HDR mode for those types of shots. I've had really good results with it not blowing out well lit areas

Edit: I can see someone else recommended this already, they beat me to it lol

Added some frames (airmail+grunge) to an otherwise a little plain garden shot. Looks like a postcard now.;)
This is fun.

Thanks for the tip. Going to try HDR in these types of sitatuations.

Losing track of all the camera threads on the M8 forums, anyone would think it's controversial ;)

Anyway,
Insanely fast autofocus.

Yea, I'm appreciating the fast focus more and more every day and realizing that it's a huge advantage this phone has. I'm so used to snapping doubles of everything because most cams just don't auto-focus fast enough and holding them by hand causes blurring as well. With the M8, when I go to delete the doubles I notice that multiple shots are almost always identical in quality and I rarely have blurred photos. That, and the low-light abilities have already captured a few precious moments that would have been lost with any cam I used in the past.

Totally agree. The fact that the the pixels are bigger coupled with a larger aperture mean that shutter speeds can be much faster while maintaining the exposure. This in and of itself should make the M8 camera much more versatile than anything else currently available. I just find it hilarious (am even talking about you AC) when people point out that the M8 allows a lot much light, as if this could ever be a bad thing. You can always increase shutter speed, stop down, or decrease sensitivity (ISO).

It's just something I've wanted for a long time because most of my pics are indoors, of family, friends, and pets, and most phones just don't do a very good job at that. With the M8, I've just stopped worrying about lighting and don't have to miss out on special moments. Nor do I have to tell a group of people, "Hang on, that one didn't turn out, try moving over here."

@KIBBSTER nice pictures but the colors lack some life. In the first picture, the kid on the swing, the sky is completely white but there is some blue around the tree branches, why is that?

Apparently HDR works well at night too

Auto, no editing

HDR, no editing. It's a little blurry but given the lighting, I think it turned out pretty good

I'm sorry but from viewing the photos in this thread and being a photographer the photos shown are flat. For the portrait shots look at the eyes there is no life in them none. You should seem the gleam in an eye whether it's a person or a pet there are none. There is lack of detail on many shots taken as well. There where a few shots the colors look natural and in context not over saturated but again loss of detail. Based on photos I've seen taken on a scale 1-10 I'd have to rate this phones camera at a 4.5.

Some night shot comparisons between the Xperia Z2 and the HTC One M8. Well, these wouldn't be fair comparisons because they were taken 11 days apart and it was a full moon tonight. Also I didn't stand exactly where took these photos either but you can get a general idea.

Re: HTC One (M8) Photo's & Video Thread

You may prefer it - which is totally acceptable, but that doesn't make the camera any better. I've been a photographer for the better part of the last 20 years and I can safely say that the lack of detail and off-center sharpness aren't caused by user error in my case. The camera is mediocre at best, even when compared to last-gen devices such as the Galaxy S4 or the Nexus 5.

I love everything else about this phone, though.

God this is a replay of last years M7. I love the M7 camera (until I got the purple haze failure). Same exact thing was said back and forth last year.

I took this picture last night and I was amazed at how well it came out. An illustration of the sweet spot for this camera.

The only edit was applying the uFocus effect after shooting: https://www.flickr.com/photos/96228372@N06/13737738323/

Shockingly good and I'm a pretty serious hobbyist photographer.

That has been my experience with the M7- if you have some photography chops, you can get a lot out of the camera.
