Huawei Nexus SD810 is a DEAL BREAKER for me

Who gives a dam about 810 vs 808 vs 805. Dam it I am too excited to care. Google is having press event in 8 days.

I believe the Sony Z5 range are the only 810 powered smartphones equipped with dual heatpipes though? Correct me if I'm wrong please! So they should have a distinct advantage over everything that's come before?

I'm pretty confident it will be but IMO it's important to not be too confident about what manufacturers says when they market a product.

Since the beginning of the year, we have seen so much manufacturers coming with a "solution" for the S8xx problem or even denying it but nothing has changed.

To be fair Sony didn't market it though. It was found out via someone disassembling one of the preview units.

And beefed-up physical cooling hardware will do a lot more than the software solutions used by other OEMs. Hopefully!

The hype train be at full throttle. All aboard!

Re: Hauwei Nexus DEAL BREAKER!!

If you did want to avoid the 810 your options are pretty slim.

LG G4
Any Samsung

I do wonder if Samsung avoided the SD810 and put their Exynos in last minute, and that's why they get terrible battery life, because they didn't have enough time to work on the efficiency.

Motorola too!

I'm not scared of the 810. I'm confident it'll be an upgrade over my 800 in the Nexus 5 due to Sony's dual heatpipe cooling setup.

In fact, 4k videos are not that demanding for a S810 and a S808 or even a S805 are capable of recording 4K videos too. So even a downclocked S810 will have no problem at doing it too.

SD800 too. Lumia 930/1520 record 4k and use SD800's.

Don't forget the S810 v2.1 bull**** from One+ ><. Very impressive hardware solution lol.

No, seriously, I'm pretty sure the Z5 will handle the S810 better any other flagship this year. Even if the cooling systen failed, Sony's governors are generally far less agressive than competitors wich will be good with a S810.

Serious question: Who here thinks Google is purposely making what some might call "inferior" devices this year, knowing full well that the SD 820 will be out next year, when the 2016 crop of devices should be powerhouses, with the 14 nm technology? Do you think all of these companies are holding out, because of the whole SD 810 flop? Basically, my question is, should I be concerned in any way that the 810 will probably be under-clocked in this year's Nexus? What positives would that incur, in terms of battery life, and/or performance? Would it be a wiser decision to wait until next September, when the SD 820 Moto X and Nexus comes out? Do you think companies will skimp further on battery even then, to test the effectiveness of 14 nm power efficiency?

Well, for starters I think the whole 810 fiasco is being rather overblown. I've seen multiple reviews of the Sony Z5 Compact and they all state that the phone performs great without overheating and has great battery life. Yeah, the excessive heat caught OEMs by surprise early in the year, but now they've had a while to really get to grips with the SOC and design around the problem (e.g. dual heatpipes in Sony Z5 series).

Secondly, surely the logical thing to do would be to make everything else better to compensate for the 'disappointing' SOC, not worse? How could purposely crippling their own devices help them in anyway? That won't sell units. This is the Nexus brand, the flagship Marshmallow showcase devices.

I think they're trying to make a higher end mid range phone in the 5x and high end in the 6p ... if the 6p rumors are true, other than 4GB RAM, which is probably unnecessary for a Nexus device, specs in 2015 don't get much better. 810, OIS, fingerprint display, 1440p, 128GB option and a nice big 1450 mAh battery, with a premium build ... what more are you looking for?

Specs-wise, not much. I just need assurance that the 810 will behave.

If you're s3 is broken you can get a nexus 6 64 gb for $369.

If you are thinking about the 6p consider this, next year's nexus phablet will pack a 820 processor with quick-charge 3.0.

810 has no standout features and nexus 6 is priced to sell similar if not superior specs for far less and it comes with turbo charging.

Exactly my thoughts. I ended up replacing the screen on the S3, so I think I should be good til next year. I just can't bring myself to get a device with the 810. Although the Moto XPE has the 808, the battery life seems disappointing. So, unless an under-clocked 810 leads to amazing battery life, the best option might be to wait. Hopefully Google and Moto won't go the ridiculous 4K route.

Which will be a few months before a 830 or 850 or 900 processor with quick-charge 4.0 and super-pursuit mode. There is always something better on the horizon. When you need a phone, just get the best phone that suits your needs right now.
