I have 15 days to exchange my S4 for an HTC One

Just isn't true!
The one is eay to read in sunlight....i've had no issues with or without sunglasses! I won't speak on the SG4 as i have only read the reviews about poor performance in sunlight, however, i have not witnessed it.

I work in a gas station and a friend came in with his S4 and I walked to the sunniest area of the property and compared the screens with my DNA and yes my DNA was far easier to see with both phones brightness turned up so know I know for a fact when i here someone say they have no issues in bright sunlight they are full of it.the S4 is a nice phone but the screen was the deal breaker.

Madlaw,

Where'd u find the information about polarized screen on the s4?

from what ever phone I feel like using today.

Check out gsmarena's comparisons of both screens. They prefer the S4 in bright sun light and that matches my own experience.

Who is full of what? Perhaps research and learn before you falsely accuse.

"Where the One runs into a problem is sunlight legibility - it's good, but not great. It's comparable to that of a Sony Xperia Z and noticeably better than that of the HTC Butterfly. However, the Galaxy S4 screen is just less reflective, giving it better sunlight legibility even if the maximum brightness is lower."

Does everyone know that max brightness on s4 can only be achieved if set to auto brightness (unless rooted)?

I had an S3 and EVERY review, when it mentions upgrading from the S3 to S4 says it's not worth the cost for the very minor upgrades over the S3. Prove that statement wrong. Anybody.

That said, I like my HTC One much better than my S3. No lag, better screen, 32GB of memory on board trumps a Class 10 SD Card no matter the size. No stutter when streaming bluetooth through my vehicles, speakers, Beats Audio, (I jog with earbuds, and it sounds awesome) better looking stock apps (Calendar, Weather, Toggles, Blinkfeed, etc) and Zoe's.

Don't take me wrong, the S4 is a nice phone with a lot of gimmicks I simply wouldn't use. I liked my S3, but Verizon flat dorked it with their update to multi-window, and their fix isn't much better according to the S3 forums. They blamed me for downloading it basically, so I paid my ETF and left. Money didn't drive my choice to the One, MY wants drove me there. I'm not a fan of Touchwiz, so the first thing I did with S3 and would do with the S4 would be download Nova Prime, and reconfigure. I'm still using Sense 5 on the One, even with Nova installed and waiting. Nothing wrong with either phone, but the One is good for me...It just works...<-- Apple burn!

I couldn't agree with you more. I had the s4 and was very disappointed. I now very much after using both prefer the one. I live in Arizona, and every phone comparably sucks under direct sunlight so untill they make a screen/technological break through I think I will continue to compare things that matter most to me when buying a phone..

But, but...the benchmarks, man! :D

I owned both for a month. My take on the screens:

-They're both great screens. It's when I held them next to each other that I really preferred the One's. For several reasons:

-The whites were much, much whiter. I liked the deep blacks on the S4, but I much preferred the whites and overall colors on the One. The One's was also sharper, which I prefer. I liked the 5" size of the S4's, however.

-When talking about the screen, people always fail to mention the huge difference in brightness. With both set on auto, it's not an exaggeration to say that the One will be twice as bright as the S4. To me at least, that makes a significant difference in overall screen quality. It's very noticeable. I got used to the S4 after a little while, but this is a gap that needs to be addressed, especially when the One achieves similar or better screen on times while staying roughly twice as bright. Manually setting the S4 to the same brightness is easier thanks to the quick slider, but that will cause a noticeable drain in battery. It also worth noting that you can't even access the full brightness capability of the phone without something like Lux from the Play Store.

-Which brings me to my next point: The One is definitely easier to see in direct sunlight. I don't know what to say to anybody who says otherwise. Both were on auto and the One easily beat the S4 here. Also, Autobrightness is much better on the One. They both could stand to dim more in complete darkness, but the One's keeps the device much brighter, and is more aggressive, not to mention much smoother and subtle in its adjustment. Downloading an app like Lux off the play store gives a great auto to the S4 too, however. But again, keep in mind the battery life costs. It's understandable that Samsung maybe went with dimmer auto for battery savings, but again the One can achieve similar or better screen on times with its much brighter auto. I really like having that extra brightness.

-The low reflectivity helps, but doesn't tip the scale towards the S4 in the sun. The gorilla glass 3 does not contribute to lower reflectivity either; that's something that's in the works for Gorilla Glass 4, along with germophobic coating.

I had the privilege of extensively trying both. Really don't care what anyone else says now - having them both gave me a much better experience than review possibly could. Just trying to share my take on it.

i hve htc one and just amazing fully metel body o gap looks gorgous and speaker is so loud boom soud and it came with beats audio...and 299 feature of camera..just amazing

Keep the S4 dude!
The One's screen is perhaps slightly better under sunlight but there are lot of faulty One cameras, the polls in XDA showed that more than 65% of owners have purple/pink tint spot and/or blue or red noise in low light.
Add to that the metallic sharp borders very sexy but that are very prone to chip (so you need a damn double flip case)

This thread is old so he probably made his decision awhile ago. Some do have the camera issues you mentioned but the prone to chip isn't really true. I've had two HTC One phones (swapped carriers) and I have yet to chip either one.. Scratch.. Or anything... And I run naked.
