HTC One: Speakerphone comes on automatically when placing a call after 4.4 update?

Guys, I also disable chrome and everything is working perfect now ! I have and HTC one , 4.1.2 from AT&T

Happens to me too on verizon htc one m7. One of the supposed loudest phones on the market regularly blasts my eardrums to pieces by turning itself on speakerphone

I tried clearing the phone cache this only helped for one-two calls then started itself after getting a number from an internet search. Just uninstalled chrome updates and disabled chrome hoping this helps

After a few days of running without Chrome and the speakerphone on issue not occurring it's started doing the same thing again! Very frustrating now :(

shider, thx for the tip. I have a Sprint HTC Evo 4G LTE. I spent an hour on the phone with Sprint tech support this morning; they couldn't figure it out and suggested I take phone to service center. After phone call I dug some more and discovered that this isn't unique to Sprint, nor as you point out to KitKat since I only have 4.1.1 on my phone. Checked when latest Chrome browser was released -- Feb 28 -- which was about the time the speaker started automatically turning on when I called someone. So... I uninstalled updates to Chrome, disabled it (ver 33.0.1750.136) and installed Chrome BETA (ver 34.0.1847.62) and the problem is fixed, for now at least.

Hello. This problem is not related to KitKat update but latest Chrome update (33). I have the same issue on HTC One X. It appears after Chrome start. Killing and starting Chrome results in turning on loudspeaker on first call. Problem can be solved by uninstalling Chrome updates (and disabling auto update). Latest Chrome beta works fine.

Ok. What I've discovered is it'll only do it once after using chrome. Especially with favorites. When I go to dial, the speaker turns blue. I switch that off before I complete the call. It does not occur on subsequent calls. Nor does it occur after using another browser. Its annoying yes. But I can deal with that untill we get a real fix.

I mostly use speaker phone for calls, but at the same time I don't make a whole lot of calls. I haven't had this issue so I'm wondering if it's just a bug from the update??? How many of you have done a factory reset after the update and are you still having the issue?

At first I thought it was my fat face hitting the screen and starting speaker mode, then stumbled across this thread and voila! Face isn't so fat after all. It happens all too frequently to me. Sucks.

Yea I was with u... I'd be like "damn face!" Then I read this!!! ....My bad face!

There is a new version of Google Chrome - 33.0.1750.136. Unfortunately, the problem still occurs.

@smartmove. Did you disable Chrome? If not, it is possible that You got latest Chrome again because of automatic updates.

Works great for me with chrome disabled. Anyone know if this is something specific to this version of chrome (and can be fixed in an update) or if it is somehow system related (and needs an Android version update)?

This bug is certainly specific to current version of chrome (beta works fine). But it is also system related. This is because it occurs in only a few manufacturers of smartphones. I have done little research and problems occur in HTC, Sony and LG. Samsung users do not report it.

Small update.
Same problem occurs when using latest Opera with Chromium 33. More info here https://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=351310 and here https://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=352111

I completely removed normal Chrome and only had the Beta installed and still seemed to get the issue after a few hours (unless I missed something with the removal of chrome). Over the weekend I also removed Chrome Beta and have been using the stock HTC browser and since then no issues. Also, I was having issues with intermittent charging and that too has also gone away since completely removing Chrome and Chrome Beta. I think I will stick with the HTC browser for the moment.

Good news for everyone. Google has released new version of Chrome today - 33.0.1750.166. Problem seems to be finally solved.
