I hate to admit it but a factory reset fixed a lot of my woes not that I had many.

I was going to let my kid try out the phone and just blasted it out since its pretty easy for me to recover as I live in the cloud. She only messed with it a few hours and I reset again and setup from scratch. This thing is way more responsive and the battery is lasting much longer under much heavier use. You know how it is when you are setting up again from scratch. Downloading apps and setting things up. I've hardly put a dent in this battery and everything is snappy. I've never been a fan of the factory reset cure all but I can say 100% its made a difference for me. And honestly it kinda pisses me off that a mature OS like Android still behaves like this. Should we really be treating these devices like they still have ghosts in them? I can't help but blame the carriers (att in my case) for fragmenting Android with their customizations and lack of updates but still. It should be better than this. But I digress. If you doubt the reset fix give it a try. It worked for me.

I did one on mine (International Version) and gave it to my buddy to use on AT&T since his old phone was dead. He advised his phone is running great. He left the house at 11am today (100%) and got home around 11pm-12am tonight with 67% battery. He streams a bunch at work, some calls, ~100 or so text, and 1 hour of gaming. I was pretty shocked he was only at 67% lol.

Same as what i did. I was having problems with wifi tethering. Then a fb forum member advised me to reset the phone which i did. Problem fixed!

Agree 100%, Google has a long way to go to get this thing dialed in. Overall I love Android with all all the great customizations you can do to it, but I can see a day where I grow tired of having to screw around with a slab of plastic and electronics and just jump to iPhone. I'm a long way off but I'm so busy with my business that what little down time available I have no desire to spend it trying to tune a device that consumes more and more of my time.

I have to agree. While the Android system allows tons of customization, it also requires a great deal of time to tune your device, remove carrier bloat, and get it right. We can make fun of iOS all we want, but the reality is that it just works fine for most people without any need for them to spend time messing with their device.

The next version, marshmallow, will be my break point: it either is quick, stable, and doesn't require me to spend more time that I want messing with it, or I'm likely moving on.

I've actually been thinking about using strictly nexus devices next time for this reason. I want to find out if its better on pure Google devices without all the carrier and manufacturer "improvements". I hope it is but I just can't do an iphone but continuum on windows 10 phones does look pretty interesting.

Just wait till the new Windows Phones start rolling out. Solid UI and camera with no need to worry about the many faults of Android

I have looked into Windows phone before -- sadly it just doesn't interest me.

I've never considered anything but Android as an option but there are rumors of a Surface phone launching next year. After recently getting a Surface 3 to use as my primary PC, I'm pretty intrigued about a Surface phone.

It's not better. I've had the nexus 4,5, and 6, along with tablets, and I can tell you it's not better. Android is Android. It's just not as smooth and optimized as iOS. The nexus 6 was actually the buggiest phone I've ever owned. It was so horrible it scared me away from Android and I bought an iPhone 6. I've since cautiously came back and I now own both an iPhone 6 and an LG G4. Though my iPhone is currently up for sale as I just can't justify owning 2 expensive phones.
Side note: I've also owned a few Windows phones and they weren't any better. People talk about Windows phone running better on low end hardware, well that's a lie. Budget Windows phones are laggy as hell. I'm talking, even the home screen itself has tons of redraws and you literally get a loading circle saying "please wait" just to go back to the home screen.

Could you tell me what was wrong with the Nexus 6 experience besides the camera? I've heard that its pretty smooth with no lag. I like big phones so the 6 in screen is a plus in my book.

How is this even possible? Mine is at 63% after 8 hours of rather light usage. Screen on time just shy of 2 hours.

Not sure -- I was shocked as well but he did. It never did that for me when I had it haha. I never did the factory reset though (I did when I helped him set it up to wipe my stuff out).

My nexus 6 was very buggy. Lots of lag, freezing up completely, app freezes, my screen kept freezing half of it, the other half working but very slow...ah, so many things. My back was also lifting slightly but that's more of a hardware thing. I had to restart it daily, many times by holding the power and volume buttons because the phone was completely frozen. Hopefully it has improved with software updates but the point is nexus is not immune from the regular Android woes. Based on all the other people with similar issues at the time I opted not to replace it and just jumped ship.

I have been holding off doing this, but i might give it a shot

I came to this G4 from a nexus 5 (which was my first Android) and I really miss it. If I could stick this G4 camera into a nexus 5 and get a little bit bigger battery I'd never look back. Let's hope this nexus 5 2015 is just that. If so I'll be switching back.

This G4 is still running really good though. Been using it all day and its so much better than it was.

Just for clarification: Your device got slow / buggy over time, right? It didn't behave that way right out of the box? I am just asking because I am getting a NIB G4 in a few days and wonder if I should perform a factory reset before I even set it up?

Isn't doing a factory reset right after it comes from the factory redundant?
