HTC One (M8): Texting Issues

I am having the similar issue of pictures not being able to be sent in a timely fashion. Also, Some of my recipients receive the same text multiple times. I also see one text pop up multiple times on my end. Not very happy with this phone right now.

It is not the phone, it is your carrier. Talk to your carrier and they will reset how things go to your SIM and bam, it works. I had problems and Verizon had to clear my old iPhone stuff out of their system and voila, it worked. This was not the iMessage issue, either.

Good luck.

I've noticed this same issue of texting ,(multiples or timing out)..Didn't have iPhone before...i noticed that in one part of my house I had LTE and seemed text and pics would go...I was away for a few days and didn't have issue once...therefore figured my issue was at home...:(...I have airrave also (from Sprint) ...with reading all this forum I decided this was the first time I still had my previous phone and was using it for a mini tablet to make sure I got everything off it and that I really liked the m8 enough to keep it...I shut off old phone and haven't had a issue since...been home for 5 days and working great thinking I'm keeping it :)....ps I didn't change any settings either...thanks guys for ur help and hope this helps you.

my text issues are sporadic and don't necessarily occur when lock the screen. they usually happen when I'm sitting there watching to see if they will go through, because apparently SMS is such a hard concept to grasp for this f'n phone. Im on 2nd phone, 3rd sim card and still having issues....

oh, and verizon messages (messages+) does not work on my wifi at all. i've tried turning everything off except the wifi and it will not send anything, even though that's one of the features it claims to have. had my brother start using messages+ on his S5 and its perfect.

the topper is i have the edge program and verizon wants me to pay off the balance to switch to a different phone, even though I've been stuck with it since it first started having issues the first few days. once i went past the 14 day return policy, they don't wanna hear ****... how convenient nobody told me that if i continued to have issues, they wouldn't allow me to swap to a different phone. spent an hour on the phone with someone the other day trying to get switched the the s5 instead and all they can do is give me a credit, still meaning i have to pay over a hundred dollars for a phone that i shouldn't have to spend a penny more on. sorry, had to vent! lol

Has anyone found a solution?

HTC One M8 on Verizon, I experience this problem on WIFI, 4G, 3G.
Have tried stock messenger, verizon messenger, hangouts, and Go sms, problem is nearly identical through all 4.

I have never had an Iphone, and experience this issue with others who also have never had one. I experience the issue with others on Verizon, and other networks.

I have reset the phone multiple times, pulled the sim card, reset in airplane mode etc. Nothing seems to have changed the frequency of my SMS that don't send. I also get double texts from others fairly often.

Again, I'm on VZW, I use the VZW message+ app, no problems... I've had messages double up maybe once or twice, but certainly nothing to gripe about... I had much more problems with imessage on my i phone....

No sub problem here.

Same issue with intermittent messages not sending/receiving. Network doesn't matter, apparently as I have this issue with people on AT&T and Verizon. Indeed, having them on my plan doesn't seem to matter since the highest sender/receiver of messages to/from me is my girlfriend who is on my plan. I think this must be an issue with the phone, not the carrier.

When you say network doesn't matter are you referring to changing your preferred network setting, or are you talking about Verizon and AT&T? I disagree with you when you say the phone is the problem. If there was an inherent problem with the phone everyone with an HTC One m8 would have the problem, but we don't. I recommend you try changing your preferred network setting if you haven't already. Some people have stated MMS sends faster when set to Global over the other options. Additionally others have said having Global set leads to less time that the phone is searching for signals. A person in Texas reported when set to LTE/CDMA his/her phone would search for a signal for up to 2 minutes when switching between towers, but when it was set to Global it took 10-15 seconds in those same areas.

On my old phone (a Samsung Stratosphere) it only had the LTE/CDMA, and CDMA options, and there would be times when my texts (and/or picture messages) didn't go out (staying in pending status), and times when it would say pending and actually have sent. With my new phone (a HTC One m8 set to Global) everything sends right away. I also find places were I encountered low signals, or slow connections with my old phone seem to be connected at 4G LTE, have stronger signal strength, and faster speeds with my new phone. While the phone itself, the texting app (default on the old phone, but Verizon Message on the new), and other things (Android version 2.x vs 4.4.2) may have been factors in the issues I believe the Global setting is a big reason why things run so smoothly and quickly now.

I am having the same issuses. I got my HTC One M8 (Verizon) in July. After about 3 weeks I noticed my txt were not going through or taking a very long time. After talking with my friend who I was texting, he said he was receiving multiple copies of my texts.

If I restarted the phone I would have a 30 minute window where my texts would go through fast. I went to verizon and got a new SIM card. That did not fix the issue. I was told to contact VZW on the phone. They tried the airplane mode reset, and something else on their end. After that didnt work I tried a hard reset. This seemed to work for another few weeks.

This Tuesday I started having the same issues again. I called VZW tier-two support. They had me turn off mobile data and then turn it back on. Then I restarted my phone. After my phone reconnected to the network the agent I spoke to seemed to notice an issue on her end and went to talk to "someone above" her. When she came back she had me try the safe mode thing again. This did not fix the problem. I asked her what she noticed but she stated that she was just checking something and the issue was not a network issue.

Then Verizon made me pretty angry. They said that since the texts were going through (even though they took forever, and didn't always go through) it was not a network issue. They said HTC is aware of the issue and that I should just wait for a software update. I told the rep that I would not wait for an update because that could take months, if it comes at all. The whole reason I upgraded to the HTC was because Samsung failed to release an update to fix the battery drain caused by its previous update (Galaxy s3).

After a little discussion she agreed to send me a new phone, as ik not every HTC m8 is having this issue. Should be here next week, if the issues continue I'm gonna have to fight with Verizon to switch to another phone.

The funny part is the agent was most likely reading from this site as she asked me many questions that are on this thread. And suggested things that are on this thread and a few others I have seen.

Hopefully this fixes my problem. I love everything about this phone when I am not experiencing this issue.

CGNY87, what texting app are you using? Do you know what kind of phone the person on the other end has? I seemed to have issues with just one user which got fixed with a new prl version too. I am with Verizon and mine seems good now.

I appreciate the advice. I'm not sure how to make these changes. I couldn't find any settings on my phone that were in line with your recommendations. Maybe if I did things would speed up.
I will say that I downloaded GoSMS and I haven't had any issues with texts not sending anymore. It is super slow though. To anyone with this issue that hadn't tried a 3rd party messenger, try one because it seems to have helped my issue, at least in the short term.

I have been experiencing the problem with Messages (default txt app on phone), Hancent and I even tried Hangouts. Still same thing.

I get the delay when sending to anyone, not just the person that says he received duplicates. Its possible other ppl are get multiple txts from me as well but are not telling me. He is aware of my issue and I told him to tell me when he receives duplicates, and its always after a delayed msg.

My buddy that I am texting has an LG G2. No issues from anyone else that he receives msgs from. It its always on the delayed text msg that he gets the duplicates.

Ik its not my phone intentionally sending two because I have all other msg apps disabled when using hancent (primary app I use). Also I have heard it from a few others that they received duplicates from me, always after I have trouble sending them.

The only option I have found to fix this is for me to restart my phone and that will usually result in me being able to send some msgs without delay.

I havent had any messages rejected (sending) yet. Which has happened before. They are just very delayed in sending, sometimes as much as 3-5 minutes.

VZW apparently has no fix and no suggestions. It only started happening when I got my new phone (m8) and a new sim.

It sound like you have tried everything. I hope the new phone works for you.

Ik I will jinx myself now but I have tried one more thing.

I set my max txt limit on handcent to 100. My problem has only shown up a few weeks in, 3 weeks the first time and 4 weeks this time. Im wondering if it has something to do with too many messages in the box.

I cleared out the largest thread and now all are below 100. I havent had the problem reoccur, but it was sporadic to begin with.

I wasn't familiar with the term PRL version, so I looked it up. Did you use the method in the page linked below (even though that says 3G phones only - which means it could cause problems for 4g), or did you use a different method to update?

I also agree with that recommendation. While at work both last week, and this week I took a couple of pictures with my Verizon HTC One m8, and tried to send them to my work e-mail address using the default text messaging program, but never received them. (I use Verizon Messages+ as my normal texting app, but the share feature from within the camera seems to only present the generic texting app as a choice). As a test I tried forwarding the pictures from within the Verizon Messages+ app (since the messages are shared among the two apps). I forwarded the pictures to my home (and work) e-mail addresses, and this time I received them in my e-mails right away. I went back to the default text messaging app, and forwarded from there, and once again they never arrived. Those tests suggest the problem is with the basic text app, so like Chupelo I recommend people having such a problem use an app other than the standard (Android? or HTC?). If you're on Verizon I recommend using their Message app.

I'm also having the same issue and this is after having my new phone for about 3-4 weeks! I can receive and make calls but I cannot send texts all of a sudden, and no idea why!!

I am in no way an expert on anything android so please if this is something I should not have done please let me know. Do at your own risk!!

With that said, I was having the same issue with text messages not sending or being sent with a long delay and sometimes duplicate messages being sent. After browsing numerous forums and posts I have discovered a fix that works great on my phone. I am using the standard HTC messages app, not the VZ one that came with the phone. To fix the problem not only did I have to set the messages app as the default but also had to disable the VZ messenger app. To disable it I went into the settings menu, then app manager, then scrolled all the way to the right to all apps. Scroll down to Messages +, select it and click "disable". After doing so, I restarted my phone and now texts are working great. Have had no issues for 5 days.

Last night/this morning there was an updated version of Verizon Messages in the play store. Aside from saying "bug fixes" there isn't any information on what was changed/updated. One thing I can confirm is that it corrected an issue with sending pictures from the text system to e-mail addresses. Before when sending pictures from text to e-mail it wouldn't be received, but if you then went in and forwarded that picture to the same e-mail address it would be received instantly. Any Verizon users who haven't chosen to disable the Verizon Messages (Messages+) app like dhc8drv wrote may want to download/install the update, and see if your problem has been fixed.

Well, I made it three weeks or so. Now I'm having the problem again. Of course I just sent back my replacement phone last week because I thought I had fixed the problem. Now I have to call and try and get another one sent.

This is really getting annoying, not being able to use a simple function. Should never have given up my S3 (or unlimited data) for this
