Coming from a BlackBerry Classic. I have now attempted to switch three times to an android device. I am debating going back to my BlackBerry.

I find Android to be clunky and almost unusable.

I get that BlackBerry is dead or dying. That is why I tried three times to leave.
Suggestions on resources to aid the inevitable move?
To be fair IOS is worse.

Can you elaborate? Maybe compare to what BBOS does that you like?

I find making and receiving calls MUCH more difficult. On BB10, I would just begin typing a contact and the number would come up. There was a physical call/hangup buttons so I never inadvertently called or hung up on anyone. I have hung up on folks due to my check touching the screen.

The email and text functions are close, but not equivalent. That is likely due to the Blackberry software carrying over and the compromises required of that.

I frequently find apps are inadvertently opened or closed. I cannot count how many times I have had to start a function over because the app closed while working with it.

I have dozens of pictures from the inside of my pocket (since deleted). I have now deleted the camera from my home screens which seems to have cured the problem. But I need to go to the app drawer to take a picture.

I find opening and closing apps to be clunky. The new speed key helps, but it still requires two concurrent presses unlike before.

I understand the app drawer is needed due to more app availability, but navigation is a bit of a pain.

Bottom line, I can MAKE android do most of what BB10 did. But it feels like I need to use brute force, rather than have it "work."
For other line items, there is no cure. The phone call/hangup function is on screen. The problems inherent with that are here to stay.

I have other issues, with Enterprise functioning and security, but that is an entirely new thread.

I suspect it is operator error. I get that. But I have had two Android devices for over a year and I am not getting better at this....

One thing I do is when I connect a call, I lock the screen. This eliminates the accidental touches.

Edit: What devices have you used before?

I have used a dozen or more Blackberries over the years. Most recently the Blackberry Classic and Priv. The Priv would be recognizable by any android user. I now have the Key2. Other than the keyboard it is basically a standard issue android Oreo phone. The family has all manner of IPhones. 5, 6, 7 and 8. I tried them intermittently, but absolutely not a fan.

That said, the power button on the Key2 locks the screen, but it also hangs up the phone. Ask me how I learned that.... (I just now changed that setting, I will see if that allows me to lock the phone while talking.)

I also do not like the way android deals with downloaded music. I have tried several apps and I now use Doubletwist. It functions OK, but I lost all the functions on the headphones and volume rockers that I had on BB10.

:D good idea. Thanks for the multiple responses BTW. It is appreciated.

You're welcome.

Not sure about the rest of your concerns. The downside is, I've been using Android my entire smartphone experience, so for me, (please no offense), I don't see an issue with some of what you listed. Chalk it up to that's what I am used to.

About to head off to work. I'll try to remember to come back in the thread when I am free.

Side note: Something to consider is OEMs can do whatever they want to Android. BB did something out of touch with the power key to hang up. I never heard of that before.

It's actually a setting in my Pixel 2 XL, in the accessibility menu, to use the power button to end calls. It's off by default though, rather than on by default (as it sounds is the case on the BB).

Shouldnt your screen automatically turn black when you put it to your ear during a call?

And when your phone is in your pocket do you leave it with its screen on?

another thing you can do to lock the screen, I did it with my priv and now with my s9, is to use the screen lock shortcut. I tap it on the screen and it locks. unlocking is as normal for whatever phone you are using. I don't lock my screen on phone calls but you can minimize the phone app and still stay on the call.
