I Almost Jumped off the Android Ship

To the original post.. The problem that u had is the problem most people have when they switch to apple... The older android were just not as solid and fluid as the ones available now... With that said the Dinc ws my first and it will always be special but.. U can out from it... Get a GS3 GNEX or HOX... I'd get the GS3 and wait for a solid JB rom because it's the best pick as far as future proof...

Until the next Nexus phone cones out, the perfect pair, in my opinion anyways, is the Galaxy Nexus and the Nexus 7. I have my Gnex running JB that was leaked to phandroid during Google I/O and my N7 is rooted and unlocked too. I'll never get any Android phone that's not a Nexus. They just always seem to be weighed down with the OEM UI and there's always issues. I had the Droid 1, 2 and X until I saw the light with the Nexus lines. Never going back.

The OG Incredible is still a nice device (if rooted ). I used one from the launch date until this April when I was eligible for an upgrade. I got the Gnex. Awesome phone, rooted first week I had it, and now running Jelly Bean. Gnex, and 7 are the perfect pair. I still use the Incredible as a media device for music and such while working in the yard, and still toy around with it frequently. It was, and still is a great device. I can't kill it. I have CM9 loaded on it and it still flys. I just really wanted the screen size the Nexus has. I'm old, and my eyesight sucks.

If you're someone who is at all tech-savvy, I recommend flashing CyanogenMod onto your old Incredible. I was in the same boat as you- my phone kept giving me the annoying "Internal memory is low" notification, then I flashed CM7 on it and now it's like a whole new phone. No more sluggishness, no more problems.

If you don't mind clearing your phone's apps and settings, installing a custom ROM is the best thing to speed up your old phone.

If you're serious about doing it, I would recommend looking up an official guide. This is just a summary of what needs to be done.

If you're not rooted, you can use Z4Root to root your phone. Then install ROM Manager (from the Play Store), and within that app you can download CyanogenMod 7.2 stable. Make sure you back up your stock ROM though (just in case). Then you just clear the cache, data, and dalvik cache, and just let your phone do all the work. I'm so happy I did it to speed up my OG Incredible.

I absolutely love my SGS2 with ATT (i777). It has an amazing camera and screen. I have Supernexus JB ROM and it is smoking with good battery life. I read all the hype about the SGS3 and I am a phone whore, but I am sticking with my SGS2. Maybe the next round of Nexus phones will pull me away, but you can get some good deals on SGS2 right now since everybody wants to upgrade.

The camera is somewhat lacking on the Nexus, but all things being equal I'd buy another one. The fact the battery can be swapped out makes it better than iPhone. No SD card is annoying, but I move things like Nandroid backups to my server. With unlimited data, streaming from Amazon/Google is easy. If you decide on something else, just be sure the bootloader can be unlocked before you take possession of it.

You realize VZW has the Galaxy Nexus. If you want the closest thing to you N7, but in a phone, the Galaxy Nexus is the way to go, hands down... or whatever the fall brings. I plan on upgrading my nexus to another nexus. Been the best phone I've ever owned, period. I had a thunderbolt, returned it for an iPhone 4, then after 3 weeks, purchased a Thunderbolt outright as I couldn't take it anymore. There are so many features the iphone doesn't have and never will

If you really like that vanilla android, I would go with the next lineup of nexus devices this fall.

After getting a vanilla android tablet, do you really want to get a branded phone? ;)

I have my Maxx (and I enjoy it) but I would trade it in for a next-gen vanilla android phone in a heartbeat!

I've got the N7 and the VZW Gnex and love them both. I'm not switching phones for a while. I'm highly content right now with my Gnex

I, on the other hand, can't stand my nexus and prefer my RAZR maxx to it hands down. My nexus is my work phone and all I get on it is text messages and by the end of the day its already half dead (and that's text messaging only).

The RAZR maxx on the other hand has a beast of a battery and gets much better reception than my nexus does. I've had my nexus since the week before it came out last December and I've had the RAZR maxx since April.

Why hold it to my head? There is no ear piece speaker and the mic works across a quiet room. The Nexus 7 also works very well with bluetooth headsets. So yes I most definitely use it as my main communication device.

2 questions:
1) Can you use the N7 on 'speaker phone' mode, since it does have a speaker and a mic.
2) Will it work with a pair of Android compatible earbuds with an in-line mic?

1) yes it does by default without toggling
2) yes the 3.5mm jack is a headphone/mic combo jack

It will also automatically switch to headset or bluetooth if they are available.

That's really sweet, other than the size factor issue (for some people), it almost seems like there are no drawbacks to doing this, and you save so much money. Did you transfer your Verizon phone number to Google Voice after your contract was up?
