HTC U11 or OnePlus 5?

well it doesn't say OnePlus can only use 5GB of RAM.
there is only one comment at the end of the page, from a user but that's all

or I'm missing something?
Look at the header

It indicates that the average amount of RAM used is 61% of its 8GB, which equates to 4.6GB

so? At this specific time, moment, use, it's using 61%
please show me where it says "OnePlus cannot use more than 5GB", because I don't read that in the article, and you must have another source since you're so affirmative.

The device does not nead more than 4.6gb. basically by the time 8gb will be needed you will have moved on to a newer device,

It's part of the firmware.

The restriction is there to control just how much can be stored in memory. When that threshold is reached, apps lower in priority will be removed from memory. This is done so that it doesn't get flooded with unnecessary junk that can bog down the system.

The problem is whether there's even a need for 8GB. The 3T ran wonderfully with 6GB, and phones like the HTC U11 run really well with just 4GB.

please show me the source of what you're saying
it's not that I don't believe you but you must have the technical source from OnePlus, so why not giving it?

This isn't limited to OnePlus. Every phone does this.

Have you wondered why you aren't able to use all of your device's memory on average? It's because of this. OnePlus is no different.

You can check out the reviews from other sites. As of right now, I've yet to see one cross over 5GB.

If you're eager to know the source, it's based on my experience with Android devices and discussing with people smarter than me on such topics. While RAM is there to be used, some restrict the amount of RAM apps are able to use due to a number of factors. My Moto Z never exceeds 3GB of average memory used, for instance.

I know, I know. It's not solid hard evidence and as such, you don't necessarily have to believe everything I say. Although I don't think it's an irregularity to see a device not using all of its memory. As of this time, I think it's reasonable to expect that. That said, it still boils the question of whether more RAM is really necessary.

Coming from an HTC 10, the 11 really didn't do it for me. Don't want a glass phone, don't care for a camera, and i do want an audio jack . Only slight plus HTC has in my eyes is a slightly higher res screen. But after having to use my 10 with polarized sunglasses for a year... Never again!

So you would rather have a iphone 7 plus clone, a worse camera that has been proven and tested.

The camera isn't the only thing that matters to everyone, and the one (two sort of) on the OP5 are fine. And if it's that important, buy an actual camera.

I think J R made their reasons pretty clear, do you just want everyone to like the same phone you do?

Anyone can like anything they want but don't justify your reasons by putting down a vastly superior device. Say the HTC u11 is an overall better device but I just want the OP5.

Ah, but that's the problem with opinions being subjective...

Not everyone will agree with you that the U11 is an overall better device.

Yep, it really depends on which aspects of a device are most important. If build materials are most important, HTC just wrote themselves out. If water resistance is most important, HTC is ahead. My priorities are security, updates, camera, build materials and display - first two always there, next 3 change which order and can push each other around. HTC U11 vs OP5 is a question that doesn't really make that much sense for me personally, though I can say most people, most mainstream consumers, given the choice of the two at the same price point, are going to go U11. But we all know those people are going to buy an S7 or iPhone 6s+ anyways.

Pretty much hit the nail on the head there Mr/Ms Eagle. And in my neck of the woods the U11 is close enough to the S8 price wise to make it not a viable option for most people... And who's gonna pick the U11 over the S8?

Much as I personally prefer the OP5, I would actually recommend the U11 to most "normals", that doesn't mean I think it's better, it means I think it's better FOR THEM. Of course, most of them have contracts and I'd tell them to get the S8, or need a budget phone and I'd say a Moto G or E.

Security and updates are quite high on my list too, that's why I bought a Oneplus 5... Much as I like the device, I have zero faith in Oneplus' ability to keep it up to date!

Who? Lol anyone who does research and sees that the u11 has a better camera(dxomark) better software, better battery life( not size but actually runtime and durability according to multiple tests) and better speakers.

If we're still talking about mainstream people, they do exactly 0 research. They either see a commercial or let a carrier clerk pick their phone out for them.

I already told you I don't care about the camera. If i want a great camera, I'll use a camera.

Anyone who DOES care about it and does research should know dxomark is largely worthless.

Better software? No, subjective.

Better battery life? Maybe... I'm currently at 56% remaining with 5 hours SOT, how about you?

Better speakers? Yup, the U11 has better speakers. I don't care though, or get why I should lol.

EDIT: Oh, what do you mean "who?" Do you not know what I mean by normals?
