I can't deal with the nexus 5 battery life anymore...

You might want to try out Greenify app instead of uninstalling the apps that are waking the phone up. Saves a hell lot.

Or at least a larger portion of it than 12 reviewers, don't you think?

This thread is filled with people that agree the battery life is bad, as is this forum. Making up fictitious numbers in your favor like a dozen doesn't make you right. Furthermore, this thread was made to get help with battery drain issues. Not to be a forum for you to act internet tough and start a pissing war. So if you have nothing useful to contribute, which as all can see you don't, start your own thread to argue over.

Do you need to be rooted to use that app? Seems a lot of these apps designed to help with battery drain require the phone to be rooted.

I have tried different settings and different apps, have settled on BatteryGuru that is made to work with the Snapdragon chip on the Nexus 5.

Not perfect, but working better for me than other methods.

This forum has people that are iPhone and some Samsung fans that hate Google and want to pump their brand by trashing the Nexus 5. The Nexus 5 is in my opinion the best unlocked phone for under $500. The battery is good but you can't surf the interenet, facebook and play games for extended periods with out a partial charge.

If all you are going to do is text, email and voice calls you can get two days out of one full charge since I have done it a few times. That said I have a small 12000mAh Double USB Portable External Battery Power Bank Charger that I got off of Ebay for $15 that I can plug in and boost my N5's battery that will get me through more than 10 hours screen time.

Well said !

Look, there's nothing wrong with the nexus 5's battery life in and of itself ... The problem is that its peers have much larger power sources, so comparatively speaking, the nexus comes up short.

And I don't have a bone to pick with Google , I loved my 5... I just kind of realized how much I had to manage around it, power-wise, once I replaced it with a phone with a larger pack.

So I have a nexus 5 coming Tuesday. At first I was excited that maybe these battery issues were addressed, now I hear it's just as bad or worse than when I iriginaly had the phone back in April. I'll use it to see for myself, but I fear I may end up returning it in the end. I wonder if android L would improve it greatly?

And I am sure they are all sincere...but they are not the norm. Even Closingracer finally admitted that...he said he simply has higher expectations for battery life, and that it was decent when he was on AT&T. That means it's not the hardware thats the problem.

Making up fictitious numbers in your favor like a dozen doesn't make you right.
I linked to well over 100 actual user reviews...I did not fake those. Those are not benchmarks...they are actual people (just like the ones on this forum) giving their opinion about Nexus battery life.

Furthermore, this thread was made to get help with battery drain issues. Not to be a forum for you to act internet tough and start a pissing war.
If people make false statements, I am going to call them on it. I think it would be a disservice to forum readers not to. It's up to you if you want to respond. If battery life is so objectively and obviously awful on the nexus, there is nothing to worry about, right? People will see through my "deception". I am simply posting evidence...people are free to draw their own conclusions.

I have no idea why some people seem to have a jihad against the nexus battery life...but like the supposed camera problems, it is greatly exaggerated IMO.

Yeah, I gotta agree with you on that side of things... good analogy too... I remember reading plenty of stuff about how hard the Nexus 5's camera sucked... then I got one, took some pics and wondered what everyone's problem is... pics came out pretty good. There are probably quite a few people carrying the "Nexus 5's battery sucks" banner that have never held the thing, never mind used it through enough cycles to give a worthwhile opinion.

Power users are going to be pissed off with their batteries no matter what size is in there, and light/moderate users will be charging it once a day like any other phone, so what difference is if you plug it in at 25% or 45%? It's those medium+ users that find themselves having to top off their phones mid-day that get kind of impacted the hardest. So when someone has to reach for their brick mid-afternoon where the dude with the M8 doesn't, that they get annoyed is understandable.

I for one while like Samsung am looking at other devices like the nexus 6 currently and maybe the G3. Might look at Motorola but maybe. The nexus 5 battery barely lasted me a full day and I had to turn on airplane mode if I wished it lasted a whole day

Except people come here to post threads about their troubles. People whose phones are working just fine don't post threads. These forums cannot be taken as evidence. Too much selection bias.

^This

If you are visiting a forum reading a lot about the problems a device has, it's not because the device per se has a lot of problems. It's because those people who have a problem are writing about them.

My batterylife is fine. 50% after 9 hours, with 2,5 hours screen on time. I would say that is nice and for me, it's sufficient.
Therefore I would not start a thread here saying "hey, my battery works fine, can you help me with that?".
Counting the people posting problems in a forum and thinking: "that device is a real bugger" is the wrong way and conclusion. People will always mainly post their problems here. 20 people posting their problems won't show the 100 other people who don't have the problem.
So don't get fooled.

EDIT: you can always start a poll with
* yes I have battery troubles
* no my battery lasts like forever

;)

Closingracer you have admitted you are a Samsung fan and not a fan of anything Google or it's services in the past. Like you I just got a Samasung Tab S for my wife and it is a great device. You own a Samsung Note 3 that isn't even the same type of device markets as a much smaller Nexus 5.

In my opinion Samsung has a poor record for updating the OS. However I don't go to the Samsung boards to post my opinion. As much as I love my wife's Samsung Tab S, I will be buying a Nexus 8/9 Volantis Tablet. Since I only trust Google products to keep their products OS up to date. My wife on the other hand can't stand software changes and won't install any update for her Tab S for the life of the Tab S. Samsung works for her but I don't like Samsung's track record on updating the OS for my personal use. To each their own both Google and Samsung make great hardware.

As I have told you before on this battery issue I can get two days use out of my N5. Also, I could buy two Nexus 5's for the price of a Samsung Note 3 and swap the Sim card as the other one charges. Since the Note 3 is a 5.7" phablet it should have a bigger battery. The Note 3 and N5 are for two different markets.

I installed greenify which showed me dashclock widget and the extensions were keeping my phone awake. I removed the widget this morning and am 88% battery 8 hours later with 35 min of screen on time. I'm very pleased with this. I really liked dashclock but the battery life I am getting without it is worth not having it.

Greenify has helped me exceptionally in easing my battery drain. I still have mystery drain coming from places I have been unable to detect with greenify or wake lock detector

I liked the nexus 5 except battery life which is sub par and no WiFi calling. Only reasons why I got a note 3 is because of the battery and no WiFi calling. Better battery and I would live without no WiFi calling. Nexus 6 is on my watch list as long as the battery lasts more then 9 hours without me putting on airplane mode

You can see my previous threads on the nexus 5 battery life issues I have had.... Thing couldn't last pass 13-16 hours like my note 3

Is there a way to eliminate the selection bias? Can we get evidence to prove whether the Nexus 5 (or any phone, for that matter) has good or bad battery life?

I was getting excellent battery life. Yesterday I barely used my phone and I went to bed with 95% battery life. This morning after receiving a phone call my battery was 42% without even using it. A reboot fixed it but still it's annoying. The only thing I can think was to uninstall Amazon Music just now as the stupid app keeps running in the background and no matter how many times I force stop it keeps starting up again. I will just use Google Music instead. More albums to listen to then the pathetic amount Amazon Prime gives you.
