I got an Android, but want to go back to the iPhone. Why is this?

It makes me laugh when people start "fighting" over this kind of thing.

Ladies and gents, lets try to remain civil, productive and on topic. Personal attacks, etc are bad - sharing ideas is good. Remember that accusing someone of trolling is a form of trolling, and all that. Lets try to keep PUPPAH in mind and as always, if you don't like a post, ignore it and move on or if you feel it violates the forum rules, hit report and we'll check it out.

Thanks again. Your friendly neighborhood moderation team.

Someone I know wanted to "learn smart phones" but "didn't want it to be too hard" so chose an iPhone. I guess the prevailing opinion is that I phones are easy, plus they're a status or fashion statement for many. However, there is no way that my Nexus 5 is difficult or more difficult to learn, or even this phone, the LG870. And this phone would win 0 awards for attractiveness of design but my Nexus 5 is a different story - I think it looks far better designed than the iPhone. I realize some here won't agree. But I really don't see the appeal of the iPhone over the Nexus 5. That same person was shocked to hear how much these phones cost off contract. IMHO, often the iPhone is just the easy choice for the uninformed who don't read up on tech but only recognize the brand name and want what they're favorite celebrity has. I'd bet that's true of the vast majority of iPhone users. If you took away the brand name and said it was a cheap, generic device, most would probably flock to Android.

Mrs, that's an interesting concept and, I'm sure for SOME iOS users is even true. I don't study the market so I won't say 'VAST MAJORITY'. It's interesting how so many here, in these forums, have stated that they believe that iOS users chose their platform out of some sort of ignorance or such but imply or insinuate that android users make an 'informed decision' and, therefore, chose android.

...just interesting.

Well, you're here arguing or defending your choice, which is a far cry from all those who don't who are the ones picking up iPhones as a brand name thing. If many people thought about it, as you do, they'd choose Android. Many want to be able to add cool widgets and live wallpapers and want lots of free games and apps. If they knew about it. Which they don't.

Its a common occurrence in real life, I know I'm not the only one around here who has run into iPhone users who got the device because it was:
1.) The phone their friends or family had
2.) Thought they were "In style"

That's the thing Apple has for them. Brand Name recognition is one of their strengths. Everyone knows that Apple logo.

...but do you believe that the same can not be said for android users? Okay, so maybe not too many folks accuse android of being 'in style' but this is a big planet, with lots of people...I'm sure some do. My sister has an S3 and has no clue, whatesoever, in any universe, parallel or this, why it would be worse or better than a blackberry. She happened to like the way it looked (at least that's what she said, so I'll have to trust her on that) and the price was right.

And every time you see a computer in use on a TV show it's an Apple. It's a brand recognition thing for a lot of consumers - for Apple people to argue otherwise is just silly. :)

Well, apple has the benefit of its own services in addition to google's, but which also has the downside of costing them money to maintain, unlike google's services, which are either free (for OEMs) or earning revenue (for google).
Apple has insanely high profit margins. They could charge a lot less than they do and still make plenty of money. That is why I can't buy the "but it costs them money to maintain their systems" stuff. They are making tons of money despite these costs, so that can't be the reason for the high prices.

Hmm, why would you say BlackBerry instead of Apple? BB10 is very cool, the only thing that would make it undesirable for many is lack of apps, but that can be helped too, in part. I know you don't care much for BB. I didn't either, until I saw a Z10.

As does Samsung. Costs on a 5S and a Galaxy S4 are probably close, and a S4 and 5s off contract are close to the same price. So, the same could be said for Samsung.

And many want a great out of box experience, which they can get from an iPhone. Plus, another thing that cannot be underestimated is Apple's second-to-none customer service. No Android manufacturer even comes close in that area.

Why do you assume they are close?

Can you give me an example of something Apple's support does that Google's does not do?

Does Google even have a number to call? I'm asking because I don't know. Apple has excellent phone support, online chat support, and their network of Apple stores. I can walk into an Apple store with a problem, and walk out with a fixed phone or a replacement phone, and it will be set up just like the one that I walked in with. No Android maker does that.

Any top Android device is going to provide an excellent OOB experience. Probably better than Apple.
