HTC tried hard with the 10...but failed

Here's a nice comparison of the various top-end phones under low light. I think the HTC's photos are certainly better than the iPhone's. Do you disagree?

Unfortunately, you are lacking the software update that improved the camera. I would agree HTC should have had the software resolved earlier. If you take photos in RAW format and process them with Google Photos you'll likely get better results.

This is an imperfect comparison for sure but the battery performance seems to be on par at worst.

"I have roughly 8 USB C cables that all work fine and are compatible with quick charge on my G5 and only 2 of these cables work with the HTC 10. None of them work if im not using the power plug HTC provided not even my expensive Anker ones from amazon. HTC really missed hard here"
That seems to be a rather trivial issue in the grand scheme of things, but that's just my view.

If you listened to music through the phone you might have a more positive attitude. Music has charms to soothe the savage beast.

I agree with you on the music and HTC, this is why I'm struggling to return the device. The audio playback is extraordinary.

I don't see how your opinion can be taken very seriously since it is based on an out-dated software version.

Yeah they tried and failed... But HTC admits they failed and addressed at least some of it with a new software release.

Before everyone gets riled up as if im offending their mother, hear me out. I consider myself a phone aficionado. Ive owned every iphone since the original in 2007 and every major flagship android and nexus device dating back to 2009. ALL OF THEM. So I feel Im qualified to critique these phones with some credibility. The HTC 10 is not a great phone. Its a great HTC phone. There is a difference. It seems people are praising it in comparison to what HTC has done in the past instead of on its own right. I currently have in my possession the HTC 10, galaxy s7, LG G5, iphone se and iphone 6s plus. The HTC 10 is the last phone I reach for any given day when im headed out for the day. The build is nice yea, but its lacking overall in major areas. Camera is the worse of the bunch with the exception of the maybe the SE and even that is close. Using the tmobile variant of the HTC 10 which as yet to be updated the camera is horrible and I mean HORRIBLE. Blown out photos, blurry shots, sensor that doesn't focus, auto focus sensor errors, etc...This is not acceptable from a flagship for 700$. I don't want to hear I got a bad unit because the replacement is also doing the same thing. Battery is mediocre at best when compared to the s7 or iphone 6s plus. I can barely reach 4:30 SOT and that's on wifi all day and with location and Bluetooth off. Phone also gets uncomfortably warm after normal use and video playback. Button placement also atrocious. Reaching so far down to access the home and navigation button with such a slippery device is playing with fire. Sense UI is laughable at best. yes you can add themes and its much more toned down from previous years but come on, why are these icons so far apart and small and why cant I customize my grid size like the s7? Also lets talk about charging. I have roughly 8 USB C cables that all work fine and are compatible with quick charge on my G5 and only 2 of these cables work with the HTC 10. None of them work if im not using the power plug HTC provided not even my expensive Anker ones from amazon. HTC really missed hard here and most people are just satisfied cause its the best HTC phone but not even close to the top of the ANDROID phones on the market. Ive settled on the G5 as my daily driver because of the incredible camera, wide angle lens, swappable battery and I actually like the design of the phone once you find one with no quality control issues. Do yourselves a favor, save the 80$ and change and pick up a G5 instead, you will be much happier.

You lost a lot of credibility by saying the LG5 is the best. Like come on now, that phone isn't even better than the G4 before it and you are talking about HTC? I don't care how many phones you want to brag about wasting your money on.

I agree with you. I also have the 10 and for me, as I said before, the camera is garbage and mine exhibits all of those warts you mentioned in your original post. It's unbelievable how bad HTC fans want their phone to be really good. I used to be like them, lol. I've owned a bunch of HTC phones and they just can't tune camera hardware. I'm also on T-Mobile without the latest update, but I just find that to be an excuse. Why are we yet again waiting on another HTC update to fix camera optics? Sorry HTC fans, but not every flagship phone is always waiting on the next update to make the camera work well. Just saying! As I read the comments, it's laughable because y'all truly are blinded. LMAO!

This I can agree with.

Have you tried my suggestion on using RAW and post-processing with another app, like Google Photos? That might help in some ways. You know the firmware fix is coming so a workaround might be enough for a while. I wouldn't count on another phone matching this audio performance any time soon. I really doubt HTC will put a separate DAC and amp into any upcoming Nexus since they are usually sold at a lower price point. The DAC add-on for the G5 may never come here and it won't be cheap. The V10 is comparable but it's huge and the speaker is pretty weak. I never used the phone pre-update so I can't speak from experience, but the camera hardware seems good so I think I'd try to make do until the fix filters down.

Agreed, it's not the best phone. (is there a best phone?) However, it's a better experience than the G4, Snapdragon 820/4 gigs RAM. Better software experience. Battery life is better.

I'm getting off this thread now.

Every post between the first and this one fell for it hook, line and sinker.

I know it's not the first day on the internet for most of you, but just in case, there are plenty of people who feel the need to create tension and drama over the smallest things. Many do it only because they enjoy the tension and drama.

Wait...that sounds as if you were bored this morning and created the screen name and made the post because you were bored and enjoy tension and drama. #amirite ?

Jerry wouldn't do that .. it would violate the rules for one account per person :P.

Oh please. Never did I say the G5 was the best. I stated amongst the ones I tried I preferred it over the other because of the features it provided. Search the interwebs sir, there are many people out there who prefer the G5 because of what it offers in terms of camera capabilities and the ability to swap out the battery. Sure the build quality isn't as good as the HTC 10 which I will never argue, but button placement, camera performance, battery flexibility and chargers and cables actually working correctly are what made my decision. I don't have to validate my credibility by stating the positives about the phone along with the negatives because there isn't a single thing the HTC 10 does better than any of the other flagships I mentioned I own and have tried. Build- s7/s7 edge, Camera-G5=s7, battery- s7,s7 edge, 6s plus.

You know what, I'm going to try because I want this damn phone despite the camera. I'm not at all familiar with using raw files. I'll probably get more out of pro mode based on my old school amateur photography chops. I just didn't want to do that you know. But TBH, I took some low light pics last night with my Nexus 6p for my nephew's high school graduation and I was surprised at how bad the color shift was with no flash. I had to use post editing to dial down the color and raise the brightness or exposure. It seemed to correct it nicely, but I was disappointed in my beloved Nexus. So, if I'm going to be doing post editing anyway, i may as well give the 10 the benefit of the doubt.

I do have one other issue with the 10 and that's its inability to play nice with ”OK Google.” although the complaint may be small, i absolutely loved being able to wake my Nexus with an ”OK Google”command especially if I'm in the kitchen with my hands dirty and I don't want to touch the phone to get my info or set a timer. Are you aware of any HTC workarounds for this?

Ahhh so that explains everything and validates what most in this thread suspected (knew) all along. At least we now know you were just joking this entire time and looking to provide some off color humor.

Truly, it is just my opinion and absolutely no one has to take it seriously as I'm not that serious either. I've just had enough experience with HTC to know better. What I'm really bummed about is how in the world DPR review dropped a comparable to SGS7 score on a pre-release version of this camera. And, it's not even close to the 6p let alone the SGS7. I think that sometimes people want an underdog to win despite inadequacies and are willing to lie about those inadequacies to keep the underdog in the game. That absolutely worked in my case. I fell for the okey doke! Lol, now they kinda got me because I don't want to give up the audio reproduction. But, I won't write another negative comment about this garbage azz camera.. LMAO.. until I get the update! DEAL?

How so? Which of these is inaccurate? Provide context instead of smart remarks.

As far as I know, the 10 DOES NOT have always listening capabilities. So there is no "Ok Google".

And because I joined today that discredits me how? I needed to join sometime didn't I? I spent the majority of my time elsewhere in other forums that have recently died down so figured id go somewhere where theres more traffic and conversations can actually go on. I don't care that the phone is loved in this forums. Does the forum state " only HTC 10 lovers allowed" ? Someone has to provide a contrasting opinion as to not allow you "lovers" to brainwash others into purchasing a device that at best, is maybe the 4th best android option right now.

Because it's a very "trolly" thing to do, and I'm sure you're well aware of that. There's a big difference between just giving one's opinion, and flat out product bashing, not to mention being one's very first post. Congratulations on stirring the pot.

Grrrrr! Thanks dude! Something else to consider.

No problem man. I remember reading that somewhere before the release. I think we're all SOL there.

I'm still debating on this or the 6P or just keeping my 6s Plus. I really want to move back to Android, but there's always something wrong that keeps me where I am.

Its not "trolly" at all. Nowhere did I say it was a piece of crap or destroy it. I clearly said I was far and away the best phone HTC has ever made but that's a big difference from best phone out there. I credited its build quality above all else. Why is this surprising to everyone? When was the last great flagship HTC has put out? Aside from build quality when has HTC has the best of anything in a phone? Come on man, im just stating the obvious and people are upset by it because they spent their hard earned bucks on it. I was very politically correct about how I addressed my dislikes about it and why the other devices were better options. I wish there was a post like mine before I went out and purchased the HTC 10 I could of referenced to and maybe I would of skipped it given its problems.

I don't think that's 100% accurate. The 10 does support always on for "OK Google" from any screen. The feature just has to be enabled from the Google app settings.

Settings -> Voice -> "Ok Google"detection . You can toggle the From any screen option from there.

If I'm wrong, I owe you a slice of cheesecake.

I do like me some cheesecake. I swear I read somewhere that it does not have "always listening" capabilities. Maybe that's only with the screen off. Which is what Chilly was looking for. Maybe it does work when you're actively using the phone, though.
