Not too bad. It takes some good photos compared to a lot of other phones, including the M7. But the iPhone is still slightly better ... Sigh.

Here is a compilation of pics I have taken, including ones I have already posted here, over the last week. Completely stock settings, no tweaking. I will start experimenting with different setups this next week.. I may even start carrying my old Rezound around for 8MP comparison shots.

My 2014 Mazda6 GT outside a Burger King, after an afternoon of driving through Catoctin Mountains in central Maryland, shooting today's snow event. I used the M8 for quick shots that I could post directly from to the web at the moment in time that I was taking the shot, and a Fuji for the higher quality shots that I also wanted. As I have noted in the Camera discussion thread, the M8 camera has flaws when it comes to landscape photography, but it's not as bad as people want to make it seem. And one thing that should not be underestimated - this camera is fast to start and focus. Very fast!

Shot this video in the car as I was driving today (using HTC One M8). Shows the change in weather conditions as I drove higher in elevation. Be sure to watch in 1080p. The first 10 seconds of the video is poor quality (YouTube issue, I think), but after that, it's better quality.

A quick sample shot. 3.3mb file size. Loads of pixel data. Why is everyone fussing about pixels. There's plenty in my photos. Zooming and cropping fine too.

A touch of spring. The first and last shot use the in-camera HDR.

The one thing I continue to be frustrated with is the noise that appears in seemingly well-lit shots. I love everything about this phone, except for the camera. Some shots come out OK, and others are just abysmal when viewing on a computer monitor. The weird thing is, they seem to look much better on the phone screen than on the PC.

Trying to get an image that looks good with trees. This one looks better - upped the saturation a touch, and adjusted white balance to Sunlight (instead of Auto, which doesn't work well on landscape images).

Edit: I'm about ready to give up on this phone. The inconsistent white balance issue is so damn frustrating. The colors just don't look right half the time. Outside on a sunny day is about the least challenging set of conditions, and yet, half the time, this phone can't get that white balance correct. HTC, you have a brilliant phone, and everything else is amazing. You could and should have built a better camera to go with it. So frustrating.

I'm becoming more convinced that the camera and sensor itself is pretty decent for 4mp, but that the processing algorithm that the camera uses needs some tweaking. I took this shot a short while ago, but did some processing in Photoshop (tweak sharpness and color, resize down to 1200 width). The details are good, and the image has some nice sharpness. I just wish the camera's processing could give these same types of results.

I took and posted several pics and typed a long explanation to help others and it was deleted. Frustrating to have wasted an hour of my time. Did I do something wrong or did it get accidentally purged in the mass clean-up?

Those pics you posted weren't showing up for me, maybe they deleted the post because they couldn't see them either? Weren't they dropbox images? They took me to an empty web page.
