I got an Android, but want to go back to the iPhone. Why is this?

Re: got an android but want to go back to iphone. why is this

Upwards of 90% easily. We here at mobile nations are barely even a tiny fraction of total Android users. Glance around...Everyone is running pretty much stock. Likely the same percentage of iOS users never move the first home screen apps around.

That same percentage also don't know what a ROM does. Nor care about Android being open and free or any message Google throws out. They went to the store and bought a phone. If they have issues...they go buy a different one or get it replaced. That goes for both platforms. The Apple Store is always packed with people replacing phones with issues.

Beamed via my Nexus 7 from the AC Forums app.

Well said. Most of my friends with S4s use the stock keyboard, stock launcher, stock...well, everything.
They have no idea what a ROM is or how to install it. I assume the jail breaking community is also a very small fraction of Apple users, even though it is a lot easier to do than rooting

Re: got an android but want to go back to iphone. why is this

Some phones are for some people, some aren't. I love both my HTC One and my iPhone 5. If you like social networking, pictures, and simplicity: go with the iPhone. If you like an open file mini computer and customization: go with an android. If you want both, go with both :) good luck, I hope you grow content with either device!

Re: got an android but want to go back to iphone. why is this

this is my 5th time trying android and i have always gone back to iphone. why is this? i know over all android is superior in everything but everytime i use the android it seems like its just worse off in everyway for battery, camera, speed, texting and anything else. i have the lg g2 but been an iphone user my whole life. what do i do to stay on android. any suggestions?

What features are most important to you? When you can answer that, you will know for sure which platform is better.

I only recommend the iPhone to the people who fit this criteria: You have to not care about what iOS can't do (and a lot of people don't), and you need to have deep pockets (because Apple products and services are always expensive).

If you fit those criteria, you should buy Apple. If you do not, you should buy Android.

Re: got an android but want to go back to iphone. why is this

Yah but it seems like iPhone had a better internet browsing time then any android. You could browse the internet for 19 hours listen to 40 hours of music and stream video for ten hours just about. It seems like the battery doesn't drain faster on anything

It may seem that way. Actual objective tests say otherwise.

When I have used friend's iPhones, I do not see this long battery life everyone is claiming. I only see it when they start turning stuff off. You can do the exact same thing on Android by turning stuff off too.

Re: got an android but want to go back to iphone. why is this

Yeah but I wouldn't enjoy browsing the internet using Safari no matter how long it can be. On a 4inch non-HD screen btw.

How exactly do these phones browse the web for 8 hours when it's screen on time couldn't possibly be that long?

I didn't make it through the whole thread, did you list the android phones you tried?

Re: got an android but want to go back to iphone. why is this

So go back to apple and enjoy being under their control. Apple hasn't put out anything new software wise until they updated ios7 and that was just a visual update really. Android = professional users
Apple = rookie/old people users.

Re: got an android but want to go back to iphone. why is this

^ Well, I'm not a rookie so that must mean I'm old. Jeez, I've gotten old somehow.

Hmm... I've always wondered about the price argument regarding iPhones.

As we are mostly generalizing in this thread, wouldn't it be fair to assume that the majority of people who are buying iPhones are getting them for $99-199? Isn't that the same price range as Android devices? I will say that you will be dishing out a lot more money on Apps on iOS vs. Android, but as far as the cost of hardware, it's comparable. Of course, the G2 that the OP has probably was $50 or free, but, still. I wouldn't say that $199 is out of reach of people when you consider the starting price of most Android flagships. Just curious why it's brought up is all (not trying to attack you haha).

---

When I only carried one phone, I found myself going back to iOS a lot as well, and I think it was more because of how many options Android had. Too much ROM flashing and too many homescreen setups that I just wanted to use a phone as-is and not worry about things FC-ing because of incompatibility or whatever. I'm carrying both a Nexus 5 and a 5S now, with the Nexus as a secondary (so it doesn't get much actual use). Maybe I just don't use my phone much, but I get great battery life out of the 5S, even compared to my Droid Maxx I used to use. Two solid days of use, and three if I want to live on the edge a bit. My Maxx would give me about the same, but a bit more like 3 days.

I dunno, just use what you want to use and are comfortable with. Don't feel like you have to use Android because forcing yourself to do something you don't want to do isn't exactly the best way to go about some things.

No. Not really. You are not paying $99 to $199....that discount is only if you bind yourself to a contract and pay a subsidy.

A 16 gig iPhone 5S currently retails on Amazon for $712. - Amazon.com: Apple iPhone 5s, Silver 16GB (Unlocked): Cell Phones & Accessories

By contrast, a 16 gig Nexus 5 is currently $350 - https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...om/us/?playredirect=true&hl=en&token=ajH1o2be - Thats the same price as a now-ancient iPhone 4S btw. The Nexus 5 matches the iPhone 5S spec for spec, and in many ways is significantly better (OIS Camera, display with 4 times the resolution, wireless charging, ect...).

You are not paying a premium for an iPhone because of it's functionality. You are paying for the logo and support/ecosystem.

I will say that you will be dishing out a lot more money on Apps on iOS vs. Android, but as far as the cost of hardware, it's comparable.
It's not even close to comparable. The best iphone on the market right now has a display with resolution lower than Android devices made 3 years ago. The only spec the iPhone has to gloat about is CPU speed, and even that is matched by several Android phones now as well. It is no longer the top dog in battery life or camera quality. And I'm not the only one who thinks so.

When I only carried one phone, I found myself going back to iOS a lot as well, and I think it was more because of how many options Android had. Too much ROM flashing and too many homescreen setups
Buying Nexus devices stopped me from ROM flashing. I discovered that the main reason I was flashing ROMs was mostly just to get vanilla android back. I have never once felt the need to flash a ROM to my Nexus 5.

I had an HTC Rezound with an extended battery...I used to go 2 days between charges on that thing. This was on ICS, and with Sense pollution running in the background, and without turning down the display or turning off LTE. Embedded batteries are the devil.

I dunno, just use what you want to use and are comfortable with.
I agree, but the point of debates like this is to determine what you might be comfortable with. Most people don't have the time or money to buy and try every phone out there. Thats why we (and I include myself) come to forums like this...to get opinions from people who have already tried them or had experience with them.

Android is not for everyone, but IMO, it is for MOST people. MOST people are not going to be satisfied with IOS's limitations or Apple's expense.

Sounds like you might just be used to the look and feel of iOS. The G2 is a great phone with better battery life and specs than iPhone 5s. With all the options in Android it might take a while to customize the phone exactly how you want it.

If you still have the G2 I suggest rooting and installing Xposed framework to improve the UI, remove bloatware, change the keyboard (Swiftkey or Swype), install a camera mod (Xdabbeb's or Jishnu's) to improve camera app, and use Viper4Android to improve EQ settings and increase speaker volume.

I also suggest changing the launcher to Action or Nova. Both look better than LG launcher and come with some nice features.

I think a lot of people would disagree with that. Especially if you were to state it on an iOS-centric forum like, oh...say...iMore. You said MOST people. Do you, somehow, know most people? My wife refuses to try an android phone no matter how much I extol them. Stubborn.

Some people don't know what the experience will be on an HTC One vs. an S3 mini vs. a Nexus 5 vs. G2 vs. an S4 vs. a Note 3 vs. an Optimus G Pro, etc. ... but they know what the experience will be on an iPhone because they've either used one or someone they know has one. So, they opt for the familiar to avoid a learning curve. There's all kinds of reasons. I know a cardiac surgeon that uses a 5s. I should ask her why she didn't choose a S4 or the like, since android is for 'MOST' people.

I think a lot of people would too. But not MOST people.

Sales figures and marketshare numbers don't lie. The vast majority of people buying $200 phones on contract are not buying iPhones. And the numbers for Apple go downhill from there. This is clearly not because people don't know about Apple.

You said MOST people. Do you, somehow, know most people?
Do you? How do you know I'm wrong?

I have an opinion just like you do. If you have better sources than me, feel free to present them. Marketshare + Sales + what I see and experience in the real world = most people IMO. You are allowed to disagree with me if you want. But all the evidence I have seen tells me that it is indeed "most" people.

I should ask her why she didn't choose a S4 or the like, since android is for 'MOST' people.
Maybe she is just one of the exceptions? I did say they exist. The fact that she doesn't like Android is not evidence I am wrong.

I agree there are more android handsets out there. Android covers the lower end, a market Apple, for whatever reason, ignores.

Not just the low end anymore. Have you looked at Samsung's Sales of the Note and S line? They sell millions of their high end devices. Android covers all the ends of the market (midrange, low and high end device markets). iPhone may still sell the most because mind share mostly, but android is up there too.

...
Well when I speak of the cost of the device, I'm speaking from the perspective of the majority of users in the United States. People go into the store and see the on-contract price because they is all they know about when it comes to the cost of a phone. Obviously the actual cost of the phone is broken up and put into the plan but most people don't see it that way. Never mind looking at the cost of a device outside of the US where many devices cost much more (i.e. Nexus 5). I'm not comparing the actual material costs, but the cost that people pay out of pocket, at the store for the phone. Of course you can get into specs and get into the perceived value of the phone, but I wouldn't expect a lot of people to go into a store and say, "I don't want the iPhone because it doesn't have an HD screen", or, "I don't want the Galaxy S4 because it doesn't have a 64-bit processor."

---

I would also say Android is perfectly fine for most people, at least recently. You have all these OEM skins which make the device more user friendly, and devices are available at all price points. But there is also an argument for people buying an iPhone because they can get help from friends/family who use one. Bleh -_-

I see a lot of people on the train with Samsung phones and a lot with iPhones. They all look content. What else matters?

Why would u want to switch if the iPhone suits your needs better? If the iPhone is better for you in every way then stick with.
