I have a Nexus 4, you have questions. Fire away.

What I find slightly suboptimal about my newly bought Nexus 4, is that it shows "missed calls" and "unread messages" only through a set of small icons in the top left corner of the screen. Is there a setting (or an app) to give me such notifications in slightly more wording in the middle of the screen? Thanks a lot in advance!

You can do this with Nova launcher with the unread counts activated. Or you can use widgets like Zooper widget or Uccw.

Hi All...

I just got my nexus 4 yesterday with stock android 4.2.2

It is not rooted

The in call speaker volume is very very low...

Also, the ring tone volume is very low..

Other than that I love my phone..

Please help..

I am interested in the Nexus 4, I have a couple of questions.

What installed apps are there, ie. ones I can't remove?

Any news of a LTE version?

Thanks.

There is no bloatware at all other than Google services. There is also no LTE version. Perhaps the Nexus 5 will have it. I am in Canada and the speed of our HSPA network is excellent. Pretty much like LTE.

Hi, I have an htc desire, been using it for 2 years, want to move my contacts to a shiny new nexus 4, its supposed to be easy I've been told but so far am feeling resigned to keying in the numbers as it seems it woudl be quicker even though there are about 300 of them.
I've tried syncing with googlemail and it just is not happening, it syncs that's about it in theat the little whirry thing goes round on the phone
I've tried moving my contacts to my googlemail account, then syncing, and no new contacts are appearing against my account
Every time I try to follow instructions people give me, there is something that doesn't match up in the instructions and I cant find what they are talking about eg something about IMAP / IPOP and making sure that is set before backing up to google mail ? Noy even convinced this will work
I've tried using bluetooth, this seems to create multiple copies of v cards which my phone imports , do I need to import all of them or are some duplicates, no idea, nothing to tell me. So far I've managed to import one contact that looks ok but for 2 phones that are supposed to be pretty sophisticated, this seems it will be a long slow process and maybe I just need to resign myself to it.
I've looked online and it seems people have varying issues with googlemail and there are things abotu people having to restore phones to factory settigns to get their syncing to work, which tbh scares me a bit as I'd rather not lose data on the htc if I need to move it across.

Can anyone help / advise / re assure me please
thanks :-)

- Google Mail, Contacts and Calendar are very stable and work extremely well with Android Phones.

- They move seamlessly between phones and you really don't have to do anything. AS LONG AS you have been saving your contacts on Google vice on the phone, on ATT or Samsung, or simply on the SIM Card.

- If you contacts are really in Google, then they will populate your new phone.
- Check you account settings, make sure you have logged in on the new phone with the same account and maybe restart/re-log on for good measure. After all that you will see your contacts pop in a few minutes your google calendar as well and finally your google email. . .the phone is built to do that.

- If all your contacts are on your sim card and you place that sim card into the Nexus, you will also have your contacts. (This may not work if you are using a CDMA / non sim card version)
If all your contacts were simply in the phone's local memory, or managed by another service (AT&T/Something else) then you do need to get those contacts into Google via an import (no need to retype them) and they WILL show up. . .

Try not to make this too complicated - your google email your google calendar entries and your google contacts will pop into your phone -unless you turn off syncing.

[It really does work -for example: when I switched from an HTC Aria to an Evo, all contacts "popped up" in the new phone when I logged in. When I later switched to a Motorola Atrix, the same and the same again when I switched to an S2 and finally now to my (new) S4 (i337).]

GOOD LUCK!

EDIT: One more recommendation since it really does sound to me like your contact have been kept on your phone and not on your G account. (The contacts might be on the sim -if you still use the old (same) sim, you should see them!) If you have a new sim, the phone company can move the contact from old sim to the new sim for free. [And that is my second suggestion --if you fiddle with this and it won't work for you -take it to your carrier's local store and the folks there will absolutely be able to move the contacts for you in minutes. ] I have seen another whose contacts were thought to be in Google, and in reality were only on the phone (actually -there were one or two contacts in Google, but the others -and he had about 30+, were only on his phone. . .). We were able to get them off the phone (maybe the sim) and onto his "real" google account without retyping them all.
You can get this done quickly too! :)

If you log in to your Gmail account on a desktop computer do you see the contacts attached to the account? Or is your contact list empty? If it is empty then you have been saving your contacts locally to your phone vs saving them to your Gmail account. I had this problem with my first phone. You need to save to the Gmail account when you create new contacts or else you lose the connection to Gmail as a backup.

If the contacts are only on your phone then you need to export them to your computer. I honestly can't remember how to do this. But I did it. Just do some googling. Once you have the file you can import it into your Gmail account and it will then be accessible to your new phone.

Hope this helps you.

OK so I just got the nexus 4 and the default browser is chrome. How do you save a video with chrome? On the default browser in the s3 you just click the video and it gave you the option to stream it or to download it but I cannot seem to do it with chrome and can't seem to download the s3 default browser.
TL:DR
How do I save videos to my phone from the internet with chrome?

I would need a link to see exactly what you mean. Normally if you hold down on the object it will give you options.

I got a Nexus 4 from Flipkart, India last month. Recently found out the following problems with the phone;
1. Frequent signal/call drop.
2. Most of the times, it doesn?t respond (neither ring or blink) to the incoming calls. There is no missed call alert for such calls.
3. Erratic behavior of battery. Sometimes full charged battery drains out with in few hours without any usage or active background application.

Is there any way to resolve the above issues?

What ROM are you running, or is it stock, buy new or used? Rooted, what errors do you get, if any? Your question is too vague.

Hey there,

I've got a problem with the instagarm App in my nexus 4 - ever since I've updated to the latest android 4.3 I've been having this weird green coloring on my pics when I'm using the brightness enhancement feature on the app... it has never happened to me before on this device so I'm truly clueless about fixing it (and I've already tried to remove the app and downloading it again)
Can someone please help me with that?

You might want to contact Instagram and let them know. They might need to update it for the 4.3 update.

Hi All,

First question on this forum. Can look stupid..so please bare...
as all of you must be aware that recent OTA update for 4.3 have created a mess for lots of Nexus 4 users, unfortunately i am one of them.
I have tried Hard Reset (in recover mode) etc but my phone is not going beyond the 'X' sign.

Now i dont have any option to flash a new factory image on my phone.I have tried this by visiting LG service center in India and they said that it is not accepting the image available with them.
So i am trying to follow the process given in
http://forums.androidcentral.com/nexus-4-rooting-roms-hacks/224861-guide-nexus-4-unlock-root.html

I have 1 doubt, in my phone USB debugging was not 'ON', i never touched that thing. So is it necessary to have it ON before i can proceed with these steps? If Yes, then how can i change it NOW??
Any workaround, any trick..will save my life here..thanks in advance...
