My software version ends in .10, and the newest one ends in .12, but it still says no updates available.

Before I even got my S4, I was at extreme odds at which phone I would use my upgrade on. I spent hours researching and comparing. I am loving everything about the S4, but something tells me I missing out on something with the HTC One for some reason. Everybody is saying that it's the best Android out right now, and nobody is really saying that about the Galaxy S4. I love my S4 and it's awesome, but the HTC One is just so beautiful, and the speakers are a huge selling point as well. How are you guys liking the HTC One and should I consider swapping?

Okay, maybe it's that reviewers do a comparison of the screen, but don't do comparisons WITH SUNGLASSES on...maybe that's the difference.
Dont confuse brightness with readability. The one is brighter but suffers from too much glare. With polarized lenses on the s4 is easier to see outside.

You're only allowed one exchange. From there he would have to sell the phone and hope he gets enough to buy the other up front.
OP, have you used the one in person? If not, I suggest going in store and getting some hands on with it. Remember, it doesn't matter what everyone else says about the phone. It's what functions best suit your needs. Kind of sounds to me like the s4 suits your needs, but everyone else opinions are swaying you to reconsider.

And what will you do when, after a few months, more phones come out? Will you start feeling like you're missing out on something again? Will you consider swapping again?
There will always be new and better phones on the market. You have to learn to live with your choices.
Full disclosure: I don't have either phone. I have a Galaxy Nexus, which I have had since the day it was released. It still suits me just fine.
Aha! A perfectionist! I understand those because I am one too.. I want to make sure im getting the best one possible..

In my opinion:
One advantages:
Better speakers
Better screen
Lighter manufacturer overlay
Feels nicer in hand
less/zero lag
All capacitive buttons
Better low-light camera
GS4 advantages
Thinner
Lighter
More software features
Bigger screen
SD card slot
Removable battery
No menu bar
Slightly better daylight camera
Newer Android version
Battery life is reportedly about equal (actually, some say the One is better, other say the S4 is better, so I averaged the reports).
Heck, I'll throw in the Nexus 4 too
Nexus 4 advantages
Stock Android
Latest version of Android
Guaranteed quick updates for at least a couple of years
Lower price
Zero lag
So it depends on what your priorities are for each phone. IMO, Nexus 4 ≥ HTC One > Galaxy S4.
So you can spend the next two years worrying about the good points of the other phone.
Or do what I am planning, and spend them enjoying the good points of whichever one you get.
